The way I see it, original timeline Barry had both his parents and still became the Flash. When Eobard killed Barry's mom, that resulted in Barry somehow never becoming the Flash I guess? So the Speed Force is never created, and Thawne has no speed, forcing Eobard to take Wells' identity and MAKE Barry become the Flash so the Speed Force can be created and Thawne can go home. I guess???
