Good.

You have to stop thinking of them as 'offscreen retcons' and see them more as 'Time-travel with some extra allowances.'

Didn't we see Dave time travel for weeks around his kids session? Wait we also didn't, there was so much time travel done offscreen, and yet it it's still accepted.
It's equally acceptable that even Doomed-Timeline Dave's did a lot of time travel.
Why is so hard to swallow that John's Time Travel steps could've happened off screen or in another timeline? Especially when we see a John suddenly popping up in Caliborn's land, despite the lead-up being completely off screen.

John doesn't erase or replace other timelines.
All you need to understand about the way 'retcons' work is it allows him to jump between different timelines and make his count for him.

For instance he didn't affect the furthest ring at all. Both the pre and post-retcon Meteor journey happened in Paradox space independently of one another even before we saw the second instance. But John changed the events in the Troll Sburb session so that the latter would become of importance to the reader and that John. The other one either became, or always 'was' a Doomed timeline.
>>
>>84129664
>he didn't affect the furthest ring at all.
then explain Dave and Rose, who were retconned while they were in the furthest ring

>>
>>84129853
I just explained it. Both pre-retcon and post-retcon meteor trips happened independently of each other, neither was replaced or removed by John's actions. However affecting the Troll session made the latter prominent in John's journey so it could lead up to the point where John zaps back into his canon reality.

It's just your perception of the term 'Retcon' which is causing the confusion.
>>
>>84129955
>Both pre-retcon and post-retcon meteor trips happened independently of each other,
And both trips had a Dave and a Rose. So where did the second pair of Dave and Rose come from?
>>
>>84129976
A sburb session, obviously?
Abit a session in a different timeline started from a different timeline Earth.
Paradox, unlike Skaia houses the infinite potential of reality, but doesn't have the ability to separate them into their neat little lines apart and distinct from each other.

That's why when traveling beyond the furthest ring, you can meet your past or future self by accident without intending to.
>>
the green sun must be affected by retcons just like stuff in sessions. so there is one green sun that was always there but its removed by the retcon to make space for another green sun that was always there. homestuck ladies n gents
>>
>>84129953
probably to get people to stop coming up with homestuck corruptions so he doesn't have to keep adding things to his filter

>>
>>84130028
So Dave and Rose were duplicated from within an SBURB session. Which means they made separate journeys to the furthest ring (like the meteor), and made two different Green Suns?
>>
>>84130060
No there's only one green sun nitwit.
Retcons are just glorified time travel, they don't affect paradox space at all except from the vantage of the user of them.
>>
>>84130077
well they do, and theyve stayed mostly on topic for the last two and a half months as well as had a lot of new oc so they deserve to stick around as long as thats true
>>
>>84129439
>>84129519
Do Homestuck characters even have a race?
>>
>>84130103
Yes and No, it's likely made separate journeys with the same result, abit without creating separate suns.

This is where it'll get really confusing, the Green sun doesn't have a true origin point, as in a beginning or an end. So it's, within the realm of Paradox Space capable of being created in two instances despite their only being one singular instance of it. It has the same omniscient time-excluding properties of the 'Void' but with a physical presence.
>>
>>84130121
go and think about the implications of the other rules that appear to apply to retcons again and youll see that working out whether there are two green suns or not is a legitimate consideration.

sure sounds fuckin glitchy to me. sounds like they broke the fucking story.
>>
>why was it Dave forgoing pounding Jade's delicious brown snatch?

There's still the epilogue
>>
>>84130190
I don't think there can be two green suns, since it's a carte blank against the timeline keeping as a whole. It's like there being two "Voids", there's only one void, and yet paradoxically an infinite amount of it.

In the same essence there's an infinite number of Green Suns and yet only One. So rather than being two, or ten or a billion, the possibility just reaches infinity, until the Green Sun is absolute. Alternatively, Dave and Rose split off from the moment their bombs go off and they leave the Meteor Journey endless amounts of times but without the timelines as neatly kept.
>>
>>84130168
Your theory doesn't make any sense. We see BOTH the Green Sun's origin and its end.

Face it, the simplest explanation is that John's retcons affect the furthest ring. Only the dream bubbles are unaffected.

>We see BOTH the Green Sun's origin and its end.
Yes, this is the paradox of the Green sun and it's significance. Paradoxes don't make sense. It has an origin and destruction, and yet 'always was', somehow as the story makes clear.

My Over-Theory that I posted last thread, was that this paradox was breached and ripped even further by the fact that,
1)In the new Retconned reality John creates, Calliope rips apart the sun giving it an ending point
2)The Sun itself will be destroyed within the cycle of universes so this time Doc Scratch and Bec doesn't have an power source thus LE doesn't have an entry point
The paradox created here, is that the GS has a destruction, a clear end point but no origin or creation in this new reality. It has like a negative existence.
A paradox so powerful, that it was able to weaken LE at the precise moment the Juju was used. Whereas usually paradoxes manifest in doomed timelines, this one was significant enough that it depowered him completely.

That doesn't solve the Dave/Rose problem anyway. The retcon timeline, the timeline including Vriska, starts before the meteor reaches the Green Sun. Dave and Rose originally boarded the meteor without Vriska. A retcon at the Green Sun's locality would just result in another meteor with Dave and Rose but not Vriska.
>>
>>84130388
Oh! And
3)In the new reality neither universe was destroyed making LE's existence all together completely negated, thus the 8's. He became an unperson in one section of paradox space
Of course because of his immortality and indestructibility he wasn't erased, but it opened up a weakness, a glitch for others to exploit.

I don't give a damn about the ending. I'm angry about nearly the full second half of the comic completely sidelining most of the protagonists and the wondrous sense of ridiculous video game adventure in favor of ever-increasing amounts of teen drama and inanity.

Timelines don't exist in the Furthest Ring.
There is no 'before/after'.
Retcon timeline Rose/Dave exist in the same span of narrative space Pre-retcon do, even before they were introduced to us.

>A retcon at the Green Sun's locality
This isn't possible because there's no time, space, or agency within the furthest ring itself, outside it being localized to the players. Any retcons have to be done within a sburb session or things would go haywire and get really weird.

>>84130588
Sorry, I didn't read who you were replying to.
And they do but they don't. It's important to differentiate how differing time works in Sessions as opposed to the 'All-At-Once' nature of the furthest ring, so anything out there was already accounted for. They've retconned and 'affected' it before we're aware of it or the changes being natured in.

So you could say the retcons affect the furthest ring..paradoxically. They only offer a tautological repetition, not a real change.

Walk me through it. Explain it to me like I'm five. How did both meteors have a Dave and a Rose, each with the experience of creating the Green Sun, without retconning the creation of the Green Sun itself? One Dave and Rose met Vriska immediately after creating the Green Sun. The other Dave and Rose did not.

Okay dokay

Paradox is a magical space land where things don't make sense

In the center is a huge lime flavored snowcone! It's super-big

In this magical land things made can be remade for fun!

It doesn't make 2 things, since that thing is magical too

In fact there could be like infinity Snowcones made and there'd only be one snowcone, this really doesn't make much sense but it's magic remember?

Try to think of a magical time when it was snowing squirt. There was lots of snowy fields and white blankets, brrr! Lots of snow flakes fell... but even if a bajillion fell there was still only ONE snowy blanket!!!

How does that happen? It's just part of the magical nature of snow!

And in this magical land there are so many other yous! You might not meet them... even if they're right where you are!

This is confusing but the place is magic and doesn't make sense! A you can arrive after you leave and still stand where you are but before you even got there , you just have to accept it, like Santa claus! Cause we know he can visit every Chimney in the world right?

So when or who visits this magical land and adds more limey flashy bomby things to the Snowcone doesn't matter- it'll still be one pretty one for you to look at. Shouldn't there be more? Remember the snow field thingy, an infinite number of snowflakes still only makes on pretty white blanket.

The plothole is how the hell the Juju itself, or rather how retcons work since they violate how we understand causality itself.

The stuff with the furthest ring is still sound.
Have you read the comic carefully? It's called Paradox space for a reason, there are limited contradictions built in that we have to accept because the story tells us to.
>JADE: for example, the furthest ring is not in the suns domain
>JADE: it is more like the suns medium, allowing it to exist

>ROSE: That's because it's almost impossible to do so voluntarily.
>ROSE: If we were to head right now in the session's true physical direction, it wouldn't be long before we found ourselves traveling in just the opposite direction.
>ROSE: This is not even to speak of the chronological peculiarities. After traveling some distance, we could discover we were suddenly tailgating our own meteor from several days ago.
>ROSE: If we are particularly unfortunate, we might even collide in an intersection of spacetime with a meteor piloted by our future selves.
>ROSE: And if we looked closely at that meteor before impact, we might notice a very large dent in it, which it originally suffered during the very collision we were about to experience.

As for the Green Sun, it helps to think of it not as a physical object with a point of creation but a kernel or program run at a certain instance. Running that program in multiple won't jumpstart new programs once it's been initiated.
>>
>>84131234
Still implied. Plus in the early stages of the comic, no one really "flirted" with each other but ships were implied.

#Johnwasthecowboy
>>

You just have to accept it because the story tells you to. It'd been solidified in the story that "Paradox Space is wacky magic land without sense and you have to roll with it." It's like a bonus level in a videogame where they physics aren't properly programmed in so you can fall through bricks or gain an extra life by dying.

And I wasn't really trying to be funny? It's just difficult to simplify nonsensical concepts.

You're in for an absolutely fantastic, comedic, mind-bending game-themed adventure epic up through the end of Act 5, followed by a slow but consistent downhill slide in quality from that point forward.

Even knowing the issues with Act 6, and how it all ends, I'd still absolutely recommend reading. There's simply nothing out there like early Homestuck, especially in how it uses the internet as a medium for storytelling. Just stop if you stop having fun.

Rose's example is carefully tailored to preserve causality though. Notice the part about the dent. The point isn't that causality works differently, it's that you can time travel just by moving through space. Paradox space isn't magic, it's just difficult to navigate.

>not as a physical object with a point of creation
Dave and Rose literally have to follow a map to where the Green Sun is supposed to be created so that they can create it. This was a major plot point.

>It'd been solidified in the story that "Paradox Space is wacky magic land without sense and you have to roll with it."
1. No it hasn't
2. Even if you accept that premise, it just means that NONE of the theories are right. There are no rules. Paradox space is affected by retcons except when it isn't. It's not "retcons work with some caveats". It's "sometimes retcons work and sometimes they don't but there's no way to distinguish them".

>This was a major plot point.
I wish he'd shown us this. This is an odd plot point that later gets contradicted by what we learn about the Furthest Ring later.

VRISKA: This is what a map looks like in the furthest ring.
VRISKA: This is what ALL maps look like out here.
VRISKA: Turns out plotting the relative geographical features of an infinite 8lack expanse of pure void is every 8it as moronic as it sounds. 8ut that didn't stop some ancient eldritch chucklefuck from doing exactly that.
VRISKA: For the longest time, this is all we've had to go on when it came to deciphering the clues and figuring out the coordin8tes of the legendary treasure.
VRISKA: Do you have any idea how hard it is to pin down the physical location of something out here? Never mind the fact that physical location in the furthest ring is already a mallea8le concept. Just imagine what it's like giving someone directions! What do you tell them?
VRISKA: Proceed in a str8 line shaped like a perpetually shifting torus knot until you feel a sense of despair transcending all mortal comprehension, then hang a right at the next octopus?
VRISKA: There's nothing static out there. No landmarks, no points of reference. Nothing!

Vriska tells us there are no references and physical 'space' or locality within the FR are null. Yet Rose and Dave's mission from earlier seem to reject this ambiguity since they had to pilot it to a 'specific' location, a notion that the story later rejects as plausible.

>1)
It's a land with no sense of space, time, light (Agency) or proper direction, a void essentially. That's the way the comic has hinted it at.
Rose and Dave can take 3 years piloting a meteor, but Spades Slick can pop out of the furthest ring and find the kids session in a few hours. It's nonsensical to think of it in terms of time or space.

There are some rules, they're just complicated and a bit puzzling to figure out. Alt!Calliope gives one hints on how to understand, but I'll have to go back and re-read that part.

I interpreted it as a variation of that. It's not that "Paradox space is affected by retcons except when it isn't", but rather "Paradox space is affected by retcons except technically it hasn't because those retcon affects were already in play anyway because chronology is a clusterfuck here."

>It's "sometimes retcons work and sometimes they don't but there's no way to distinguish them".
Or perhaps "Sometimes retcons work except when they don't because I guess we never did them anyway or they would already be here present-wise."
The furthest ring accepts feedback stable loops but it kind of 'flattens' them without a time continuum to work off of.
>>
>>84131581
I just don't see any reason to buy in to your theory when it relies on such a nonsensical premise like that. Especially considering the exact nature or way in which paradox space is without sense isn't clearly established, that's rather the point of it being so hard to discern.

What makes this idea worth considering in your mind, in comparison to the more streamlined theories already present about the ending of the comic that include, John's retcon powers and how the Juju ties in with them in order to defeat LE?

My premise is only as absurd as what's been told in the story about the Furthest Ring and Paradox space. But I do agree that it's difficult to ascertain, I'm not saying it's 100% with what we know but it's plausible.

Even I cannot accept that a million Rose/Daves have made it to the Green Sun and re-created it or re-started it without feeling a bit of absurity at the notion. It's possible there divergence split somewhere after they left the Sun, but that seems even less likely with what we know.

>What makes this idea worth considering in your mind

The strengths are
>Doesn't depend on Meta-theory or Symbolism as much, the Retcon loops are sanctioned within Homestuck rules and don't surpass the Narrative as anything more than glorified time travel
>Bridges the 'Glitch' concept with what we know about Lord English better, how the glitch is a range of phenomenon and not a singular instance, supported by the start of the literal glitches around Gameover
>Ties together the entire ending more systematically and explains the purpose of various key players like LE's Terminal, The Green Sun, Alt!Calliope's actions, the puppet show, why the kids are able to enter the new universe safely and get a truly good ending
>It's a bit more optimistic about the finality of their victory and LE's defeat

But I'll admit it has a lot of weaknesses.
Primarily being the speculative nature of it's premises, and the details that are hard to work out like how Retcons that are only Upgraded Time Travel are able to contradict Sburb's rules with the Alpha. And most dubiously of all, there's a lack of conclusive proof how undoing a cylinder cycle of Universal Destruction+The Green Sun's creation+LE's origin would manifest as a "Weakness" or the glitch which denatured and depowered LE at the end.

>This describes retcons everywhere.
Yeah that's why it's extra mind-screwy to understand the tautology of retcons when applied to a place where space-time are already rendered invalid.

Try to think of it like a program that complied events A-to-Z over a a series of time. From our perspective, retcons can affect B or M and from the readers vantage we can see that play out.

This isn't so with the Furthest Ring because it's already accounted for unreality. Just as with the powers originally it doesn't displace events, but here they're not even given the benefit of a reference.

>The "creating Lord English" retcon has been "already in play" throughout the entire comic, at every location.
Just has the "Deconstructing Lord English" one has, it's a giant mobious strip with the centermost intersection the point of LE's defeat, which corresponds to the moment the Green Sun explodes and the Juju is re-activated.

If there are multiple Meteors flying through the air in paradox space's chasm, enough that they could crash course for a collision why is it implausible?

This isn't even my central thesis, it's just a defense of the explanation that Retcons, aren't meta-narrative powers but just more sophisticated Space/Time-Travel with more allowances. If they were meta-narrative it'd be only possible for one Dave or Rose to exist and the sun would only ever be created once, but this contradicts my theory because in the new 'cycle' reality, the Mobious-reach around where the kids create the troll universe and that ends up leading to the sun being re-created, is necessary for this theory.

If it was only created in one instance without the possibility of it being un-made the next time by way of stopping it, the theory is debunked.
>>
>>84132134
Well I suppose it's good to have a more mechanical theory about how the ending went down. I do also appreciate how much thought you've put into the theory as well. I just think that the prior theories about the ending are much more likely to be what Hussie wanted to convey, given the meta nature of Homestuck.

I mean, Hussie was literally a character in the story who narrated events and interacted with characters. If that doesn't scream 'meta' then I'm not sure what else does. As such, I'd imagine the ending to such an adventure would heavily stray towards that more meta explanation for wild elements, such as John's retcon powers, as opposed to there being fully thought out mechanics that always existed in the story due to the incredibly nonsensical understanding of one area in the comic where a lot of the action takes place.

Considering the guy didn't even fully elaborate on the mechanics of Sburb in the end, I just feel you're giving him way too much credit for in-universe explanations and mechanics.

My thesis is that the entirety of Homestuck which is a feedback loop, a mobius double-reacharound, is succeeded by the convergence of this loop via the 'glitch' which is John's retcon, but undoing the process of LE's creation itself. This doesn't erase him but is enough of a paradox that removing his origin opens the glitch up as a weakness to exploit and allows for finality in his defeat.

>I don't see why it is necessary for the furthest ring to be unaffected by retcons
It's not that they're not affected, they're just affected in a specific way.
You cannot do a retcon on the meteor and just erase/replace large swarths of causality for instance. All you can do is move one instance of perspective from another.

I used to argue that they were meta-fictional, but seeing as how Vriska and (Vriska) exist despite taking separate meteor rides I'm not convinced that all events still happen independently, without contradiction.

That's a deliberate misreading of Rose's example. She never said there were multiple meteors. She specifically said that it would be the same meteor, at different points on its timeline.

>Retcons, aren't meta-narrative powers but just more sophisticated Space/Time-Travel with more allowances. If they were meta-narrative it'd be only possible for one Dave or Rose to exist and the sun would only ever be created once
I don't see how the second statement follows from the first. We don't really have any reason to believe that the effects of time travel are "contained" to a given universe. We have every reason to believe that they can leak out into the furthest ring. There's no need to involve metatextual powers.

>the kids create the troll universe
It's vice versa, unless you're using "create" in a different sense here?

>If it was only created in one instance without the possibility of it being un-made the next time by way of stopping it, the theory is debunked.
In the "retcons affect the furthest ring" theory, that would imply separate instances, though. I feel like you have your reasoning reversed but I don't understand why.

I'm sure there's truth and some fault in all of them, including this one, truthfully it's hard to gauge what he meant without any feedback or confirmation. I just like this theory because it's the most optimistically charged possibility, and actually offers an explanation for LE's defeat.

It can be summarized as
>LE exists in a multiuniverse where he's so powerful he locks his existence in, but also locks the conditions for his existence in. This is his Achilles heel. He builds a Janga tower of causality waiting to slip apart any second
>Since John acquired retcon powers, he managed to create a timeline where the kids win and the same cycle starts. Because the conditions are just slightly different here, LE's tower cannot stand and he loses, his existence is made impossible.
It's a theory where the unbeatability of LE form the basis for his defeat, he set his loops too strict and now the slightest string pull undoes it all, which is why in AoE 7 we see it all tie together, his rise alongside his defeat.

But truthfully, yeah I don't think Hussie has thought of any of this or put in nearly as much thought as most theorizers have.

How can Andrew Hussie, circa 2009, and Andrew Hussie, circa 2012-2016, be the same person?

It's not as if he just woke up brain-dead one day. The parts of Act 6 where Spades Slick is the star are every bit as good as the Intermission, and you can tell the same author wrote both. His PXS comic, The Inaugural Death of Mister Seven, echoes the same assessment.

And yet, this man, this monster, also killed off Spades Slick without having him accomplish anything at all, for no logical reason, after his own self-insert resurrected him from his poetic death in Cascade.

The man who said that stories really work best when they have a satisfying ending authored the end of Homestuck. What is this creature? How does he share a headspace with the author of Acts 1-4?

>We don't really have any reason to believe that the effects of time travel are "contained" to a given universe.
We kinda do? The way time lines are set up, they exist within the Genesis Frog and Sburb alongside each other, but only contained to that instance. Kid time doesn't affect Troll time which doesn't affect Alpha or Caliborn time.

I mean I can believe they 'leak out', but so do the instances that 'make it', if that makes sense.
In light of this it might be easier to condense what I call 'Bottleneck thesis'.
It agrees more with your reasoning I think.
There may be multiple Roses and Daves, but only one makes it to the Green sun, and they exist within the Furthest Ring alone.

But than branch out again once they reach the new Session. However it begs the question, how is this possible? How do you go from one singular instance splintering out again to multiple timelines? I don't think this is that unsolvable. The Meteor is a flashdrive, the Sburb mechanisms are copy-machines so once Rose+Dave make it new timelines can start existing again.

>It's vice versa
Mobius Reach-Around.
The trolls initially create the kids session. The kids later go on to either create the Troll session in their victory, or a session that will.

> I feel like you have your reasoning reversed but I don't understand why.
That's generally how speculative reasoning operates.
You start from a concluded Premise and try to work out the mechanics and arguments that might support it and don't contradict. It's like being given the answer to a murder mystery but having to solve to find the clues that match the situation.

Page of Hope has a ridiculous learning curve, true. Maybe if he'd been more competent and pushed the story along by idk helping jane and roxy solve traps over pesterchum or using his adventuring expertise/something hinting at how he became a billionaire or something. He just didn't show enough agency. Maybe if he'd gone to Aranea and asked her to just fix him -> Game Over? or helped Roxy make the Matriorb, since we know he can make things like Brain Ghost Dirk and his katana real or maybe pushed back against Dirk instead of retreating, which would make their dynamic more interesting (does Dirk try harder to control him? does he realize he fucked up? Does he think this makes Jake hotter? Why does Dirk want Jake, plush rump aside?) or fucked with Dirk and Caliborn's interactions in some way or tried to use his alpha-johnlikeness to appeal to Condy and gotten himself chained up in boyshorts (and passing info on to roxy or something) or something, anything

Well of course, but I'm warming up to this theory being discussed somewhat as it explains LE's defeat without relying on the green sun's destruction and subsequent black hole + the kids coming back from the Juju to fight LE. It just never sat right that LE would lose even without first guardian powers and against more experienced kid opponents. The guy was invincible due to the clockwork magiks, when does that stop applying? The clock smashing seemed to be a separate event from the Juju, so why does the Juju affect those magiks?
>>

>Homestuck loop depended on John's retcon powers to be completed,
Yes, thus why I think the Alpha timeline is where they go fight Caliborn. Since he has control of it masterfully, he creates his own 'bad end' by trapping the kids but ensuring he can exist in the void.

> but once this loop was completed the glitchy nature of the retcon powers this loop was based on lead to LE's creation being unstable, thus his downfall was already in motion as soon as the loop begun?
Sorrrta. He didn't account for the flexibility and freedom allotted by the retcons. It did serve as part of his loop structure, but there was a bit too much poking out to be secure. A doomed timeline John with these powers (Gameover) was able to pluck it apart enough to shotgun past that shit.

>Or perhaps intentionally undone by John's influence once the loop had completed given the loop and LE's injected presence in the loop didn't fully account for the autonomous action John could take with the powers once he'd played his part?
This.
It makes sense to be me that a master of intuition and the alpha couldn't see the danger in other dangling agents, like a roaming Beta John. He was too focused on the big picture and didn't see the 'god between the gaps' which when left free could destroy him.

In the universe/Troll universe cycles following the kids winning the game, the Green Sun is destroyed and as such, Bec/Scratch doesn't work, LE doesn't get summoned, the chain falls apart. It doesn't erase LE because he's ALREADY HERE, but much like the stitches in his labcoat, is a weakness, a glitch to exploit.

>How can Andrew Hussie, circa 2009, and Andrew Hussie, circa 2012-2016, be the same person?

A no doubt exhausting and highly distracting legal battle over a debacle of a video game, for which he'd planned for a separate studio to do most of the work.

Regardless of the Kickstarter issues, Act 6 probably still would've been a mess thanks to the ever-increasing focus on trolls and teen romance drama, but certainly the latter half of the comic suffered far more than it would have had it commanded Hussie's full attention.

That said, I'm legitimately excited to see Hussie finish up Hiveswap and start on something fresh. He's still a fantastic writer; he just let his story expand beyond a point where even he could manage it. The chance to come at something creatively fresh with a blank slate will do him some good.
>>

>There may be multiple Roses and Daves, but only one makes it to the Green sun, and they exist within the Furthest Ring alone.
This is just getting more confusing, man.

Only one strilonde pair makes it to the green sun -> they create the green sun -> Game Over Meteor appears -> strilondes board it -> they don't meet vriska

Then john does a retcon and creates the Retcon Meteor. The origin of the Retcon Meteor is in the trolls' session.

At this point, does the Game Over Meteor still exist in paradox space, complete with Dave and Rose? You mentioned earlier that furthest ring retcons must be "already in progress" from the perspective of paradox space, so does that mean the Game Over Meteor never existed?

>Since he has control of it masterfully, he creates his own 'bad end' by trapping the kids but ensuring he can exist in the void.
So are you saying LE actually escapes into the void to carry on his whole injection into existence deal; but the kids get a good end and he's out of their session? Despite technically still being in it because down the line they have to connect the loop to the troll's universe even if they don't directly oversee that event happening, it's just something that happens from a session in their new universe?

I'm really starting to like this theory, it'd do well to have it noted down somewhere so you can bring it up at another time with more people about to discuss it, given there's some weaknesses that the collective could help explore in greater detail. Though, again, Hussie almost assuredly didn't think through anything like this is, this is entirely a more favourable reading into things.

Proceeding under the assumption that every character will still have a patron troll, and that the patron trolls must all be relevant in some way:

>Karkat
>Vriska
>Terezi
>Kanaya

Karkat has too much comedic potential to pass up, as well as potential for a decent character arc. Vriska has a nice dynamic with John, and you need villainous potential for at least one troll still. Terezi complements Vriska well while also having potential to move the story along, and Kanaya is the best patron for Rose, I do think. You could give her Feferi or a significantly altered Aradia, but I don't see them working as well.

Keep these four, have them mostly on the sidelines as they are in the early acts, followed by Vriska wreaking havoc more or less as she does pre-Scratch in canon, then the rest of the trolls helping the kids do damage control for the remainder of the story, and it'd work well enough.
>>
>>84133018
Keep all the trolls, but only have Karkat, Terezi, Vriska (until she dies), Tavros and maybe Kanaya as lesser main character, the rest of the trolls are purely supporting secondary characters meant to either develop the main trolls, main characters or the plot in some way.
