I was recently talking with a friend of mine, who's a seasoned shrink, about our favorite stories
At one point I mentioned Homestuck. The comic in general, and then the hiatuses, Hussie's audience-trolling habit, his fanbase involvement and the complete radio silence he fell into, and especially what he pulled off with the epilogue ("Oh, maybe stay tuned! I might finish this later! Some day!").
Eventually she concluded that Hussie was probably a narcissist. Ending your story abruptly and then promising explanations "eventually" struck her as a way to make the fanbase dependent.
After that I mentioned Vriska's overall character and the way she hijacked the story, she was like "welp, no surprise here".
Now of course narcissism isn't /voluntary/, it can be accidental. But it would actually explain Hussie's actions, judging by the way he likes toying with people and his "ironic" internet meanie persona.

Think of any "Stock Alpha Bitch" character on any given cartoon. She's annoying, but no one likes her, so it balances out.
Then she starts getting more screentime, and her bitchiness crosses over into straight on psycopathic moves. She straight up abuses several characters, even the resident woobie of the show.
Then suddenly she gets chummy with the main character, and you think that she might be getting a redemption arc. Nope, she kills the woobie and dies in a big overblown death scene. And you're thinking, "well that sucked but at least she's dead now".
Nope, through some long stupid sequence of events she's back, still abusing the woobie in the afterlife, and being awful, even inspiring awfulness in other people. Eventually she starts chilling out, and you think, "wow, maybe she's finally going to be a good character"

Seemingly the whole point with Vriska is that she tried so hard to be the most important character, continually TRYING to be the main character, but only continually fucked up shit in the process of trying to do this. Her being the main character was seemingly not her fate at all.
Even Aranea eventually followed Vriska's footsteps and paid the price for it like Pre-retcon Vriska did. This was seemingly the fate of the Serkets, to forever be the side characters no matter how much they fight against it.
But then the fucking retcon happened and all of sudden it's revealed that Vriska was the KEY to everything. She somehow gets shit together without it failing apart. Literally everything goes to plan, and what we're told is that Vriska is the true savior of everyone, just as she originally intended when she wanted to fight Bec Noir.
It's like Hussie just decided to say fuck it and make Vriska into a total mary sue.

Her pre-retcon arc was so perfect, with her realizing that in the end, she couldn't fix everything by acting like the biggest and baddest bitch in the building.
