A mongolian hand puppet show has no right to be this good. Over-the-top action with just the right the amount of B-movie 80's style silliness.

The issue with the main TV series is that it had been running for years and years. So it is more like soap opera. With Thunderbolt Fantasy at least you get a fixed 13 episodes.

Use the Japanese ones, as they are what the Japanese dub uses.
Rinsetsua = guy with the pipe. He also has a street name of "Dust-blowing Wind" that he was more famous for.

Shoufukan = umbrella guy.
He has a street name as "Gapless-blade".

Tanhi = main girl.

Betsutengai = main badguy.

Hope someone elther release fixed subs or Crunchy start using Japanese names in their subs. Because using Chinese names is silly when it doesn't match what the characters are saying.

Wuxia is made of stuff like this.
I think Gen has a true love for it. I can feel his appreciation for the genre just looking at the melodramatic scenes and fancy names/moves, the simple good vs evil dynamic. Kikokugai he used it more to tell a gratuitously dark story while still observing some of wuxia's focus on things like revenge and love. but its short length keeps it from ever really being emotionally resonant, aside from dat tweest. I'm glad to see he's doing something wuxia-style again.

I really have to hope by "creative" people mean "amusingly campy and ridiculous", though if that's the case people clearly aren't paying attention to much anime cause that's kind of a lot of shows base appeal.

Also people are never going to stop with the bullshit. It's /a/, it's what the hivemind does.

It also doesn't help that the Japanese name is completely different, so you can't even pick out the pronunciation from the actual dialogue.

No it doesn't
>※Character names are presented in the format of Chinese Given Name (Chinese Character Spelling Japanese Romanization) / Chinese Art name (Chinese Character Spelling Japanese Romanization)

>So is pipe guy supposed to be a mystic or something.
The main bad guy knew who he was, so he was some famous dude apparently.
>>
>>144068901

I think people who are approaching this like it's supposed to be some sort of super ultra serious grand epic story either clearly didn't actually see the first episode or are really fucking approaching it from entirely the wrong angle. I mean fucking look at this shit and Pili series in general. Not to knock a cultural tradition but it's bloody hilarious stuff and the script clearly isn't aiming for anything especially highbrow so much as traditional camp Wuxia fare. I wish people didn't have to act so stupid about Urobuchi stuff, I mean even he said he's basically just approaching this like a fun pet project and probably looking to sell some dolls for Good Smile Company on the side if possible. I've never gotten the sense that that guy takes his scripts and projects as deathly seriously as the people that seem to expect some literature prize winning script out of him every time he steps up to actually do something.

Someone watched Garo: Guren no Tsuki it seems. Will he also start rambling about DARKNESS?
>>
>>144069115

I really don't understand why though. The guy's penchant is clearly for crazy over the top shit and cribbing from stuff he grew up watching or experienced on one of his random tourist oddities which I assume is where he gets most of his ideas cause everytime he goes overseas he comes back and suddenly is involved in a new project.

He's a guy obsessed with things like Gun-Kata, martial arts, old castles, military hardware, Gundam model kits and over the top cheesy violence. He has more in common with the likes of Michael Bay, Roland Emmerich or maybe at best Quentin Tarantino than the Coen Brothers, Jonathan Nolan or Orson Welles

Personally I just love the ANN reviews for it which I checked out on a whim cause I knew they'd be stupid and caught between Urobuchi worship and trying to seem cool and hipster with an unorthodox animation style (still remember how they raved about Aku no Hana literally just because it was rotoscopped and "different"). You can instantly tell they have a prime directive and not a single one of them has ever seen one minute of Pili puppet theater before the way they describe the fast motion, quick cuts and spinning camera angles like it's some sort of novelty for the format. Fuck ANN and it's shill moronic staff writers that know less about everything they review than I do as a rule.

They're all legitimately lucky as fuck to have jobs and that the anime community in general has astonishingly low standards. Didn't realize that this had urobuchi as the writer and walked in thinking it would be a generic animated show (only had a text description and tiny thumbnail so I didn't know about the puppets)

Thought it was full cg for a few seconds and then had my mind blown as I realized it was puppets. I have a strong nostalgia for Thunderbirds and a huge interest in ouppetry. This show is well choreographed and written and i'm throbbing in anticipation for the second episode.

Nice strawman, but I never argued about it being tokusatsu, I argued about it being /m/. It isn't. Not all toku goes on /m/, mecha related toku goes on /m/. PGSM threads always got deleted.

The funny part is that you're the exact same kind of mental gymnastics faggot I was talking about and don't even realize it. Go ahead and make a Game of Thrones thread on /m/ since it's live action with special effects, see how well it goes. You can take your retardation even further and argue that it's totally /m/ related since they wear metal armor.

>Strawman

It's OK anon. I understand that you have ptsd from the old days of /a/. Relax, thus is a safe space. Just acknowledge that the creators admit the term tokusatsu applies and move on. You don't need to be ths autistic over a simple suggestion.

Holy shit, why do you continue with that stupid strawman even after being called out on it? Do you read every other word? I never mentioned toku before you brought it up, and never contested the term after you did. So yeah, let's say it is toku; congrats, you """win""" the argument no one was having with you. That still doesn't change the fact that IT'S NOT FUCKING MECHA RELATED.

Ok, so you're saying any live action with special effects goes there? So make a Game of Thrones thread on /m/ and see how well it goes. I've seen plenty deleted myself back in the day.

Or perhaps, like anyone with common sense, you realize that loanwords are used to mean things in the style of that country, in this case Japanese style special-effects live action. Which traditional Taiwanese puppets are not.

* This is all assuming you were right about the fact you pulled out of your ass of /m/ being the official toku board, which still doesn't explain Live Action Sailor Moon threads always being deleted.

>Kamen Rider which has no Mechs
Their excuse is always power armors since mecha is for mechanical not "hurr, all live action goes here".
>>
>>144097036
>So make a Game of Thrones thread on /m/
Again with the strawman my friend I'm not trying to say Game of Thrones is /m/. But if the creators are willing to say that this can be considered as tokusatsu I'm willing to go on their word.
I didn't even read the rest of your garbage post.
>>
>>144097227
Where did the creators say this? All you quoted was this
>Tokusatsu (特撮?) is a Japanese term that applies to any live-action film or television drama that features considerable use of special effects (tokusatsu literally translates as "special filming" in Japanese)
and then arbitrarily decided that this description applied to one and not the other.

Anyway, I'm done with you. You're exactly the kind of cancerous off topic posting faggot I was talking about, with your "official toku board" rule that was stated by no mod ever. Stay retarded.

So to reiterate, I think that if this show wouldn't be welcome on /a/; /m/ would be a suitable place. But /jp/ works fine too. Are you going to have another conniption now?

>>144097840
/m/ can be pretty lax but at least in the last year or so it's mostly just stuck to mecha and the legacy tokusatsu shows. Last questionable thing I saw on there was Symphogear but that had mech suits so it passed the litmus test.

Are you playing dumb, or are you actually this dumb? Never once did I imply I have a problem with puppets. I don't have a problem with puppets, I have a problem with cancerous faggots like you doing retarded mental gymnastics to post off topic shit on /m/.

The thread that wasn't deleted starts with an OP about X-Bomber, a puppet robot show. Of course it's not off topic. Funny how here >>144103836
