So I just read all of this http://exhentai.org/g/896565/2f90ab7f38/ and understood all of it aside from one thing on page 11 (pic related) I'm slightly confused about.

>ほんとうはココアさんの特別な妹じゃなきゃ嫌なんです
"The truth is if it's not possible for me to be your special imouto I hate it" or something like that, anyway that one is OK no problem but the next one :

>妹のままじゃ嫌なんです
I'm not sure to get the meaning she wanted to convey. I'm confused about the 妹のままじゃ, like, what is the じゃ doing here alone like that?

Context for those too lazy to read the whole thing : she's jealous of the fact that Cocoa has other imoutos aside from her, little girl problems, etc.

The recommendation image for VNs has more than just hanahira. It even has a couple things that are genuinely decent like Eustia.

Ika musume would be an obvious addition to manga. And I'm sure manga experts can think of more.
>>
>>138967635
Pokemon and other baby games like Yokai Watch are baby easy, Final Fantasies and the like are on the level of a shitty LN, megaten is a bit harder.

And it will be wildly inconsistent because people have different standards of difficulty. It's hard even to rate difficulty consistently with yourself, because as you read more you get better at japanese and things seem easier.

And my point is that having difficulty ratings for a ton of stuff is pointless, because what beginners need is just to be spoonfed a small list of easy stuff to start out with. If you aren't a beginner you should just be reading whatever the fuck you want anyway, and should be able to judge for yourself how hard things are.
>>
>>138967844
The thing with those "Easy VN" recommendations is, VNs are way too fucking long. By the time you finish a mid sized VN you might go from total shitter to a decent reader, totally forget how you struggled in the beginning and think "oh shit, that was easy despite being my first VN, gotta recommend it to anyone".

> If you aren't a beginner you should just be reading whatever the fuck you want anyway, and should be able to judge for yourself how hard things are.

I agree, but I don't think anyone's ever made rec charts for beginner games, books, etc. What's on the spreadsheet is a good place to start, I guess, but anything that isn't a VN probably also doesn't work with a text hooker (and/or the resolution is so shitty that you can't make out what's being said).

I'm about to start going through the Core 2k/6k optimized deck, though I'm wondering if it's okay that my eyes usually gloss over the kanji of vocabulary I don't know and just read the kana in the sentence?

I figure most of the words/kanji that are unfamiliar at first will be introduced later, so this is probably a stupid question.

Right I formulated this wrongly.

All I meant for anon is that reading only Hiragana games to us is really frustrating and not worth it as oppose to Japanese who wouldn't have a hard time reading those, thus anon should look into BW and XY or other games that aren't only riddled with Kana.

OR

The subject is the research group, and the -te form would indicate that the two verbs are two seperate actions (if it were a verb modifying a noun it would be 使う)??

You don't really need to read the example sentences (except the English translations to clarify the meaning sometimes).
>>
>>138968950
>>138970671
I'd argue trying to understand the example sentences/how they are constructed is a good way to solidify some of the grammar you are learning early on, but yeah that other anon is correct it's not actually important that you can read the sentences.
>>
>>138968950
Focus on how Kanji are read and how they form words, try to notice patterns and shits. Trust me that's almost all that matters with core. Read / listen to each example sentence at least once but that's it, focus on the words that's showed to you before anything else.

Are there any subs that are tailored towards learning Japanese by listening naturally, e.g. keeping some words in Japanese and preserving as much of the word order as possible? Perhaps have a few "levels" of tracks, where when you get more than comfortable in the track you're currently on, you can switch to the next one for something more challenging?

Japanese grammar and word usage is significantly different from english's. You can't simply swap out words one by one and end up with a japanese sentence.

Ok. Then I'll repeat: What does "バカにしないでくれる" mean when followed by "!?" as the punctuation? The sentence doesn't seem like a question (rather, it seems like an order), but it has a question mark. How would this be translated?
>>
>>138973075
Yes, I know. I could gather mostly what it meant if it was presented similar to e.g. "Yui は Akari の dog が likes", where it doesn't even try to match English grammar but still be legible and useful if you understand already some basic grammar rules and structure
>>
>>138973203

Not all the words, but just to help with understanding the syntax and grammar better, while being able to pick up vocab from the words being spoken.
>>
>>138973335
>>138973380
Additionally, what you're saying would be バカにしないでくれ.
>>
A question to people who have read the bakemonogatari books, how would you rate them in terms of difficulty?
>>
>>138972809
at first i suppose there's not much of a choice. but think about it this way. when you hear or read or absorb anything in your native language, you just "get it". the meaning comes with the words. the instant you receive them, they signify their proper concepts in your mind.
what i mean however, is that when i'm watching or reading something in japanese, the words don't yet signify the concepts they're supposed to entirely. instead, they signify english words to me. so instead of signifying their concept, they signify another signifier, if that makes sense.

>>138973066
thanks for the reassurance.
>>
>>138973424
I asked the same question about two threads ago. The grammar is difficult, the vocabulary is relatively easy in comparison. Also, the wordplay is insane. You might be able to understand it even if you're somewhat of a beginner, but you won't get all the subtleties.
>>
>>138973304
This seems right. Can anyone else vouch for this?

>>138973334
>confirming whether the person really バカにしないでくれる
But isn't バカにしないでくれる a "stop it" order? If it was バカにしてくれる , I could see it as "Are you making fun of me!?", but with しないで, I don't see how that can be.

>ないで is only a request if ください is attached or implied.
I thought it was since I consider くれ(る) as a downgraded version of ください.

>ばかにしないでくれる is just a negative of ばかにしてくれる: You aren't making fun of me!?
Doesn't this give the implication that the speaker doesn't think the other person is making fun of them? Because in the context, the person is assuming they are being made fun of, which is why they spoke.

> It's no good for your learning if you just insist to people telling you the answer they're wrong, you know.
I know, but I did not do that, so I don't know why you are mentioning that. Indication confusion for a response is not an "instance to people telling you the answer they're wrong" as you are claiming.
