Eh, it'd be quite different from those two still. Max and Milia were in situations where they tried to kill each other due to being on opposite sides of combating forces, but there was no real emotional gulf between them other than Milia's hurt pride.
Freyja and Hayate on the other hand are two people who hit it off really well from early on and have great relationship. That said, I can totally see it go this way, and I'm not sure I could avoid feeling cheated if it didn't.

Watched it a few times. I like the first OP more, but I like this one's PV better. It looks better produced and I think it did a better job of helping me differentiate the VAs (probably because I'm more familiar with the characters now?)
- Freya's VA is cute! CUTE! She's smiling through most of this, and she's adorable.
- Makimaki's VA's expressions are surprisingly sultry (see 0:42, then the "squeeze me" at 0:53! 2lewd) I... I love it
- How is Mikumo's VA only 15? Where is she hiding that voice?? But I wish she'd emote more. Especially if/when she performs live.
- Reina's VA's voice is really nice and I wish she had more lines in songs where it's just her? If not a solo, or one with her as the center.

So I can guess what happened
War was happening and Hayate dad (was it Right/Raito Immelmann?) likely met Freyja and gave her the music player
Now here's where I figure there are two options, either
-Hayate dad was ordered to drop the bomb, likely on Windies' ruins, but doesn't and drops it somewhere else
-Or Hayate dad was full on soldier ready to drop the bomb but then the Freyja encounter happens and he decides not to
Hayate dad is blamed for doing everything wrong as shown by NUNS guys' distaste for the name Immelmann. It would be really fucking dark for the show, but he was probably court-martialed as a lame duck and maybe killed. Arad, who also sympathized with the Windies, finds Hayate by conicidence because destiny and shit and that's how everything from episode 1 happens.Freyja wins the bowl.
Of course, this all assumes Hayate's dad is the one who dropped the bomb in the first place, but there's no reason to have all this mystery if it wasn't for something dramatic like that. Also, this ties into what Arad said earlier about how Windermere and Hayate are linked
