When you know what pain is, and when you have to make a choice, you learn that it is a decision. People think it's a fairytale thing, love and happiness, but you have to work hard. And then - you feel it deeply.

How do I determine whether the らりるれろ sounds are supposed to make something closer to an R or closer to an L? I've noticed that it's more like an L when it's at the beginning of a word.
>>
>>139426266
Just listen to Japanese.
If you've watched enough animu you should know what らりるれろ sounds like so just imitate that.
>>
On Anki, if I import a card with the same front but changes in the back, I thought it would change it. Instead, it seems like it's just not adding them. What can I do to change that?

My hand was pretty sore by the last お, so they suffered pretty hard. I'd done 20 each of あいうえ and their katakana equivalents (which I can't figure out how to type on my phone) by then.

So if my earlier ones were good, I'm happy.

My き is coming out worst of all...
>>
>>139427417
Then do it like the nip children do it; get a sheet meant just for writing individual kana.
You know, those squares that are broken into 4 smaller ones to give you a sense o positioning.

>My き is coming out worst of all...
Are you writing your き the same way it shows up in these posts or like the one here >>139427648 ? It`s easier to do it like in that guy`s pic.

By the way, you`re in for one hell of a ride if you intend to write the kanji as well.

It's harder to write き like in the font, better switch now so you don't have to change your habits later on.

Kanji seems like this intimidating mountain to beginners, but it's really not all that hard once you get into it. There is only so many different strokes + radicals, just arranged in different ways.

After you're done it's like "the fuck, I thought kanji was supposed to be the hard part" and you realize how foolish you actually were.

Just do things consistently and you'll be fine.

20~50 for most depending on how much time you have. Some do really high numbers for short periods (100+). Breaking the learning into chunks of 10~20 at a time generally helps.

Expect the number of new cards added daily to multiply by 10 in terms of reviews after 2~3 weeks.

Also, remember that keeping up your daily reviews is MORE IMPORTANT than learning x number of cards a day. If you're getting backlogged and struggling to make it through all your reviews, take a day or two off of new cards to keep things under control.
>>
>>139428588
The hard part is being consistent with the size of your hand written kanji. Writing 子 and 難 can be tricky if you want them to occupy roughly the same amount of space.

It helps to either use the specialized paper for learning kanji (grid divided into 4 smaller squares) or just plain larger graph paper.

I completed memorization of kana today!

Is there any proper order to learn now, or do I just do vocab / grammar / kanji side by side? I've got the core2k/6k anki set up as well as Tae Kim bookmarked. Anything else?
>>
>>139430392

It depends on how good do you want to be.
If you just want to be good enough to read porn, studying via vocab is more efficient.
If you want to truly master the language, studying the kanji individually is better. The road is steep though.
>>
>>139430392
Focus more on kanji for a bit if you find that vocab is becoming too difficult.

Try to get through basic grammar faster rather than slower as well, so you can start reading interesting stuff (likely yotsuba& at first) rather than just grind vocab forever.
>>
>>139430392

Remove the review limit on anki, ignore anon's altered anki statistics, set up a text hooker for VNs and start reading VNs or manga as soon as you want

For info on kanji check the guide under
Learning Japanese > Benefits & Drawbacks of Learning Kanji
It's up to you if you want to focus on kanji or not, but it's generally helpful if you're confusing similar looking ones or having trouble learning new vocab.

>>139431262
Some people change the Steps (in minutes) to 1 1 10 20 or 1 1 10 30
This just means that anki will show you new cards additional times, the repetition helps some with initial learning of vocab.
>>
>>139430392
Do vocab and grammar side by side, but prioritise grammar. Fuck studying kanji individually.
>>

I played Demons Souls in Japanese. Wasn't particularly worth it. Localized dialogue was actually superior to the original dialogue.
>>

I did play DS1 ~2 years ago because DS2 was then coming out soon. I thought it was a fucking masterpiece, easily one of the best games ever made. Then DS2 was very disappointing. I look forward to DS3 based on your impressions of it, although I may need to upgrade my computer first.

I listen to music in japanese, fap to works written in japanese, read japanese comics, do japanese flashcards every day and unconsciously review phrases in my head. On top of that I read something that's above my level for at least an hour a day. I don't think playing one game in english will make me 'fail' to learn japanese, especially when some might even consider me to have already passed the point of being able to 'fail' learning Japanese.

Nobody above intermediate is going to spend a significant amount of their time in this shithole. You can tell by the recent threads. When anyone posts a question that's even remotely hard, it gets little to no replies. It used to be that imouto would give an answer to these questions but you fuckfaces have chased him off too.

And now look at this thread. Someone posts some hiragana or some shit and everyone fucking replies to it because that's the only Japanese they know. If that doesn't tell you how shit this general has become, I don't know what does.

The only reason why I'm still here is because I love eating shit, but I don't see myself staying any just to be lectured on my learning methods by some self-important shitter who's just started his Japanese course.

I was thinking about why it was hard for me to get into watching anime/tv as practice and it finally hit me that I was hesitant to start reading as well until I realized that there's no need to worry about ruining/misunderstanding dumb nukige. Similarly, there's no need to worry about misunderstanding dumb harem anime! So, has anyone watched some genuinely bad harem anime lately that would be good practice (as opposed to good ones like Inou Battle and Bakemono)? All I can think of is something like Highschool DxD that I read the LN for.

>望むことは、即ち得ることだった。- in this context, does this mean "what was desired, was acquired"?

>唯一興奮することは、支配域を奪うことだが、何世代も前に、すべての力は完全に拮抗していた。何の変化もない日常というやつだ - I understand from the first part of this sentence that "the only thing that excited (us) was taking (someone else's) territory" but what does
"何世代も前に、すべての力は完全に拮抗していた。"? Countless generations before (we) perfectly rivaled power?

Yeah, 拮抗 can be "力に優劣がなく互いに張り合うこと" which fits this idea of "perfect rivalry" well, so I agree that it's probably something like "(Even) countless generations ago, all (our) power was perfectly balanced in opposition."

(If you meant "It was countless generations before our power became perfectly balanced," that would be すべての力が完全に拮抗してきたまでは何世代も経った or something, I think)
