The science in 7 explaining the singing was just the characters missing the point. The protodevil victims were drained of their spirit and were in a sort of depression, and Basara's music helped them get out of it over a period of extended exposure. The main Protodevils could not make this on their own until they got the damn songs stuck in their heads, and tried singing themselves.
They realized that, by singing, they can cheer their own depressed asses up and fucked off into space.
