Most writers just stick to the "sword and teleport" because that's what is most utility about her. During the OG New Mutants, she was easily the most powerful of them all and constantly teleported them out of danger - but since she was raised by a demon her lack of sanity fucked them all over. That's the trade off that made her an interesting character.
Now that she's not half-crazy anymore, she's just an OP Mary Sue if need be - or the writers just conveniently forget her skillsets.
