Most likely communications are okay as long as they're between ahab reactors powered machines. Cities and ordinary phones aren't ahab powered, so they just shut down.

As for other stuff, you space out signal boosters to act as relays. Gjallarhorn had those waypoint things on their route to mars (that tekkadan gets connected to and was using to send their own messages) and during battles tekkadan was using ghese little floating ones (we briefly see them in the island battle).
It is pretty inconsistant how bad the interference is though.

we have mika/kudelia, even if it's faded already since mika took kudelia's reaction as a rejection basically and just rolled smoothly with it. atra likes mika as well. i think orga might have a schoolboy crush on merribit but that's dead in the water with recent episodes. not much else.
