I have just learned 知る is an exception for the continuous tense (-ている), in the sense that it is not like English.

Can DJT tell me whether these conjugations are ok, then?

彼の名前は知っているのか?
はい、知っている。

Also, what happens if I say
このを知る。
?

Is this something like "I am learning about it at the moment"?

Also, another exception are motion verbs, in which the continuous imply conclusion of the motion.
So what is the best way to say "I'm (currently) going there"?

あそこに行った?
あそこへ行った?
Maybe adding a "もう" to remove ambiguity and emphasize the action is not in the past, but rather happening?

It functions the same as the いちにち・一日 in the following
昨日は一日で本を五百ページ読んだ。
Yesterday I read 500 pages in a day.
Yesterday (昨日は) I read (読んだ) 500 pages (五百ページ) in a day (一日).

To reference the shitty meme
今日も一日がんばるぞい!
Even today/also today (今日も) I will try my best (がんばる) for the whole day/throughout the day (一日).

>>140870484
That's racist, anon.
Any adverbs in particular which are screwing with your head?
>>
>>140870507
>彼の名前は知っているのか?
>はい、知っている。
looks fine to me

think about 知る like this:
知る is a verb meaning to learn / find out about something
いる just means to be
so 知っている literally means "to have learned (about) something and be [in the state of having learned (about) that thing]" which effectively means "to know" (which is why it's usually translated that way)

>このを知る
この is the adjective form of "this" (as in "this book"). you want これ, the noun (as in "i want this").

>motion verbs, in which the continuous imply conclusion of the motion
it's not always useful to think of -いる as the continuous tense. sometimes it is but sometimes it just means "to be" after having done another action. so 行っている can imply conclusion of motion because it's just "to go and (then, after you get where you're going) be"

Anyone have any idea roughly how many words are in the DoJG deck in the CoR? I've been adding words I haven't come across in Core yet and so far the Intermediate volume is giving like 6 unknown words every concept.
>>
>>140871696
i started like 3.5 years but haven't really used my nihongo skills in like 1.5. i used tae kim in the beginning and dojg for stuff i found while reading that he didn't cover.

>>
>>140871067
I see, but in the first sentence isn't で doing the job of indicating that the action occurred in that time? There is no で in the second sentence, 一日 is just kind of dropped there out of nowhere.

I'm studying Core 2k+6k because the Cornucopia tricked me.

It's too late to stop now, so is there an easy way to add the remaining 4k cards from the Core 10k to the back of the 6k list? Has anyone done it before?
>>
>>140872710
>so is there an easy way to add the remaining 4k cards from the Core 10k to the back of the 6k list?
Yeah: Mine them instead of taking them from core 10k.
>>
>>140872570
I remember a while ago Cor-kun somehow came up with a figure of about 10,000 words and 1900 and something kanji for all three books, but I don't know how accurate it is.

>>140872597
What makes you think that? Maybe anon just wants to learn the words he doesn't know.

>>140872656
で when it performs that function can be dropped when it is for contextually obvious things in more colloquial usages.
>>
>>140872742
Why not use a resource which is already available?
>>
>>140872837
Because it's not worth the time of using it as opposed to something as simple as making something up as you go.
>>
>>140872791
So I could remove で from the first sentence and it wouldn't affect it at all?
>>
>>140872710
You can format your fields so the core10k deck matches the Core2k/6k deck, export the Core10k deck to notes and then import the core10k.txt file into your Core2k/6k deck. If you set it so it ignores cards for when the field first matches (provided the field is unique, so maybe make the vocabulary field with kanji your first field) so when it imports the notes exported Core10k deck into your Core2k/6k deck, it will only add the cards not in your Core2k/6k deck.

If you have any associated media with the Core10k deck, just dump the files directly into your profile collection.media folder and the cards will use them, no issue.

>>140872887
>Because it's not worth the time of using it
So instead doing something which takes vastly more time and maintenance? I'm lost here.

>>140872923
Look up the entry for で in the Intermediate volume of the A Dictionary of Japanese Grammar series. It explains it properly and clearly.
>>
>>140872923
the difference is you wouldnt be saying で

>>
>>140873071
>So instead doing something which takes vastly more time and maintenance? I'm lost here.
Yeah actually. I guarantee you will become more fluent/literate more quickly if you mine instead of doing 10k's 4k.
>>
>>140873139
Your guarantee is boring conjecture. For the same reason why Core2k is optimal for rapid learning, so is Core6k and Core10k.

>>140873313
It's more to do with the fact that I haven't fiddled with ANKI's edit capabilities before, I just shoved the deck in there and studied. This would be my first adventure into actually using the deck browser and whatnot.

If you can make an image, yes, that'd be yokoso. I just intend migrating cards and sounds, images didn't work back then and nowadays I'm glad they didn't, they are pretty shitty.

Big sentences kinda scare me and I'm not confident if I'm getting it right or not:

> 実は本誌が初めて20ページ漫画制作で、漫画作業の大変さの色々痛感しておりましたが、
こういった形でなんとかまとめることができてホツとしています。

Breaking down:
> 実は本誌が初めて20ページ漫画制作で、
"Actually this magazine was supposed/planned to have 20 pages,"
> 漫画作業の大変さの色々痛感しておりましたが、
"I was keenly aware the work had various issues/problems"
- shite~orimasu puts this sentence in the "will happen" time, right? I can't understand how it would go "I would be made aware of the various issues with the work"?

> こういった形でなんとかまとめることができてホッ

"I was relieved I managed to settle/order things up somehow"

Yeah. Judging by the instructions, the addon seems to look at the Expression field to figure out what word to make an example sentence for. So the Expression field has to contain a copy of the word, even if you're not directly using the Expression field.

I changed the names. Now the Expression field has the Kanji. Still not working doe
>>

Try adding a new card by hand. See if it adds an example sentence that way. If it doesn't, something's wrong on a different level. If it does, that means you have to do bulk writing:

>Offers a bulk-add option to permanently write examples to the destination field. Writes 5 sentences by default. Especially useful for mobile users. To use this option, go to "Browse -> Edit -> Bulk-add Examples"

I'm drawing a total blank on what should be easy dialogue on this first page.

The whole "でも絶対じゃないしダメなんだ" part, I just don't get it. 絶対じゃないし in particular. "Not totally opposed"? But then why is it followed up with ダメ?

Pure gibberish, great.

I knew you were in this thread, and I posted anyway, so I guess it's my own fault for expecting some help from someone who isn't a complete fucking retard.

When are you going to get rangebanned already? You've never once contributed to the thread in any way.

Let's pretend that you actually think that's a real translation, and that you thought you made a post that explained anything.

It didn't. You've offered absolutely nothing aside from giving me a nice little (you) and wasting 20 seconds of my time as I try and decipher the absolute gibberish you wrote as an "explanation".

You aren't helping anyone. Nobody is assisted by your clueless posts. You could be a fucking Japanese master, but your complete inability to type basic English makes your posts solely detrimental.

yes but when you're reading somewhere and you first encounter only one of them and don't have the other one to compare sizes

Guys please help me with this doubt.

In a light novel, a character is nicknamed:
建御雷 - Takemikazuchi

And Ive seen some people calling him
建やん

Is that read Ken-yan? Why is he calling him that? Is it because of 建? Ive seen it translated as Take-san. Just want some confirmation. Thanks.

Two characters arguing, trying to blame each other for starting the fight, third character trying to break up the fight says
>どっちが悪いとかじゃないじゃないですか

I get that they're trying to say something like "It doesn't matter who's in the wrong" but can someone break it down for me so I can see how じゃないじゃない works?
>>
>>140887665
The second じゃない is just a polite way of seeking agreement.

>そうじゃないですか?
>Isn't that right?

Is there a mass exodus of japs to other countries or something? I keep hearing them at the super market and doctor and shit. Is it just because I can understand them now? There are lots of chinese here so I'm like 珍しい but now it's really common I think.

Yeah pretty much how I was thinking. The double jyanai putting the negative right against the affirmation like that just threw me a bit
>Docchi ga warui toka jyanai, jyanai?
>It's not a case of who's wrong, okay?

Or something...

I was wondering if someone could explain the differences between the following phrases:
X は/が 必要ではない
X は/が 必要はない
X は/が 必要がない
X は/が 必要ない
If I am correct, the way that these are structured are:
X is not needed (必要[adj.]+negative です)
X is not a need (必要[noun]+は+negative ある)
There is no need for/to do X (必要[noun]+が+negative ある)
There is no need for/to do X (必要[noun]+negative ある [が dropped to make it more casual])
Am I correct in thinking of the phrases this way?

Pretty sure this is the autistic one considering it was literally made to bait people into arguing about someone who literally flooded the board with duplicate threads trying to get the thread banned.

Don't know the person you are talking about.

I can't figure the speaker from this dialogue, I got it as "Isn't that what I've been saying since the beginning?", but is there any possibility it could be "Why didn't you say that from the beginning?"
