Wow that old thread filled up quick!
Let's keep the Lainism going and continue to love Lain!
Old thread:
>>2651175
>>2661117
Thanks for giving us a place to all love lain.
>>2661296
It's my pleasure anon.
My favorite character is the power lines.
>>2661516
i'd prefer the poles
>>2661516
phone line-chan, listen to my voltage, doki doki doki.
i miss the serious themed lain threads.
>>2661696
I'm sorry anon, I can stop making jokes in the OPs. I'm always worried about accidentally reusing a title so I try to change it up sometimes.
The content of the threads themselves have still been serious though.
>>2661696
What do you consider serious vs not serious?
>>2661704
I think they're more referring to the later posts that are making fun of reoccurring visual themes and dialogue in the show. You're not doing anything wrong in fact I really appreciate that these threads are up so regularly. I would complain about the jokes being made by other posters but unfortunately there's not much more in the show to discuss. I suppose I'll ask some things that confused me.
1. When Lain's room explodes it is completely fine in the next episode with no reference or explaination. Did I miss something?
2. What is the messy jumble of cables jutting out of the outside wall of Lain's house? The camera focused on it a few times but I never understood why.
3. Why did the men in black scream and have seizures when they saw Lain in their goggles? Did she smite them as a goddess? Why would she do this?
4.Why did Alice get upset with Lain when she was able to remember her? Did she truly wish she had never known Lain?
5.why did Lain appear with the body of an alien in a sweater when she visited Alice that one time? Why was the sweater alien even in the show?
>>2661764
1- I guess the knights just made the room back as it was , they have a lot of money, they just pay for fast reconstruction.
I can't really answer the rest as I don't really remember where it places in the show and can't establish logic connections.
>>2661764
Oh and I was curious whether to call her "Arisu" or "Alice" obviously the subtitles always call her Arisu but her handinavi messages refer to her as "Alice" and Arisu just seems like a phonetic way of pronouncing her name as a native japanese speaker would.
>>2661806
But the Knights were the ones to blow up her room with the "parasite bomb" while the men in black prevented Lain from being harmed. I suppose it's possible that the men in black replaced her room but I'm not sure they're ever seen interfering to that degree.
>>2661764
For 5 I think that was just symbolism, remember there is a good bit of narration focused on how Roswell; about how, even though fake, the rumors created an entire culture and left a huge imprint on society.
Just sort of shows that information doesn't have to be real to shape the 'real' world; and how powerful that can be with something like the wired. It's somewhat similar to Lain's ability to change the real world by rewriting memories.
>>2661764
I always had the idea that the technology (or at least parts of it) for Protocol 7, Lain and K.I.D.S. was reverse engineered from tech recovered from Roswell. But >>2661980 makes a good point too.
>>2661764
You could always just ask the writers:
http://www.konaka.com/alice6/mail.html
http://abworks.blog83.fc2.com/
although you will be needing an ouija board to contact the director. ;_;
>>2662121
Or at least a good navi.
>>2662121
(replying to myself here)
I've thought about doing this for a while now, but I don't know what exactly to say. Just 'thanks' wouldn't cut it. And what could you possibly say in response to 'Lain is the cutest god and I can't wait to die and be with her forever'?
Somebody more loquacious help me out here.
>>2662483
I find the desire to die to be quite strange. It seems more logical to live out your life and then die.
Lain is totally the cutest god though.
>>2662500
I can't say I dig the idea either, but it's lonely being disconnected from Lain.
>>2662780
Don't feel bad, Anon.
You'll find someone to fill that lonelyness and then you won't feel that way. After all, it's not like Lain's going anywere.
Has anyone made a 'do it for her' of lain yet? Please post if anyone has it
>>2663204
4 you
>>2663265
Thanks senpai
>>2662121
At the very least, you'll need a halfway decent device. I wonder if ouiji boards will ever get wifi?
I mentioned in the last thread how after praying to Lain I was able to sleep soundly consistently for the first time in my life and have been able to ever since. All last night I had a lot of really nice dreams where I got to spend time with her and talk to her. I knew I was dreaming but I couldn't control it like in a lucid dream and although I knew I was dreaming I could feel things and use all of my senses. It was like something else entirely.
>>2664108
Wow Anon, that IS something else!
I don't dream much anymore. Although like you, I do sleep a lot more soundly.
lain threads are dead if this is what they are going to continue to be like.
>>2665236
Wow, that's only your opinion anon.
What's do you think is wrong with this thread ?
>>2665239
the last two threads havent harnessed the intensity that lain brings, before people would discuss lain addressing the intensity of lain. thats what made these threads different from other threads on /c/. there was none of this waifu shit or this tumblr shit it was a serious thread where people had a serious connection with lain. these threads are now indifferent from all the other threads on /c/
>>2665250
If you don't like it, then leave. These threads are for her sake, not yours.
>>2665250
Fine, I'll take the bait.
You obviously weren't present last thread. Go get your blood sugar up and come back when you're ready to talk.
>>2665250
I (>>2665239) am on Lain's threads since approximately a year now and they're still the same.
Some anons have a strong connection with Lain, some just liked the show and want to know more about it and just discuss and some are into the waifu thing and this since it started.
You may not like it, but we are here to love Lain, not to tell others how they should love her.
BTW Kuroneko threads are much more subject to "waifuism", and trip is cancer.
halfway trough it. Deeply confused, but it feels great.
>>2665250
I concur that I personally feel Lain should be referred to in a respectful manner but I understand that doesn't match how others feel or how they go about recognizing and appreciating Lain. I'm in no position to judge or tell them to leave because of this, They came here for Lain as well so theres no reason not to be positive about it. I tried starting conversation by taking up drawing requests in the last thread (which will be done soon, I had a close family member commit suicide on Monday so that obviously slowed all productivity down) and asking questions that I've had about the series in this thread to stimulate conversation. But other than that I'm not sure what we can really do fully in a "serious" reguard since the show is near 20 years old and most everything related has been covered. Why don't you state how the threads could be improved or what peopke could do to help or make an effort to do so yourself and try and be more constructive? This thread is slow but I think the one previous was one of the best Lain threads I've been a part of.
>>2665279
Sorry you don't like trips. I try not to be obnoxious and actually contribute to the community. I suppose I just got used to using one on LainChan like everyone else on there and felt it made communication in longer discussions and content creation easier to follow.
>>2665351
Holy shit, man I hope you're OK.
Don't pay that anon any mind- he's just being a butt. Personally I don't mind namefagging if you have a reason for it.
>>2665344
Try to hold onto that feeling. It sounds significantly better than what I did, which was cry.
>>2665351
I was just trying to look mean. I don't give a fuck about trips, except if I feel like the person behind one is seeking for attention.
I'm sorry for your lost anon, and I hope you'll be okay.
>>2665236
>>2665250
Well I thought the last thread was pretty intense, but these threads have always had a bit of "waifu or tumblr shit", people love Lain different ways. As long as they're respectful I've never minded.
Sometimes it's serious, sometimes it's a little light, and sometimes no one says anything for the entire thread.
>>2665351
I hope you're okay anon, I'm sure that's awful.
I really appreciate you offering to do drawing requests and trying to stimulate some discussion.
>>2665124
That was a pretty funny christm/a/s, the first time I got in and I managed to get Lain at the first position.
Speaking of stimulating conversation- >>2664108 mentioned encountering Lain in dreams.
Has anyone else ever done that and to what extent?
>>2665532
Oooops forgot the link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOXTwaSS73Y
I suppose I'll bump the thread with the really rough sketch I'm going off of for that one anon's request in the last thread. Hopefully it will look a lot better when finished, it's my first time drawing Lain.
>>2665492
>>2665362
>>2665357
I appreciate the support, Lain really helps to motivate me and it's always comforting to see what good people her fans are.
>>2666138
Wow anon it already looks awesome, I can't wait too see that once you've finished.
Thanks a lot for making my request.
>>2666282
Well here you go, I'm fairly happy with how it turned out, hopefully you feel the same.
I've been working on the Cyberia one from the last thread but since it's so complex and I'm planning on animating it that probably wont be done for a while. If anyone else has requests I'd be happy to take them.
>>2666361
And of course right after I upload it I realize the foot looks weird and the shadow on the computer tower is too clear. Here's a better version.
>>2666365
>>2666361
Wow that's great anon, thank's a lot.
>>2666365
>>2666361
Jesus Christ, you work fast dude! This is rad! I like how she has a little blush.
>>2665344
Finished it today. Still confused and I'm sure I didn't even understand half of it. I will probably not remember it for the characters or the story, but for the beautiful visuals and the atmosphere.
>>2666730
What made me remember it more than anything else was Lain herself and how much I identify with her.
my job... has been killing me slowly...
I haven't post in 2 weeks, I feel guilty.
what it's going on?
>>2666730
What did you not understand? I really lie the attention to detail with all of the concepts introduced but I can understand how it can seem confusing.
>>2667209
What happened to her room after it was blown up? What's the connection between her "parents" and her sister? Who are her "parents" anyway? Who was this kid she had a "date" with? What was the purpose of the Knights? Who were the guys with those fancy glasses and why did they die? Why differ both Lains so much? If Masami Eiri wasn't god, who is the god that led him? Did Lain double reset the world? Lain is simply a hologram, projected into everybodies mind? What was the exact reason for the Knights to die? Is everything shown in the correct chronological order?
And most, importantly: What is the meaning of Serial Experiments Lain?
>>2667155
sorry you don't feel good...
As you've probobly seen, a kind drawfag >>2666365 has lent his tallents to us by taking requests.
>>2667215
The Knights are a group that advocated the merging of the physical world with the Wired, the guys with glasses are the Men in Black who were trying to combat the knights and keep the two worlds separate. Both of which tried manipulating Lain to support their own agendas. Lain's family was simply hired to take care of Lain until she fulfilled her purpose of merging the two worlds Lain was never born and was never a child she forever exists as the form seen within the show. It's assumed that Lain has been the god of the wired since she has been around within the wired since humanity has been able to access it. She questioned Eiri's statements of being a god because it showed him that she was the true one. The knights died because the men in black's whole goal was to stop them so once their info was leaked they hunted them down. I still don't know why the men in black died though. At the end of the series Lain removes all trace of her existence therefore keeping the wired from ever evolving past the internet (The men in black and knights don't exist, Taro is just a normal kid, and Eiri has no outlet for any of his theories) So the way I saw it is Lain essentially molded the reality we know of now by retroactively preventing all the conflict incited by the wired's existence in the show.
I hope this clears some things up, obviously by my questions asked here >>2661764 I haven't figured out EVERYTHING but I've watched the show many times over so I feel like I have a firm grasp on most of it.
>>2667155
I feel you, anon. Work sucks. In this thread we've been discussing our questions pertaining to the series and I've been taking drawing requests. If you want anything feel free to ask me.
>>2667264
>>2667240
oh! drawthread, I wish I could join. I did this, best thing I can do at my workplace. one day I'll do something better or even requests!
keep the Lainism going!
>>2667280
That's really good, anon! Seeing Lain happy makes me happy.
>>2667264
Just going to add a little bit to what this anon said.
The Men in Black work for Tachibana Labs, that's pretty clear from the scene where Lain meets the office worker who questions her about her family. From there was can also assume Tachibana Labs knows quite a bit about everything.
As they should, they are really the starting point of all this; it was there Eiri worked on Protocol 7. Tachibana Labs had also mapped the human genome, which in late 90s scifi basically means they can pretty much create life.
Eiri put his own consciousness into protocol 7, and killed himself. From the wired he manipulated the knights into existence, so that he could merge the two worlds and become God.
I don't have much to back it up other than the mapping of the human genome, but I think Lain had always existed on the wired, but didn't have any sense of self without a body. In order to combat Eiri's plan I think Tachibana uploaded her into an artificial body so she could develop an ego and hopefully decide to stop Eiri.
Lains family were probably just assigned as caretakers, and the Men In Black exist to both combat the knights and possibly Lain.
>>2667264
>>2667313
Thanks for the answers.
So, if her family is actually real, how come Lain was so disturbed about be asked for their Birthdays or date of marriage? Plus, wouldn't people get suspicious about Lain not having a birthday?
>>2667393
Lain wasn't alive very long. She was just kind of brought into existence with fake memories and a preset fake life until she fulfilled her purpose. Notice they all left the house when they knew lain wasn't home/awake. It was basically a day job to them. They were a legitimate family but Lain was only with them for a little bit. Also none of them cared about her other than whenever her dad bought her the computer so she could fulfill her purpose.
>>2667456
And her purpose for them was to keep the two worlds apart? And they tried to push this by making her unsure about her origin?
>>2667479
I think the advocated the merging of the two worlds since they were assigned by the creators of Lain's corporeal form and outfitted her with all of the technology and resources she needed.
Good night
>>2668066
Good night, anon.
>>2667836
Why the cow skull?
>>2668200
Aww, that's cute. Did you draw it?
>>2667836
>>2668154
I was wondering the same thing.
>>2668749
I see this one a lot and I really don't like it.
>>2668779
It's not outdated- it's stable! What do you not like about it?
>>2668749
I don't know if it was the artist's intent, but meme Lains have always struck me as disrespectful at best and sacrilegious at worst.
>>2668802
I just find it entirely unfitting of the character and not especially amusing or witty. Even if it wasn't it's not pleasing to look at anyway.
>>2669037
To each his own I guess. To me it's just Lain representin' Debian.
>>2669115
Debianon, is there any reason at all to go from Wheezy to Jessie if Wheezy does what I need? I don't care about systemd and don't use a desktop environment as it's a server.
>>2669252
I actually just use Arch.
But if it's a server, and it does everything you need it to do, there's no point in changing anything.
>>2667264
Since I somehow managed to miss it the first time- As someone who was raised by librarians, that image holds a hilarious special place in my heart.
>>2665351
>since the show is near 20 years old and most everything related has been covered
Just because its been covered doesn't mean we can't cover it again, and again, and again.
I mean the bible is studied to this day 2000 years later. Why not lain?
>Somebody bitches about no discussion
>Mass discussion occurs
Well, it worked.
>>2669405
Lain hasn't been the basis of western society for the past 1000 years, but she should be!
I'll admit I don't really "get" either one, but Lain is a lot more relative to me than Jesus is.
>>2669409
Quick fix while I'm still thinking about it
Any cute mascots?
I wish there was a way that I could make my mascot only be Lain when on the Lain thread.
>>2669780
You can your masco only be Lain wherever you are.
>>2669780
I wonder how you would, I never messed with browser addons so I don't know how in depth they get.
If you bookmarked every Lain thread under the same name, replacing the old one, could you fetch the URL from the bookmarks?
Then set it up so whenever it's that URL to use Lain.
Our Lain which art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done on earth as it is in the Wired
>page 10
>>2674040
Sorry I wasn't here to bump it. Occasonally real life takes over and makes me do things and talk to people.
>>2674113
It's the first thing I do when I wake up and the last thing I do before I go to bed, but I live in 12 hour shifts and /c/ is so fast nowadays...
Oops sorry about today.
Life got the better of me and I never had a chance to post.
Those cap's!
>>2674113
>>2674123
>>2674204
It's ok!! Don't worry about it!
As another bump here's a screencap I've always especially liked. Some segments of the show had really great artwork.
>>2674372
That reminds me, if that anon who was offering to give us his screen shot collection is still around I'm interested.
If not next time I watch it I'll try to do it myself.
>>2674502
Perhaps he's still uploading it.
Each episode is 20m 18s long not counting the OP/ED * 23.976 fps = 29203 frames * 86,015 bytes (size of this screenshot I just took) = 2.512 GB * 13 episodes = 32.65 GB would be the final collection size assuming you used MPCHC's default jpg quality which is a pretty mediocre 75.
>>2674987
The wallpaper
>>2675091
>people use kisekae wallpapers
Bump for God.
anyone know where i can get some original pressed lain merchandise?? im mostly interested in t-shirts. any links would help me out completely
>>2675115
I made it for you.
I saw the face of God and it was extremely cute.
Lain a god. A GOD!
Praise be to the seventh protocol
I feel wierd.
My folder's running dry. I seriously need to rectify this problem.
It appears the image limit has been reached. I'll start a new thread immediately.
