The problem with modern tanks is that weapons improve faster than armor.
When HESH made steel armor obsolete, designers decided to focus on firepower and mobility because protection was a lost cause.
When composite armor showed up to counter HESH, designs got more bulky.
Now we have sabots and rockets that easily punches through composites.
In response, counter measures like reactive plates are currently being developed.
Tanks didn't become obsolete because of HESH and they won't become obsolete because of modern AT equipment.

You really need to ask? Just go look at Syria, or really any reliable source of their performance. It's practically a souped up T72B3 anyway which is hot garbage to begin with, unable to fire with accuracy to 1.5km on the move at more than 15km/hr. The T90 was a VERY incremental upgrade, more of the electronics than anything. The 2A46M is still crap to begin with, almost forcing one to conclude that the Russians simply accepted the lower kinematic performance of the gun because they figured 'the missiles will do it' and relaxed the requirements, more to give them the benefit of the doubt before accusing them of outright stupidity than anything else.
