How do I get into the voice acting industry?
>>
DON'T
>>
>>77766641
practice

no, not "oh maybe one or twice a day"

no, you have to be fucking dedicated to it, you really have to be fucking dedicated to it. devout your life to it
>>
>>77766674
ok yeah, but what about the "industry" part?
>>
read "who ate the last fudge brownie, that was meant for mr.roofus"
in
a hero voice
an evil voice
an ethnic accent of your choosing
as a black man
like you are frightened
in a silly cartoon voice

post results. will report back if you have what it takes
>>
>>77766641
Play a character with a weird accent in a dnd campaign.
>>
>>77766641
knowing a guy or gal is about 90% other than that look for casting calls. Go to any and all you find.
>>
>>77766674
>>77766687
>>77766699
>>77766701
All the above, and you will still just be background voice number three for about 3 years
>>
>>77766641
Learn to sing.
>>
>>77766701
are casting calls a showbiz town centric thing? Like would I have to live in LA? Or is there an internet resource to find/respond to them?
>>
>>77766731
and if a popular voice actor/actress dislikes something about you, you will never find work again
>>
>>77766641
I'd rather just see more funny classic dinosaur pictures.
>>
Consider small gigs on Elance.
>>
>>77766745
Casting calls are everywhere you just got to look, the internet will help with that, just get it out of your head that you'll be an overnight sensation. The posibility of travel is good though I doubt Hollywood is the it place any big city should be good.

Heck thinking about it I can say there are two places hiring actors and a broadcast company looking for voices in my small city alone.
>>
>>77767144
I'm a stand-up comic, so I'm not unfamiliar with the idea of extremely delayed career gratification.

should I just look on craigslist or are there better websites?
>>
>>77766745
You don't HAVE to live in LA, but it's recommended. You won't make much money if you don't.

Go to LA, take some classes, meet people, learn from people who are doing it.

Build a demo reel and a website. And spare no expense on either. A demo reel should cost you at least $500-$600. Get a pro to help you build your website and demo reel, get an agent, and go to casting calls.
>>
People tend to over emphasis the voice part and forget about the acting part. It doesn't mean jack if you can make weird voices and can't at least sorta act.
>>
Try to become a singer.
Fail.
Become a Voice Actor.

That seems to be what everyone else did.

That or become a real actor.
Succeed.
Then phone it in when people want you to be in their movie for press.

Move to california. every interview ive ever head from a voice actor they allways say they had to move to California to get Consistent voice acting gigs.
>>
>>77768057
>not already living in California

People do this?
>>
>>77766772
wait really? How?
>>
>>77766641
voice act, even if it's just crappy youtube stuff. build a portfolio. set up a blog where you'll voice act any line or scene for four bucks. become a notorious meme. Network. Let it be known that you're interested in working on more serious projects.
In the mean time take both acting and singing lessons to expand your vocal skills as much as possible, and get increasingly better microphones. Might also be worth egg-cartoning your walls to soundproof them.
>>
>>77768082
Word gets around. Especially considering how small the community is. Social connections are very important.
>>
California is the best place for voice acting. Lots of cartoons, video game, anime, etc are done in studios there.

Number one rule of voice acting, learn to act. You don't have to do a funny voice or be able to do a million voices to be a voice actor. You have to be a convincing actor with your voice.
>>
>>77766641
Don't do what the yellow dinosaur is doing.
>>
>>77766641

Get pictures of a producer in bed with a dead girl, or a live boy.
>>
>>77768881

Do what the green dinosaur is doing instead, he'll make it
>>
>>77766641
Make a demo reel of what you can do with your voice about 30 secs to a minute, go to websites that are looking for voice acting talent. Look for auditions and audition. Climb the later, meaning keep doing shit till you get noticed. It's a long process.
>>
Another thing to note that I'm not seeing is equipment.

You need top notch equipment and a good space for you to do your voice acting in.

Learn how to edit to.

My brother does books on tape which helps him build a portfolio.

Got some real interesting requests too (one was an extremely violent (and sexual) sci-fi story which he later found out was written by the guy who was the head writer for barney for 15 years)

>>77768126
Wouldn't worry about that too much. they're all pretty chill people and you'd have to do something completely heinous to get shunned.
>>
>>77766641
You do a whole bunch of little work for free, do some side projects, get your name out there, then when people know you well enough, you get into a part that people will remember you for.

It's all about getting to know people. That and doing alot of work for little pay.

I'd recommend having a side gig kid.

Also, have at least 50 on cue voices that you can pronounce at least 1000 words with, 20 of them also need to be singing ones.

Won't tell you who I am, but you can trust me.

If you want to be taken seriously in that world, you gotta have chutzpah and charisma kid.

nostalgic bomb

those books thought me that Oviraptor were bad ass, T-Rex were kinda retarded, Velociraptor were manlets, Triceratops could wreck your shit, and so many more useful things, like the meaning of coprolite, and the appreciation of 3D pictures of toys in dramatic poses

Of course the biggest and most important lesson was that Parasaurolophus was the best dino ever to walk on Earth

I don't mind feathers, but some of these artists get too fucking bonkers with it. Just making T-rexes look like god damn owls or giving them waddles like fucking turkeys.

Feathers are okay

Problem is that "SCHIENTHISTH" guys usually are annoying and can not ever shut up and bitch about how everything is wrong, pretending they are 100% sure of everything they say all the time

In short, the fedora-dino-nerd fusion

first you get into theatre acting, or radio hosting, then you fail at that (or alternatively get into standup comedy and succeed) and then use that background to get into live acting auditions and get a bunch of unnamed extra roles in shows no one cares about. Or as is more common in these modern time, unnamed extras in videogames or no one cares about. Make sure to brush up on all your overly specific impersonations and outdated stereotypes that no one will ever ask you to do professionally to bulk out your portfolio. Then you'll be primed and poised to join the ranks of redundant shallow talent that is voice acting.

Alternatively you get do a lot of probono work for youtube projects like shitty parodies and comedy and pretend that'll get you somewhere. (it won't)

I'm not sure it's possible. I keep seeing the same 15 to 20 names in everything. Much like comics, its an industry that has an aversion to talking in new talent. Why get some new chick when you can just hire Tara Strong?
