Now that we have a new puppet show being aired in Japan, you knoe what show needs a revival/sequel?

What's the new puppet show out of interest?

Taiwanese wuxia puppet show directed by Gen Urobuchi, and dubbed in Japanese
>>
>>14469251
This is creepy. I never liked these kind of shows.
>>
>>14469251
I can dig it, only thing that'd make it better is robots of course.
>>
>>14469310
I don't think this stuff is popular anywhere but the UK, where Gerry Anderson managed to hit it big somehow.
>>
>>14469324
SUPERMARIONATION
>>
>>14469251
It's sped up?
That's lame.
>>
>>14469222
What this would need first is subs for the Japanese version, unless Discotek plans on doing a separate release for X-Bomber.
>>
>>14469324
Well Japan too, which is the other biggest Gerry Anderson lover. Thunderbirds went through these weird revivals every decade or so after it originally aired that kept it in the public eye in the UK, but it never managed to catch on in the US.

this show's neat

are there copies of that English dubbed one that ran on US cable out there?
>>
>>14469492

Most people in the UK don't care about it now either, and haven't in decades. The new Thunderbirds thing had almost no public presence for instance.
>>
>>14469368

To be fair, most live action human wuxia uses sped up sequences, it's just following the trend
>>
>>14469324
It was insanely popular in Japan in the 1960s; in fact, it's what led to robot anime.
>>
>>14471417
what have i just seen?
>>
>>14469251
Didn't they try something like this for America?
>>
>>14472008
yeah one of them got an English dub on... I dunno. Spike? G4? something like that I think

Puppets will never not be funny.
>>
>>14472035
It was Cartoon Network, I think. They called it Wulin Warriors, and gave it a rap intro, which is the only reason I remember it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pili_(TV_series)
>In February 2006, the American company Animation Collective who was known for Kappa Mikey and Speed Racer: The Next Generation created an edited version of Pili on Cartoon Network called Wulin Warriors. Many fans of the original series complained about the poor quality of the scripts and changes made for the American version. One example was the character Ye Hsiao-Chai (Scar in Wulin Warriors), who is a mute in the Taiwanese version of the series, but in the American version he speaks frequently. Many Cartoon Network viewers were hostile to Wulin Warriors because the programming of the series was part of a shift in the channel's focus to include live action programs. Cartoon Network stopped airing Wulin Warriors after only two episodes, all thirteen episodes could be seen on Kids' AOL, but were taken off after a few years.
Okay, Animation Collective should never be allowed to dub anything again.

I wonder if the crummy live action movie kind of sunk Thunderbirds?
>>
>>14469251
I fucking love these Chinese wuxia puppet shows. I've only found a few episodes of various ones subbed in (bad) English on YouTube, though, so something with a Japanese dub that's more likely to get an English sub is appealing.

X-Bomber / StarFleet was amazing, also. I watched the dub, and the banter between Herc and PPA was legit.

Isn't Peter Marinker (Manga dub Goto, Kingseeker Frampt) in the X-Bomber dub? Gonna have to check that out.

Captain Scarlet reboot WHEN

>>14474213
Yeah, he's Dr. Benn.
>>
>>14474224
>Captain Scarlet reboot WHEN
I thought they did one in the early 00s?
>>
>>14474522
Yeah, but it was CGI and the channel fucked all the episodes up by cutting them in half and airing them as two-parters. Out of order, to boot.
>>
It's actually pretty good.

However, if there's a Chinese version of "weeb", I am nowhere near that enough to tolerate these fucking untranslated proper nouns. Long strings of random Japanese are already a pain enough, but Chinese is even more of a pain and they don't match the Japanese dub, so you've pretty much got to guess how these are pronounced and remember them super fucking quick. The only one I can even halfway remember is the name of the bad guy organization, and that's only because there's a character display error that renders one of the letters as a box [].
>>
>>14478863
seriously this
if everybody in the show is pronouncing it as The Ping Pow Pong don't fucking rewrite it back in an accurate rendering of the Chinese of Dzang Zul Zang.
>>
>>14474534
It was CGI because Gerry Anderson wanted it to be CGI. Also it's failure thanks to ITV was awful because it pretty much broke him creatively.
>>
>>14471417
No seriously what the fuck

Why does he spin2win to cut his head off
Why does he cut his head off
What's with the giant skeleton bird

What
>>
>>14481002
I've only watched the big fight at the start but he's a super evil magic bad guy and the skeleton bird is his totes sweet flying mount. It's probably like he's all "BWAHAHA YOU ONLY CAPTURED MY BODY WHICH NOW WILL DISSOLVE INTO SNAKES C-YA"
>>
>>14481002
He's losing to the heroic wandering swordsman so kills himself and cuts off his head so the head can be carried to his villanous boss who uses necromancy to interrogate him and find out who opposes him and where the priestess girl is.

>>
>>14479912

Just cause Anderson wanted it to be CGI doesn't mean it was a good idea.

£23 MILLION for 26 episodes just for ITV to run it into the dirt.

CGI = cartoon = kids show = saturday morning

If he'd made it with puppets he could have argued for it to have been on in a similar time slot to what the original Scarlet and Thunderbirds had been rebroadcast at by the BBC, 6pm peak time.
>>
>>14487536
>£23 MILLION for 26 episodes
what the fucking fuck
nearly a million pounds for an hour of oughties CGI?

Man, Urobuchi sure is innovative for using puppets. I love how the Japanese always come up with these unique and cool ideas. If you guys are interest in puppetry you should read the Japanese article on it!

Syou stole the show this episode. I have a soft spot for grizzled, one eyed, snipers and this guy hit all the marks. Plus the whole "not many people get to choose the place of their death" line was nicely executed.

>staff handling the show is Chinese
Urobutchi did a rather smart move there. Makes it all the more authentic.
>>
>>14504080
Yeah, the studio handling the actual puppetry is a well known Taiwanese studio named Pili. They have done an excellent job with the action and expressions on these puppets and even with such stiff faces, they emote very well. Coupled with some spot on voice acting (japanese in this case) and it's a match made in heaven.

Are you serious? Puppet shows like those have been part of their culture for a long time, before you or the South Park duo were even born. There's been puppet shows like that on the TV for ages. This is nothing new to them.
