RP is still markedly different because when you RP you're trying to maintain character.

It may not be better but it's still different from avatarfagging, and I don't find that this person is RPing anyway.

I'm having trouble memorising the Core2k/6k in Anki

I always have to have 5+ attempts at a new card before I get it, is that normal?

I also have trouble with things that are very similar like 持つ and 待つ. How do you guys remember stuff like this?

I had the idea of doing my Anki reps and then going through and grabbing all of the Kanji I had just gone through and adding them to a seperate deck that contains the Kanji then on the flip side the pronunciations and example words it's used in. Do you think that would help?

is the kanji and pronunciation for circle and yen exactly the same or am i missing something
>>
>>138986613
待つ has the same symbol as 行く, which was like the first real kanji I learned. And I learned 待つ before 持つ so since it was the first of the two I draw a parallel to 行く.
Just find arbitrary patterns to help you with that stuff. If you're too dumb to come up with one feel free to remember that there's someone out there that learned 行く and 待つ before 持つ.

I'm about the same as you (though at 800 words) and I tried Yotsuba the other day.
I feel like it's a bit misleading to tell people to try for a first translation. First of all, Yotsuba is a retard, so half her sentences are grammatically incorrect. As someone new to Japanese, you're bound to get confused as fuck when she changes a pronunciation or misuses a word.

Better to start with something that's adult or teen focused imo.

>>
>>138988867
Uhhh... I guess I see why you'd want to do that. But I don't think it's really necessary for Tae Kim.
The idea is to go through it relatively quickly so you can start reading as soon as possible.
It's okay to not fully understand everything because you usually won't fully grasp it until you start actually reading.
You can always come back to it afterwards.

But I guess if taking it slow and writing helps you learn better then feel free to do so.
I personally took it pretty slow when going through Tae Kim but I wish I'd have spent less time going through it because my understanding of grammar didn't really start to take shape until I actually started reading.

>How do I translate my name into Kanji? Is it even possible for a gaijin? Do I choose them based on meaning and attach furigana?
>I just don't want to have a silly katakana name.

Foreigners don't write their names in Kanji. It's just weird.

Japanese people won't even realize the Kanji they're looking it is supposed to BE a name if it's not a common Jap name and there's a gaijin face attached to it.
>>
>>138989467
Just settle for katakana like a normal person, making up a kanji name for yourself makes you look like the ultimate autist.
>>
>>138989380
I'm torn between doing more vocab a day (50 new + reps in the morning and then 50 more latter if I feel like it) so I can get to reading actual Japanese faster, or doing a Kanji deck along side the Core2k/6k.

If I was to do a Kanji deck I'd probably make my own based on the Kanji I meet in the Core2k/6k, since that would surely help me remember it.

Which do you think would be more benefitial?

What is the か supposed to mean here?
>>
>>138990369
なりそこない means a thing which failed to become something or a thing which looks like something but not totally. So unless you specify that "something" it doesn't make sense.
Ex. 蛙のなりそこない, 人のなりそこない, ...

Close. Remove the first し
ちゃう = てしまう

Just make a deck with the example sentences as you go through it and make sure that you understand them fully. There's no way the info will stick if you just read through the book once.

Or use the deck which has been highly recommended to use with TK, for years now.

Or use a newer variant with sentence diagrams.

I feel guilty for using all of this bandwidth from AnkiWeb. I don't know how I even have 34,000+ media files.
>>
Is there anyway to get Japanese text to work properly on Android? Ankidroid and other apps keep using Chinese.
>>
>>138995574
Why do people actually bother with Ankiweb instead of just syncing with dropbox or something?
>>
>>138995574
Yeah, man. I think they don't accept donations, but encourage people to contribute instead.
>>
>>138995643
Why would one use an external hosting service instead of the direct syncing service that is part of the program?

>>138995635

>>
>>138989654
Just came back. Yeah it's like you said. Why?
>>
>>138995702
Ankiweb has always been slow as shit for me and dropbox has the advantage that, if you actually use multiple computers, the syncing happens automatically behind the scenes.

They do. It's called paying for the iphone app.

Newfag here, the sticky doesn't give a recommendation for hoiw to learn kana, should I just grab a Hiragana+katana deck from anki and use that or is there a better recommendation? About how long should it take to learn the kana?

1. Find a kana table, just google it there will be hundreds
2. Write down each kana and their corresponding "sound" fiddy times
3. Jump on this and grind: http://realkana.com/practice/

I got them memorised in a weekend. With hiragana especially you see them constantly anyway so you won't forget them. I quit for over a year and when I came back I still remembered all the kana, it's almost impossible to forget.
>>
>>138995918
Nah, we all start somewhere anon. Though it is something that could've been solved by checking Anki's manual. That deck has a lot more cards than it needs, so feel free to delete cards when you feel they aren't necessary or you don't need them anymore. You want to get through Tae Kim relatively quickly, so don't let the deck pace you and hold you back.

>>138995929

Oh okay so you guys are just a bunch of virgin bullies. Im going to go learn chinese instead. Enjoy your dying meme language so you can watch cartoons.
>>
>>138996175
Sure.
Save them as tabbed spaced csv files and make sure the encoding is set to UTF-8. Alternatively you can copy and paste the contents of the spreadsheet directly into something as simple as notepad or a text editing program and save that as a txt file, making sure to save the encoding as UTF-8.

Anki will parse the tabbed spaces/columns as fields and each new row is contained to a single card. Using spreadsheets/text files is how all of the large/popular Anki decks came to be.

Cool.

Since the iknow core 6k content was released under creative commons, if you live in an area within reach of a native tutor or something, they'd probably be willing to be recorded if it equated to money. They usually charge a set amount per hour and tend to be willing to take on anyone for even the stupidest language related stuff. Might even be able to find a Japanese girl to record.
It is a better way of ensuring correct pronunciation from actual natives.
