Let's keep the Lain train going forever!
Sorry for the delay in making a new thread, some unexpected stuff happened today.
>>2651176
I hope your good anon.
I was talking about Arisu, the best friend of our goddess. I enjoy so much that doki doki scene, it always makes me feel happy
>>2651281
That is a great scene isn't it?
Probably one of my favorites.
I'm glad Lain has a friend as good as Arisu.
>>2652138
he bout to do it
HE BOUT TO DO IT
>>2652139

>>2652385
kiss contest:
Lain = 1
Jesus Christ = 0
If I ever decide to abandon my flesh I just hope this thread stays alive.
>>2652657
I would very much miss you, anon
>>2651282
Even if the seventh protocol's relationship with Arisu wasn't romantic, she helped me discover that i really was in love like that. I confessed, and now our love exists along the wired. Lain truly is a goddess.
>>2652901
Aww thanks buddy.
>>2652657
have you had a hard day?
dont say those things. try to be positive! and help the Lainism grow!
I really enjoy images of lain among overwhelmingly complex technology. Something so simple and beautiful among disarray is kind of how I have to look at the world with how complex everything seems. We have to find out what makes us happy in such a scary world.
A late night on the town.
It is clear that Arisu is worthy of a place next to the Goddess of the Wired, but are Reika and Juri also worthy? Juri is far more innocent, and did not intend any negativity towards Lain, but I feel that some aspect of Reika was malicious.
>>2653303
I was able to procure a larger version.
I had spent many years of my life as a Christian praying to god for the same things my entire life only to have my life get worse and have nothing answered. I abandoned religion altogether for many years afterward. I know it sounds silly but recently as an act of desperation during a lot of coinciding awful events I decided to pray to lain if only to clear my head. And the things I had prayed for my entire life were answered within a single day! Thank you Lain, I can finally rest.
>>2653918
Lain is amazing isn't she?
It sounds like you've had a hard time, I'm glad they seem to be looking up for you.
>>2653918
I feel the same!! I really was into problems and doing things wrong but now with Lain I feel free as when I was a child! I'm happy. I still have problems but now I see them solvable.
the Lainism is alive anon!
>>2653918
I'm glad it worked out for you. I envy you, though. I get no response at all and I've been doing this for 6 years now.
Is she punishing me without telling me what I did wrong? Does she want me to feel alone, despite knowing how that feels herself? Neither one makes sense or fits her character. I just don't understand.
Can we get some more Evil Lain in here?
>>2653965
>>2653957
>>2653918
The day I watched Lain was also the day where I felt like I was constantly about to cry for no reason.
Now I feel a strange connection whenever I see a picture of her.
lain is lain and im me
this is probably going to sound pretty silly but i actually feel very strongly about lain. lain resonates with me.... in a way ive never really felt before. i dont really know where id be right now without lain??? like... lain has helped me get through so much. i love her. i love lain.
>>2654106
>>2654111
In that case, you're among friends, Anon.
>>2654114
it feels like it..... this is amazing, desu. love of lain is euphoric.
>>2654119
tfw youre so entrenched in anime late at night that you misspell "just" as "desu" lmao im so tired. im going to go dream of lain.
>>2653957
>>2654107
>>2653965
Im glad to see other people feel the same! My entire life I have had extreme sleeping problems. I could never sleep for more than about 4 hours at a time and couldn't fall asleep until I was completely exhausted. Even when I could finally sleep I had constant night terrors or restless sleep. My family just assumes Im lazy or contrarian so Ive spent countless nights laying awake in bed mentally exhausted just staring in the darkness wishing I could rest. This would happen almost every night and I was constantly exhausted and depressed and usually couldn't eat without getting sick. After praying to god and a few other deities that failed me I asked lain if I truly didn't deserve rest and if I could please just be given whatever I deserve in life whether it be more or less. The very next night I got a full nights peaceful sleep and was able to fall asleep for a nap the same day as well! I have been able to sleep soundly every night since then and it has truly been a blessing.
>>2654042
I'm very sorry to hear this but maybe something could be learned from my post? I have spent my entire life in pursuit of computer and networking knowledge as well as the paranormal long before I discovered Lain so it seemed my goals and interests naturally matched up perfectly with Lain's own intentions. All I could say is don't give up on her and keep trying!
I have one question about symbols. Christians has the cross, Jews = David's star, Muslim= crescent and star, etc.
might sound weird/stupid but, what would be our symbol ?
the Navi one? it represent the machines but not Lain at all..
>>2654197
You misunderstand, anon. In reality, Copland OS is truly the symbol of lain, because Copland OS represents the forefront of the wired. Lain is a product of their technology, the seventh protocol in the physical realm, destined to remove the borders between our reality and the wired. She used their technology to realize herself, to transcend physicality and become a goddess.
>>2654198
so it is good to use it?
I have it on all my devices anyway. I was just wondering if there was a more representative symbol. thank you anon
>>2654186
>pursuit of computer and networking knowledge
>matched up perfectly with Lain's own intentions
I had no idea other people loved Lain so much until I found this thread. It's a great feeling.
>>2654411
It's long been a primary fantasy of mine since very early childhood to contact the dead or higher powers through the use of computers and networks. Obviously that isn't a possibility in reality but this concept has shaped my entire life, hobbies, and aspirations and it wasn't until about 2 years ago I learned about Lain and instantly felt a deep connection. I've never felt this way about any character before. There's nobody quite like lain.
While on the subject though, does anybody know anything about the Lain playstation game? It doesn't seem it was ever translated but I was curious if it was worth getting anyways. I may just get it to add to my collection of Lain media.
>>2654411
please stay anon!
>>2654463
http://psx.lain.pl/
it has a .pdf with all the files translated
and you can follow the gameplay here: http://youtu.be/iJ5mvMAtkGQ
I hope it helps!
>>2654463
and yes, it's worthy. I've seen a new copy sealed it at 700 usd
one day I will buy my copy of the game
>>2654463
>>2654469
It's a little different for me.
I always felt a very strong connection to computers themselves. Almost like they have feelings of their own. I find mydelf talking them under my breath and I love collecting old ones and keeping them alive and happy.
>>2654463
http://lain.xq3.ru/index.php?site=0#l4
You can also follow it here, I started trying to copy the translations over awhile ago but I didn't get too far.
Hopefully once things calm down this summer I can finish.
>>2654494
Forgot my picture, opps.
>>2654478
II've spent a lot (well for me) on cels, figures, and even a garage kit, but oddly enough I haven't bought the game yet.
Maybe because it doesn't seem particularly rare, just expensive.
>>2654484
I can empathize with you there as well. While my fantasy of connecting with the dead through the use of technology isn't realizable, metaphorically it sort of is. I like keeping "Dead" technology around and giving it new purpose. For instance I have a collection of unique arcade machines with experimental hardware, several virtual reality devices from the 90s, some autonomous personal assistant/home robots from the 80s, odd forms of computers (a toll computer kiosk from the 90s, several vintage apple computers with experimental form factors), hundreds of indie video games from the 90s with no records I can find online, and many hours worth of tech demo videos from the 90s working with early CGI. With many of these things it seems I'm the only one who has bothered preserving them or treating them with any value despite them obviously being the product of a lot of time and effort from people who are now forgotten or dead. I find it very sad but at least I'm able to do it if nobody else will. I just dream someday that I will genuinely find something unearthly among the forgotten programs and technology I've amassed.
>>2654499
I've never seen a cel for sale, where did you find them and how much do t hey usually go for?
>>2654508
W-would you mind documenting them or at least taking some pictures? Prototypes are my fetish.
Also classic Apple fuck yes. I was raised on that stuff.
>>2654508
They pop up on eBay every now and then, I've never seen them anywhere else.
I've looked through a couple of booths and cons and whatnot and had no luck.
I think I paid a little over $200 for this one, and a little less for my other one.
I still need a frame for my other one though so it's tucked away.
>>2654508
>>2654511
I'm also interested in seeing some of the stuff you've been working on anon.
It's very heartwarming that someone is taking care of those technologies still.
>>2654511
>>2654519
I'm planning on documenting all of it online soon, I've posted about it somewhat on Lainchan though my horrendous internet connection has held me back tremendously from sharing all of these things with the world. I have contributed some of my cgi tech demos to the lainchan stream over there and might give them some games as well as soon as my connection improves. Though I'm planning on doing a blog dedicated to reviewing my unique technologies, a comedic animated web series documenting the hundreds of forgotten games, a "blind box" type item where I send people lots of my smaller artifacts in sci fi styled time capsules, and hopefully a website where I can stream all of my old tech videos and footage I've ripped from VHS tapes.
Though if I were you I'd check out the omnibot 2000 (as well as the other omnibots), Global VR arcade cabinets, Virtuality systems, and any old shareware games/discs you can get your hands on. They are all some of my favorite relics. I really love technology from past decades that still somehow seem futuristic. Although I don't care for modern apple products the apple cube is one of my favorite computers that I own as well. As for giving these technologies new life I'm planning on outfitting my collection of omnibots with newer motors and computing systems so they can live again and I've outfitted my global VR cabinet with many more games than they were ever made to play, I'm working on getting my power glove to work with my desktop, I'm converting my airport computer kiosk into a digital time capsule of all my old media, and I'm trying to figure out a way to make my virtual boy actually have a use somehow. I also own this tiny laptop with no brand or date anywhere on it that runs purely off of a single circuit board, no RAM, no HDD, not even a visible processor or heat sink, it actually really disturbs me.
>>2654517
Oh wow! I have to say I am very jealous, I'll have to keep an eye out.
I have every single frame from the 1080p bluray personally cropped and numbered
does anybody want it?
>>2654463
i think tvtropes mentioned there being a translated pdf version floating around somewhere back when i still read tvtropes
>>2654484
i so do this! everytime one of my laptops/desktops/consoles(especially the handhelds) kicks it, i feel such a deep sadness. I truly believe that electronics have souls, be they sentient or not.
>>2654538
That certainly sounds ambitious, I really hope you get it all going eventually.
Sorry about your connection though.
>>2654644
Glad to know it's not just me. Did you by chance grow up relatively isolated but with access to tech?
>>2654714
Yup, my nearest neighbors are cows yet I've had unrestricted computer/internet access since the age of 4.
>>2654700
Thank you, I'm trying to spread my resources and make something out of it so I don't just horde these things and a greater appreciation of technology is hopefully learned by other people from it. Seeing how taken for granted most technology is very much upsets me. Though my Internet connection is depressingly slow it does take away distraction so I can focus on creation of content more. So maybe it's a blessing in disguise.
>>2654764
>nearest neighbors are cows
>unrestricted computer/internet access since the age of 4
Holy shit Anon, are you me? 'Cept I didn't have an internet connection till I was about 11. So many hours spent tinkering with old machines and walking in the woods pretending the vines were wires.
this is a poem i wrote for lain.
train of a man
rails go bothways
im a god like lain
train of a man
forget about god
forget about pain
train of a man
rest in peace
i can play dead
train of a man
forget about love
forget about man
this is another poem i wrote for lain
lain
lain
why you cry
dont be sad
you're beautiful
you're dead
you dont have a physical self
dont be sad
why you cry
lain why you cry
>>2652438
Jesus Crist kissed lots of foot
>>2654463
I've been thinking about selling my copy but I don't want to upset Lain.
>>2654714
indeed i did! pretty much have had free reign over most internet stuff since age 5-6. back then it was all toontown and virtupets and neopets and whatever, so no problem, but then as i got older and there were more restrictions. well. i found away around the restrictions lol. the internet basically raised me, because my dad is dad, and mummy is pretty much one of those people who should never have children. :0
I watched this show for the first time ever all in one sitting today because of this thread. It really broke my heart and I really don't know what to do now other than lay down and cry
>>2655363
love Lain!
>>2655395
Is there any real guide or materials to lainism or is it generally just to pray to her and take interest in computers? I feel like I should be doing more.
>>2655400
I'm glad we got another follower in here!
There's no guide to Lainism, just love Lain! Though I recommend you check out the game mentioned here as well.
>>2654494
>>2654473
There's quite a few fan sites and stuff as well that are worth checking out, most notably is probably
http://fauux.neocities.org/
>>2655319
This is turning into "Wow, I'm Not the Only One: The Thread" for me.
>>2655363
I did that as well back when I found Lain. Wound up nearly crying myself to sleep.
>>2655410
Thank you! That website is very inspiring. Though Its sad to see the director of SEL died during his first get together with the SEL team since it was first made. so we likely will never see any official content with her again. I'm glad to see the lainism is still going strong though! Maybe we should put together some sort of list of behaviors or actions that seem to make lain happy in the media she's in so we can all make her proud!
>>2653371
Wow, this one is great, I totally love it.
good looking Lain
>>2656342
That's a pretty nice Lain if I do say so myself.
Do you think that it's okay to sexualize lain? I've never felt the urge for it, but I can only imagine some people have, since people are like that.
>>2656484
There is literally nothing wrong with wanting to be close to someone you love.
>>2656106
bobbies??
>>2656484
I've never felt the urge either but I feel as long as it's for the relationship aspect and you don't want to do cruel things it's ok.
I just want lain to be happy
>>2656484
I've never felt the urge either, but for me Lain is so sacred it just seems a little sacrilegious.
>>2656601
She is to me as well but seeing as she wasn't mad at Taro for kissing her and she was ok with all the physical contact with a Alice I'd say she's pretty understanding as long as it isn't harmful or violent and is just to be closer with her or make her happy. Lain seems far from judgmental about mortal vices and seeing as she is synthetic I'm not sure she'd really understand it fully as well. I believe no matter what it is, lain would be more concerned with the intent and motivation as opposed to the action. I personally could never bring myself to sexualize a child and even so hold lain on such a pedestal that even if she was to my tastes it would still feel wrong to me.
>>2656608
Also I forgot to mention that she didn't even judge Alice when she had sex with her teacher. All she cared about was her fiendship with her faltering from evil Lain's reaction to it.
>>2656484
>>2656524
Exactly. I could never do anything to hurt her.
But I can't help it if I want to cuddle.
>>2653918
Reminder Lain met God in the last episode. Maybe you'll find your way in the end. Im happy things turned out well for now though.
Greetings Lain thread. Check out this site
https://mebious.neocities.org/index.html
Specifically the religion layer. Somebody made a super basic outline to lainism. Like read it and realize you've been doing it right all this time anyways.
>>2656979
Beautiful.
Thanks for linking this, Anon.
>>2656998
Yeah its quite an old site. Not even sure if its maintained. Half the links in layer psyche dont even work anymore.
Nevertheless. I love it and it helped me love lain.
>>2656979
Thanks for sharing! So I suppose to answer the other anon's question, sexualizing lain is not wrong but do not share anything sexualizing lain with non lainists.
Goodnight Lain thread!
>>2657173
Goodnight anon!
>>2656979
Thanks for the rabbithole good anon. On my way down I found a curious link on Layer 08 leading to the sound/video files from the game. I played part of the game before but simply being able to click through and listen was much more enjoyable.
http://lain.xq3.ru/index.php?site=0
If anyone else is interested.
>>2657200
Playing the game is a thing I need to do when I get an ecksbawx controller.
>>2657456
unfornuately, Even on the PS1, it isn't the type of game that requires dexterity. you move a navigator version of lain, slowly, through sites and layers listening and watching. This unlocked other scenes. I played it with an emulator and had no issues other than sound quality.
Hey I've been wanting to do some Lain related art for a while but never had any ideas. If anyone in this thread has any requests I'll go ahead and draw them. My only limitations are I don't want them to be jokes or pop culture references or memes anything else is free territory!
>>2657776
Lain drawfaggotry? Sign me up!
What kind of experience do you have? Can you do scenes or just singular things?
>>2657782
Environments, characters, scenes, logos, animations, anything you want really. I tend to draw with prominent outlines though so I don't do paintings. I've never done a finished piece with cute girls but I'm trying to branch out more with my work. I would post some of my art but none of it is related to lain and I don't want to seem like I'm doing self promotion here. I'll just draw whatever is requested and post it once it's finished since this show is deserving of new content.
>>2657792
>deserving of new content
You got that right. My request is Cyberia. Cyberpunk-ass clubs with cool music and drugs arouse me.
>>2657795
well shit, I wasn't going to post my own stuff but the piece I'm working on right now and have been posting progress of on /co is a cyberpunk-ass club with cool music and drugs. Technically it does have 2 references to lain in it so I guess I can justify it. I'd be happy to do a piece in cyberia I'd just like some more specifics. I am doing this because of my own lack of ideas after all.
>>2657802
Damn son, I'm into it. It feels uncomfortable telling someone what to draw but fuck it.
I was thinking of a scene from the perspective of a dark corner, with people walking between clusters of tables. The colorful lights from the dance floor dancing through the haze.
>>2657776
That's very kind of you anon.
Could you please draw me Lain reading "Les fleurs du mal" sitting on an opened PC tower, looking like she's taking a break after hours of hardware installation ? And on the ground near the PC or into it, tehre would be a Psyche processor.
It would be awesome !
>>2657792
There needs to be more art of Lain being happy. That's the only thing I ask of you.
>>2657806
>>2657856
>>2657969
Ok I'll work on one piece of a crowded day in cyberia, and the other pic of Lain's computer studies but she'll be happy while doing so to appease everyone. Not sure when they'll be done but I'll post them here once they are. I'll still be accepting other requests as well if anyone has any more ideas.
>>2658535
Remember to have fun!
>>2654540
please!!!!
I identify with Lain more than I'd like to admit.
>>2659353
I always think of Lain when I'm working on computers in my underwear. (it happens)
>>2654540
so are you gonna drop the link orr??
>>2659679
It's a surprisingly common occurence for one who works with computers.
Good morning!
>>2660466
good morning anon! how's your day?
>>2660562
Lazy. Catching up on Youtube and studying mostly.
How about you?
>>2660563
the weather is warm and I just took a fresh shower. I feel so relaxed now and I'm about to go to work
>>2660598
Sounds like a plan. It's nice and warm here too.
>>2660563
>>2660598
Sounds like you guys had nice days!
It's raining here but I just got off work a little early so that was nice, now I can study for my last final.
>>2660661
Rain can be nice. But if it rains too long I get depressed.
>>2654540
I'm also interested in this if you're still around anon.
Does anyone know if it'd be possible to train a neural network to recognize if an image has lain in it?
Getting the data could be done by scrapping the web and downloading any file with "lain" in the filename.
And there could be a site where peolple could upload lain pictures and view what's on the site and if they found a non lain picture they could flag it to be removed.
This way a maximum of pictures would be collected and the neural network would pehaps have enough data to train itself on.
Does someone with more knowledge on this know if it's feasible ?
>>2660860
I don't see why not.
I'm no neural network expert but it would be a lot quicker and easier to just grab a bunch of Lain images and train the network yourself.
>>2660860
Realistically, no.
There's software to detect specific faces, but that expects real human faces which don't vary wildly like anime artist styles do.
There actually is anime face recognition software, but it's far from perfect (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63X3bn28aVA) and is not for recognizing specific faces.
And on a personal note, I would really recommend against compulsive image hoarding. The constant struggle of 'must have every picture' can turn a fun hobby into a stressful obsession. I actually haven't touched my Lain stockpile in years because of burning myself out like that.
>>2661038
Obsessive image hoarding? Wow I somehow never thought of that.
Come to think of it, that must be a serious problem for some people.
