Most likely communications are okay as long as they're between ahab reactors powered machines. Cities and ordinary phones aren't ahab powered, so they just shut down.

They are only supposed to interfere with wireless stuff. I assume the stuff shutting down in the city is because they are controlled by a wireless network which would explain why ahab reactors are banned from cities.
As for other stuff, you space out signal boosters to act as relays. Gjallarhorn had those waypoint things on their route to mars (that tekkadan gets connected to and was using to send their own messages) and during battles tekkadan was using ghese little floating ones (we briefly see them in the island battle).
It is pretty inconsistant how bad the interference is though.

I think one episode, or more like half an episode is a bit little for a redemption. Ein's end is going to be sad, he's already in this gruesome state. I actually dropped the show on her first episode because I realized everyone plot armor thicker than Biscuit's gut and everyone was so fucking boring that I was rooting for the villains.
Also, each episode was just Tekkadan fucking about their ship talking about how to be cool while constantly repeating whatever the last person said to them as a question and staring off into space contemplatively before effortlessly curbstomping the enemy (usually thanks to Mika singlehandedly taking on everything with some minor support from the space whores) in a wholly underwhelming fight while the villain of the week they're pitted against this time expresses the same exact utter confusion and dismay the last one did at getting bested by these gosh darned plucky underdogs who've only suffered casualties from being TOO amazing and merciful that one time because Tekkadan can do no wrong.
It got pretty boring after a while.
Ein will die, Gaelio will escape with the knowledge that Fareed is scheming behind Gjallarhorn back.
Also I wish they didn't waste half of the second cour, they would probably be able to give it a proper end without the need of a second season if they hadn't totally fucked up.
