It`s really not just the waifu thing. The game felt more like a step down from Graces with less combo possibility. You can also swap characters in other games, without being limited to a 4 combo move like in Zest, and even if you can have a ability that cancels this 4 combo limit, the skill system is still more of a chore than anything. There's even a fucking /ss/ canon pairing between the Velvet and Laphicet.
The characters don't look like they're going to be insufferable either like some of them did in the Zest trailers, and, if some of the theorizing is correct, it's going toward a tragic ending rather than a 'muh everything is gonna be alright', which kinda makes sense. Like, Aizen is almost surely Edna's brother, for instance, and we all know how THAT ends.
I guess the one caveat is it's probably going to be a bit edgy since the entire party's long-term objective is to kill Artorius, but I'd take edge over muh morals any day.
