Never tried it, but one brand I can really recommend if you haven't tried it is Sobieski. It's a a Polish rye vodka, and it tastes great and goes down smooth. Almost every site that does ratings give it five stars, and around a 96/100 for numbered ratings. It's usually $13 for a 750ml bottle, $11 if you go to Bevmo and have a membership card.

Russian standard is pretty good, I've had it a few times but I usually just went with Smirnnoff since it was a little cheaper and I didn't notice a huge difference. Where I live in Canada, Tito's is only about 10$ more expensive per litre than the cheapest brand (Smirnoff), but it's much smoother IMO.
I tried Tito's because I'm a Roosterteeth fan, and they've talked about it a few times since it originated in Austin Texas like them; I was skeptical at first but I think it's going to be my vodka of choice from now on.
I recommend trying it, especially if you're in Texas; it might be a little cheaper for you since shipping isn't a huge cost. It's "hand-made", but since I can buy it in Canada I'm going to assume that that's not entirely true.

Well, one I go to because the price for quality is good is Bushmills, a blended Irish whiskey. Just don't get the honey version, it is not as good, and has a really obnoxious smell. But the regular is smooth, just a little sweet, and goes down easy. Then there is also the always good Jamesson, pretty similar to Bushmills, just a little stronger and more expensive, as well as Maker's Mark if you like bourbon.
Then for scotch there is Cutty Sark, a lower end blended scotch. It's good if you are looking for a lower priced scotch. Then on the more pricey side there is Glenfiddich, a single malt scotch that comes in varying years ranging in age from 12 to 50 years, as expected each age group is more expensive, with each having a generally sweat fruit flavors, with the longer aged varieties adding a mix of toffee and oak to the mix. Best taste for value in my opinion is the 14 year old Glenfiddich for about $55 a bottle. Definitely a special occasion or gift alcohol.
There are several other scotch brands I know but have not yet been able to try that you may be interested in, though like Glenfiddich they can be a bit pricey. These include Johnnie Walker, Glenlivet, and Macalan.
One last note, if you want to try something really interesting, you should look into Japanese whiskey.
