Eh, I'd disagree. It's not the relative age difference that matters, it's that Dipper and Mabel are still kids, and their brains are still developing. According to the most vocal, loud anti-shippers it doesn't matter if you age the characters up. They could be 90-year-olds in the art/story and it's still pedophilia.
Also, any kind of incest is child sexual abuse, even if the two characters shipped are adults IN CANON. This is used regularly against Stancest, Elsanna, and lots of other pairings. Even if the characters are old and never shown as children, if you ship it, you're a pedophile.
In fact, aged-up Paddipica and Mabifica are also pedophilia according to, yes, real tumblr posts I've seen. The rationale seems to be that you wouldn't ship the kid characters at all, even with other kids, if you weren't a pedophile.
Basically, there's no way to win with them.

You mostly see it if you search some of the pairing tags. I actually heard about the drama before I actually saw Gravity Falls or Steven Universe. I think I expected them to be edgy grimdark cartoons because of it, obviously they're not.

The drama got so bad that there was a big dustup over Steven Universe fan art. One of the Steven Universe creators and Alex got involved. I remember seeing ones a post on tumblr/here about the moment where Ford calls Dipper to come quickly in D&MvsTF, and it ends up being just Ford """manipulated""" Dipper (as being said by the person) into hurrying up and obliging. They made it sound like Ford is in a position of a bad person, forcing Dipper to do things by messing with his empathy.
Characters are meant to be flawed, Ford was intended to be a sociopath and an egocentric man. He is so to reflect contrast on the more straight forward Stanley that is ironically more truthful and more emotionally captive than what his brother is. So to me it was not about Ford "manipulating" anyone as the person claimed. Ford would've acted the same even if it was not for Dipper. It is to show Ford is a crazed looney.
The problem is when people take such characters and attach such meanings to them, projecting their fears and troubles to insignificant things. "Manipulation" and "abuse" was mostly relevant to specific characters, like Bill and Ford (manipulation) and Pacifica and her parents (Abuse).
In short, in my opinion, Billdip is not 'abusive', unless the writer/artist wants so. Same goes with Billford and Mabifica or Dipcifica etc... And as for pedophilia in these contexts, it's non existent unless the material is explicitly and directly shows that. I am not a big fan of Child!dipper and Bill things either... But calling aged up Dipper and Bill pedophilia is absurd to me.

Yeah, he did, but my point was is that it was necessary, and that people took it to completely different levels. Ford /is/ a dangerous guy, but only because he has no regards to others well beings. Manipulating Dipper at this moment is essentially harmless. People made more noise about this scene then the one where he proposes him apprenticeship. I think this one is my favorite scene in the show because it has so many writing qualities I could spot, like Dipper's insecurity reflecting visually in the alien spaceship as Ford's image distorts to be bigger and stronger. Also how Ford is basically mimicking, perhaps unknowingly what Bill did to him, projecting everything he feels and carried from his past into Dipper. This part was actually Ford manipulating someone. In one interview Justin Roiland pointed out this issue. He simply said his show is his art and just because he makes it doesn't mean the opinions or events happening in the show are reflecting his own opinions or what he believes in to be ideal. Also, on the topic of pokemon, I'd kill for an episode about a Monstermon card game tournament. We see that Candy is very interested in Monstermons in the DS game. Dipper and Candy could have a rivalry. Grenda is Candy's couch/cheerleader and Mabel is Dipper's couch/cheerleader. Perhaps Mabel and Dipper find some supernatural way to cheat, and have to decide if it's right to be dishonest like that. I just dislike it when people do not put a border between reality and fantasy and treat things such as stories or shows with the same light as they'd treat actual, real issues or accidents. I don't understand why people find it modernized and more cultured to force 'trigger warnings' and push 'social righteousness' into every single existing thing in the media. With regards to tumblr's culture, over there there's an argument that things should come with 'trigger warnings', and I feel that that's a concept that a lot of people over here misunderstand, because it's not a bad idea at its core. The basis of it is that if you are going to post questionable content, like rape, or sexual content involving a child, you should tag it '#noncon' or '#underage'. There's a thing called 'X-kit' on tumblr, and one of the features is a blacklist. You add a word to the blacklist, and then X-kit hides or removes posts containing that word or hashtag. Using this, if everyone tags their questionable posts appropriately, a person who doesn't want to see rape or loli/shota can simply blacklist the appropriate hashtags, and enjoy using tumblr without having to look at content that could 'trigger' them. Personally, I think that this system makes a fuckton of sense. People who are actually rape victims and have PTSD don't have to look at content that could bring up memories of their abuse, and people who are simply uncomfortable with rape don't have to look at it. I find it repetitive and grating. But then again, I am watching a kid's cartoon, so I suppose I should just take it in stride.
I'm mostly just disappointed about all the what ifs that could have happened if we had gotten a season 3. This lead me to thinking about what could have been cut out in seasons 1 or 2 to make room for all the things that I was looking forward to that don't seem likely to happen in the finale, and the repetitive romance plots was the first thing that jumped out at me as mediocre and disposable.
You're right, though, even the romance plots that I feel are total bullshit have some A+ humor in them. Love God was terrible, but 'IHeart Kids' still makes me chuckle.
It's kind of a testament to how well done the show that even the things that I dislike really aren't all that terrible, just not up to the standard of 'super good' that the show has made me come to expect.

Not much, to be honest, I think the Mabel hate train is more of a stupid meme than anything, albeit with some legitimate criticisms sprinkled in.
I'd like to see Mabel have more agency than having to be talked out of the bubble by Dipper. She needs to confront for herself that she cannot stay in stasis forever just because she's happy where she is, and that having your every whim fulfilled is not realistic, without being prodded by Dipper.
As for what I'd like to see happen in the finale, I think that she should make some sacrifice for Dipper, because the power of sibling love, etc, without being basically guilt-tripped into it by Bill. It would be meaningful, and show that she loves Dipper as much as he loves her, despite the fact that she can sometimes be a bit cruel in the teasing department.

I think the real problem with Wendip is that a lot of fans were looking at the subplot in the wrong light. Some of that can be attributed to iffy writing, but mostly, it says more about the unrealistic expectations of certain fans.
It was easy to read the subplot as a "will they or won't they" sort of ship-tease, where the writers were toying with the audience on whether they'd get together. Naturally, that sort of soap opera-like baiting gets tiresome after a while. You just want the characters to either fuck, or get over it. It really is pointless.
The thing is, though, we were never meant to believe Dipper had a chance with Wendy. Alex's intention was always to show it as a hopeless puppy crush on the babysitter. It's borne out in everything from their character designs (Dipper is literally half her size) to Wendy's seeming obliviousness to Dipper's intentions (she doesn't even see him as a prospect). That sort of pairing is common enough in wish fulfillment-y manga and anime geared towards pandering to teen boys, but that's not the kind of story Alex set out to tell.
But it wasn't necessarily a dead end sub-plot just because Dipper was doomed to fail from the beginning. Along the way, it showed us a lot about Dipper's problem solving abilities, morality, and personal priorities. And from season 1 to season 2, Dipper's attitude has matured thanks to his experiences, as was highlighted in his speech to Gideon.
I'd go so far as to argue that Wendip is one of the few subplot that actually had decent payoff from start to finish. Certainly more so than Mabel's romances, which never really prompted her to grow as a person. And we got a lot of great episodes out of it. Double Dipper, TTP, and Into the Bunker are some of my favourites.
