I think people started to dislike her because Araragi is so flustered around her. His banter with all the other girls is better, where she just kind of controls him. We get to see another side of Crab around Kaiki, but most people just attribute that to Kaiki being cool.
So in a show where 80% of the fun is Araragi' sweet bants, Crab tends to ruin that.
I personally like Crab, but I get why others think she's incredibly boring.
I don't get this series, man. It doesn't go full harem series, it constantly teases but very rarely actually goes there. It doesn't goes full supernatural mystery/adventure either, the narrative always pulls back from it whenever it starts focusing on that aspect. Despite the lack of stuff going on there still exist several characters who exist pretty much purely to dump exposition. The author insists on shoving really preachy "moral of the story" type messages at the end of almost every arc for some reason.
Feels like if it did go full supernatural mystery, it'd be good addition to that genre. Or if it did go full harem series, it'd be a good addition to that genre too. As it stands, it's a a weird inbetween that does neither side as well as it could, feels weirdly over-indulgent without much actually happening.
Araragi is an interesting take on the "terrible hero" type of character I guess. I feel like the series would've been better if Ougi (I know what her deal is) had been introduced way earlier too but oh well.
