It's reaching for any actual meaning outside of a coincidence or the shared design features for backgrounds. It probably doesn't mean that much considering Daron appears not to really know about the official Star Vs. games, but in one of them (Star vs. the Dungeon of Evil I think it's called; it's on youtube), that pattern on the St. O's floor also appears randomly in the end cutscene of the game, where it's used as a dance floor by the characters.
Might mean nothing, but those cutscenes were actually drawn by Evon Freeman, who worked on the show in the first season, made all the official posters, and is a storyboard artist on it now. Its appearance there could be reinforcing "hey this is gonna come up again"

Honestly? If you're not a fan of the physical and verbal comedy it's going for then you're unlikely to change your mind. I think you should give it a chance, see how you do with the next couple of episodes, School Spirit caputres a lot of the good aspects of the comedy in the show from both Marco and Star, teamed with the use of interesting magic from Star.
If you managed to sit through early Steven Universe you can sit through the early episodes here, the first 3-4 episodes are weaker the majority following.

I imagine she has, it's hard not to give names to characters in what is effectively your first big project. Perhaps down the line there will be a book of some sort with the full names outlined, I wouldn't be too surprised if they came out with something like that eventually, Star vs. is begging for merchandise.
As for who we may hear more about, perhaps Janna, Tom, Alfonso and Ferguson given they're likely to be the most influential secondary characters going forward. I'd also like to think that Sabrina or Starfan will be given full names, given that Daron provides the voices for them both if I recall correctly. Toffee and Miss Heinous will likely get a full reveal, especially Heinous given her Mewman cheek marks.

When the hiatus threads were more active we actually had a lot of content creators all at once, the show's simple style really works for fan art. I think we're just at that stage where we have next to nothing to sustain the threads, realistically we've needed a trailer or two to give something to ignite interest. However, we've not had that and other prominent shows are in hiatus too, reducing the overall posters on /co/ so they don't pop in here when the discussion in another thread shorts out. I suppose that could be a rather interesting character story to watch. Problem is it wouldn't really fit in with the show's structure, given that commited character arcs are a no go for episodes that work independently. That being said, perhaps he'll be a more common secondary character than we're expecting, allowing for character development akin to Star or Marco.
You're right in that Tom and Janna could be interesting together, two trouble makers together causing mischief. However, I much prefer relationships to actually function, and those two together would be god awful for each other, likely right of the bat when their mischief goes wrong. Could make that into an episode now that I think about it, but it's much more likely that he'll seek to change through Star or Marco in light of their eventful last meeting.

It's one of my biggest desires for the series to see Marco and Star progress in their own ways, and I think karate would be a big one for Marco. Honestly, he seems adept at the physical side of things, he fights way better than a green belt should be able to. I like the idea that it's the practice and spiritual teaching side of the martial art that he struggles with, which you can see in his interactions with Jeremy and the coal bed scene.
Perhaps, given Star's cleaved wand, they'll explore the fighting dynamic a bit more if Star is downpowered a bit. She's likely to rely more on Marco when she wants to do her big magical spells, or have to use her hand to hand skills like in Marco Grows a Beard.

Well that's exceedingly unlikely to ever happen, and rightly so.
Marco is a human, we're naturally limited. Star on the other hand is an alien, she has much greater capabilities given the lack of limitations imposed on her yet. Add on to that her training since a young age and her wand and she should be much stronger than Marco, which is fine.
It's a hard balance, do you keep Marco grounded so the audience can connect with him easier? Or do you give him powerups to better line up with Star, but detracting from the relative realism of the show. Personally? I don't mind what way they go, I'd love to see Marco getting some magical relic to help him along, but I can accept him just getting better at martial arts and embracing a supporting role.

I would imagine there's direct quotes out there from them both detailing their intentions with either series. Either way, Gravity Falls was always supposed to have a more lore focused side to it, in addition to the presence of mysteries being tied into and out of the show.
Star vs on the other hand isn't trying for that more serious underlying lore motif, the focus has always been on the comedy and cute adventures of Star.

Even in the whole HFY scenario it's well established that humans have limitations at a basic level, but overcome that through numbers, determination and flat out stubborness on a grand scale. Actually, outside of her having a magical WMD in her hands, Star hasn't really shown any super human traits. Yeah, she get beat up a lot, but Marco gets knocked around at least as often and is back in the game next episode.
If anything, I'd rate Humans and Mewmans as top-tier in terms of physical attributes, considering both Star and Marco kick monster ass all the time with minimal consequences. And Marco's a pubescent karate greenie with a black strip, imagine what a full grown man trained in krav maga could do.

She seems more durable than Marco, she's been shown to take bigger hits better than Marco in episodes like Storm the Castle and Lobster Claws if I recall correctly. She's more confident at dealing with the monsters solo, even without her wand given her performance in Marco Grows a Beard. Marco doesn't do well when he's the lone threat which has been shown in a couple of instances too.
Honestly, I think they're just up against rather weak opposition. I think the show does a good job of portraying the importance of technique and combat experience over flat out brawn, which seems to be what allows Marco and Star to get away with what they do. That and Marco fights at a much higher level than a green belt, that we can all agree.
Still, I would love to see the skill ceiling on humans and monsters alike.

Honestly, in a way, I hope Star doesn't become the next Gravity Falls. I certainly wouldn't mind hints and such because it's a way to keep discussion and interest going, but it shouldn't force precedence over the show.
The thing about Star's strengths as a show is that it relies more on antics and character development. Lore based episodes are more on the side. While I could see them expanding on lore episodes in a healthy way, I certainly hope they aren't losing vision of what made the show good by trying to make it way more high-stakes than necessary. But if they can make it work, then by all means I'll welcome it. That's an "if" I have no way of relying on at the moment though.
Knowing Disney though hopefully this stays as another one of those "did you notice this" kind of marathons, like they did that one time with Phineas and Ferb by replacing certain background objects with something else instead of turning it into full blown Mystery Shack.
