Calming down after the last arc.
English WSJ gave World Trigger the cover this week. This cover is from volume 2, I believe.

Golden Osamu?I've been waiting for this.
Sigh...Wen is sexy.
I've really liked Galo throughout this whole thing. Their underdog, reluctant mercenary/vassal feeling has been great. It's so weird to sympathize this much with antagonists.
They're going to be coming back, so I'm placing my bets that they'll accomplish something next time.

I'm slowly getting annoyed by the rank wars. Yes, we just had the invasion, but seriously 5 battles with nothing, but ranks on the line? The MCs will go to the neighborhood either way, no need to prolong it even more.
This is more dull than AssClass

In a world full of Side Effects, why would they spend so much time trying to figure out how the enemy got information?

I might be beating a dead horse, but why does World Trigger get so much flak from people, especially ones in the other WSJ manga threads?
>>138918998 as an example, but I'm really curious what kind of mindset these people are under to have criticism like this if you can even call it that given /a/'s shitposting standards nowadays.
>>138919769
There are any number of side effects that could let they see through your plans. Maybe they can detect intentions, or hear what you're saying on your ship, or see through feints, or sense oncoming attacks. You don't have to think "maybe they have someone who can see all possible futures and their branch points", you just have to think "maybe that have someone who can get a bit of information."
>>138918704
>no sweating Osamu
Osamu must be pretty confident.
>>138920098
It's weird and boring and there's not often mortal threats.
That's what I've gathered I think. There are also complaints about Ashihara's artstyle (mainly the faces) and that characters don't tend to be very emotional. And, of course, there are complaints about the main character being a pansy.
Lastly, people can simply not like it.
>>138920132
Well it's all ESP stuff so I'm not sure what other side effects would allow someone to figure out their plans. Maybe mind reading, but I get the feeling we'll never get an outright mindreader in this series.
>>138920132
Well, it's important to determine in what way they are getting the information to counter it properly
>>138920098
People call it boring because the author can't draw faces
>>138918398
Or shit happens and they end up working with Miden-sama. Don't worry about Miwa, Scarface will fix Miden later after they get revenge on Aftokrator.
>>138918094
I don't think these are so much death flags as setting up Border being hit hard by something Jin's predictions can't deal with. Ashihara's made a point of giving Jin's predictions some weaknesses. As Jin talked about with Osamu, sometimes landing the best future is a high risk, high return endeavor. And Galopoula still has one member that Jin hasn't seen, meaning he can't directly predict what that one member will do.
And Galopoula isn't limited to attacking the away ship. They're just under orders to attack Medeen. Destroying the away ship was simply the best option they could come up with to fulfill their orders, while not pissing off Medeen too much. If the away ship is too well protected, they could attack other parts of the base, attack branches, or attack the city. Plenty of room in that for Jin's predictions to fall through.
Remember, Border's goal in this attack is to keep the invasion low key, so that civilians won't start panicking. Doing something like having the operator of the trion soldiers take them into the city to just destroy buildings, while the rest of the group moved to attack HQ again, would blindside Jin, and put Border in a hard place.
>>138918970
The rank wars are quite possibly the finest training arc I've seen. We get to actually see Osamu, Chika, and Yuma developing as a team, and building up their skill set from fairly sparse, to something more versatile. At the same time, it's fleshing out the other Border agents, and providing various additional bits of information. It's also got a couple side plots going on with Chika's brother coming up again, and Hyuse seeking a way back to Aftokrator. Plus the Galopoula invasion has served as a nice interlude to give us some fights with some higher stakes, and give the higher ranked members some screen time.
Thanks for the dump.
>>138920201
>>138920225
I can agree that Ashihara has a serious case of sameface and lack of variation in expressions, but it's not super detrimental to my experience so far.
>boring
>no stakes involved
These arguments, though, are hard for me to wrap my head around. I guess it's just a case of stop liking what I don't like, I guess.
>>138920362
honestly I like Ashihara's sameface
Or rather, predetermined faces, since there is actually a lot of face variance between characters.
>>138918970
I see it more of a character introduction arc. Sure you could make it different to but I enjoy the battles.
>>138920098
It has a really weak beginning. World Trigger takes quite a long time to hit its stride, and before it does it's just terrible.
It also doesn't help that the artist is pretty bad at drawing faces. It's hard to appreciate the nuances of someone's character when the only expressions they ever make are ( ー̀εー́ ) or (~_~;) or maybe ((゚□゚;)) for special occasions.
>>138920098
Not gonna lie. It's like AssClass where I unironically enjoy both series, appreciate the bit characters' roles in the story, and find the subdued personalities to be refreshing, yet I really can't bring myself to give a damn about 75% of the supporting cast.
I won't argue with people who criticize the faces, since I think a good chunk of the cast looks emotionally constipated. I guess, depending on your taste, they can come across as "battle hardened" instead or something.
>>138918970
The only thing I don't llike about rank wars is how silly the scoring is, and how much it promotes killstealing, which isn't actually useful in the field.
>>138920098
The simple answer is that WT is different compared to other shonen, and people don't like different if they don't understand it, and if they don't understand it their default nature is to hate on it.
The long answer is that a lot of shonen readers read it for the MC, which they get attached to. Most simply cannot attach themselves to Osamu, and seeing as how he gets wrecked most of the time I can't blame them. A lot of people read manga for the escapism after all. And due to this they can't be bothered to continue reading on and discovering that Osamu isn't only the MC.
Ashihara's style of writing is also very logical, and that reflects onto his characters' personalities and outer appearances. Many readers read shonen for the hype, and while WT has it, the logical nature of this hype is very different than what most people are used to, which circles back to the simple answer.
I actually like Ashihara's faces. The stupid duck faces makes reading this series relaxing.
Also you linked a post from the BnHA thread. Everybody here knows that those threads are getting worse and worse each passing week.
>>138918970
>not reading WT to see exactly how our crappy protagonist is gonna achieve that without "muh friendship/power level power ups"
You need to either enjoy the ride or come back in a year when they're ready to go on their expedition
>>138920587
Being able to "save" someone at a moments notice is a good skill to have. That's what Ninomiya did in the last rank war before ending Zoe.
>>138920201
Chika's side-effect hasn't been fully explored yet, but she can sense when and where neighbours are going to attack.
Yuma can see through lies. Again, we don't really know it's limits but it's possible he could see through something like Reghi's feint.
>>138920681
Yuuma's lie detector works on spoken words only, or so we've seen. If he had been in front of Reghi when he did any of his BS and declared his bluffs, Yuuma would've seen through it.
As for Chika, her side effect is indeed somewhat mysterious. Not sure if it's danger sensing or trion reading or what.
>>138920602
>Also you linked a post from the BnHA thread. Everybody here knows that those threads are getting worse and worse each passing week.
True. I figured it'd be a decent post to use as a segue into discussion, though.
But I guess I can see where people are coming from. That said, I like Osamu a lot. Seeing him improve is what of the things I'm looking forward to in the series. And also Yuma donning his Black Trigger.
>>138920681
Reghi stated an outright lie so I'm sure Yuma would've seen through it.

Okay, not all, but waaaayyy mostly.
>>138920098
Slow paced series with a large cast tend to be pretty niche. Not to mention Ashihara's art is pretty weak, so that turns people off.
>>138920873
>fujoshi bait is not strong enough
Have you SEEN the state of WT on sad panda? All those delicious Konami doujin aren't being uploaded or translated at all. Fucking fujos.
>>138920201
>and there's not often mortal threats
I just figure anyone complaining about that is either retarded, or a shitposter baiting people. The vast majority of the time, shounen doesn't have credible mortal threats, as few mangaka are willing to kill off major characters, much less main characters. All a shortage of mortal threats does is enable the protagonists to lose more often.
>>138920587
Not really. Technically Osamu "stole" Izumi's "kill" during the invasion when he used Chika's trion to blast the rabbit Izumi was fighting. Rather than being annoyed about "his" kill being stolen Izumi thought it was awesome. That's true in more general terms as well. If you look around and see your fellow Border agent is fighting an enemy, and you have the opportunity to shoot that enemy in the back, you shoot them in the back and bring the fight to a much swifter, and more certain conclusion. Kill stealing in the rank wars only encourages such "dishonorable" yet practical behavior.
>>138921142
well really that's why I like trion bodies
There's no need to pretend people are in any real danger, so when they ARE in real danger it feels legitimate.
>>138921142
>Rather than being annoyed about "his" kill being stolen Izumi thought it was awesome.
No wonder he's so privy to being Osamu's mentor. Even more of a reason that I really hope he manages to impress in the upcoming battle.
And honor is for chumps. Practical, multi-man tactics are the way to go.
>>138921142
>Kill stealing in the rank wars only encourages such "dishonorable" yet practical behavior.
You've got to to consider the other side of it though. The rank wars don't just encourage kill-stealing, then encourage keeping enemies to yourself and doing everything you can to prevent others from getting kills. It teaches you to enjoy kill-stealing yourself, while hating kill-stealing in others.
>>138921142
I see the better example being where Azuma shot his teammate to prevent him from being captured.
>>138921577
Another example would be Zoe's set up right after he was shot by Ninomiya. Technically Yuma and Azuma "stole" two of Kage's potential kills. But you have to admit, the way they instantly took advantage of the situation is quite impressive.
>>138921447
The thing is, the rank wars almost require you to work as a team, lest you get chewed up and spit out by teams with better teamwork. So agents also get plenty of experience in supporting their teammates, and setting enemies up for their teammates to easily take them down. Especially teams with snipers where it's pretty much standard practice to be getting some fire support against an enemy.
So a fellow Border agent picking off an enemy your fighting isn't going to be unusual, and odds are decent it'll be someone on your squad as usual as well.
>>138918398
I really like them too, I am hoping that Miden and Galo end as allies at some point, I imagine Kotaro being their senpai while all of them sit on Tamakoma sofa and eat ramen, Hyuse will teach them how to use the sticks.
>>138922811
Whether they become allies or not, if any of them should end up at Tamakoma I want it to be Reghi. His interactions with Hyuse will be interesting.
>>138922934

Fanart has nothing to do with if the manga is fujo or not
See Seraph is a full fujo pandering manga with a large fujo fanbase for the same reason
At the same time Kekkai Sensen has no fujo pandering in the manga whatsoever, and it still has a even bigger fujo following than Seraph
Now if your argument towards something you think is fujoshit is "male characters exist" then you are a fucking retard
Didn't get Replica-sensei, but can't really complain.
>>138923344
Thank you anon
>>138923493
The series isn't gay but your claim was that it wasn't appealing to fujos. It IS. It's VERY appealing, and it really is because "male characters exist". A lot of them.
It doesn't pander to fujo in the slightest (the only thing you could call gay teasing happens between girls) but like practically any WSJ its fanbase has a very, very large portion dedicated to fujoshi.
>>138923495
Where did you order those anon-kun
I sort of wish it was possible to do a split box of those straps here. That way everybody could get the character they wanted
So what do you think the score will be? I'm thinking:
T-2: 7
Kakizaki: 1
Kat: 0
>>138923495
That boxart for a somewhat smug Osamu though
>>138923495
I want that Kitora, but my experience with anime/manga merch is very low.
>>138923623
Personally it can go either way. But giving T-2 the majority of the points seem all too plausible.
Kakizaki does have map advantage.
>>138923623
Nah, give Katori one of T2's points
>>138923623
I don't think Ashihara will be this cruel to Katori squad. They'll at least score 1 point.
>>138923747
>>138923864
Katori Squad has losing momentum and didn't study their opponents at all. Their is a good chance they will get sweeped
>>138923621
Local weeb store. Bought them because I really liked the art style for this series and haven't seen it online. Not that I tried, of course.
>>138923623
>>138923938
I miscalculated!
Kaki: 3 (2 survival points)
Tama: 5 (1 survival point, Yuuma, Yuuma is the only one who scores)
Kato: 1
I'm really looking down on Katori Squad but their poor rapport between team members, lack of practice, lack of preparation, and that they their last match make me think they're really fucked. Kakizaki is defenses so they'll come away with the most survival points. Tamakoma will be amazing but Osamu and Chika will be taken out.
Kakizaki will take out Chika. Katori will take out Osamu. Yuuma kills everyone who doesn't survive.
>>138923938
But Kakizaki's cautious style hasn't really payed off for them in the mid B-Rank
>>138923938
>two squads getting survival points
Not sure how it works
>>138919503
Not quite. Ratarikov and Reghi are now sitting down.
>>138919960
It's funny to look back at their pre-mission meeting. Reghi talks a big game, and does the most complaining. Yet when the actual mission went down, he ended up contributing the least.
>>138924081
Isn't there a time limit?
>>138924081
I'm not either.
Actually yeah, I was wrong.
Since there would be multiple teams alive there'd be no survival points.
So
Kaki: 1
Tama: 3
Kato: 1
>>138924049
no survival points if Kakizaki and Tamakoma are still around at the end so just subtract those
>>138924168
I cannot see this being Tamakoma-2's worst mid B-Rank match considering the opponents.
>>138924157
You don't get survival points if you hit the time limit
>>138924168
Tamakoma is getting at least 5 points.
I'm expecting Tamakoma-2 to dominate. Knowing that both teams lost to opponents Tama -2 have already beaten before leaves me with high hopes.
>>138924049
This Kaki girl is pretty cute, I look forward to seeing her get trapped in Osamu's spider web
>>138924232
World Trigger has a habit of surprising. 4 points isn't bad at all. That's an entire team +1.
>>138924412
I will bet against that.
>>138923344
>>138923542
Oh, his salt is going to be marvelous when he sees horns boy.
>>138924555
The surprise will be Osamu and Chika doing better with their new triggers.
I can see them dominating this match and getting wrecked once Hyuse gets in because reasons.
>>138924654
I don't think that will be a surprise. Not for the readers.
>>138924555
I mean, Osamu will probably help Yuma score a point with Spider. Chika will probably help score another point with Black Lightning. And Yuma will likely score a point on his own.
That's 3 already, so unless they hit the time limit again, they will get 5 points.
>>138924652
Nah, he's become more docile.
I don't see him throwing a fit.
>>138924664
Hyuse pulls out his magnet trigger immediately and gets T-2 disqualified
>>138924695
There are other teams.
If he gets 3 that leaves 3 that are still fighting. There are 6 against them at all times and I have no doubts that Osamu and Chika will be taken out in this match. Without support it'll be more difficult for Yuuma to finish off Kakizaki Squad at least since, if Tokieda is to be believed, their tenacity is really impressive (having no one bail out during the invasion is no joke, and they technically fought against a humanoid neighbor).
I'm sure all of Katori will get taken out whether or not Yuuma has support. I'm betting on 4 for certain with Yuuma being unable to finish off the last two members of Kakizaki.
>>138924841
>if Tokieda is to be believed
Tokieda is also biased towards Kakizaki because Izumi considered it a negative quality.
>>138924168
I doubt Kakizaki's squad will survive. While Katori is just flat out unprepared, and just begging to get blown out by Tamakoma-2 and Kakizaki, Kakizaki's squad is noted for being overly cautious. Which wouldn't be too bad a thing, except that T-2 is about to debut Osamu setting traps, and Chika using an unheard of trigger configuration. So either that'll make them hesitate too much, or they'll be trying to avoid being overly cautious and fall victim to the unexpected tactics. At best they'll have someone manage to bail out to avoid giving up points.
So I figure something more like
Katori: 0
Kakizaki: 1 to 2
Tamakoma: 5 to 7
With Tamakoma not having any bail outs.
Katori will lose one or two to Kakizaki, and the rest to Tamakoma-2 without scoring any points. Kakizaki will lose at least a couple members to Tamakoma-2, and unless the last one bails out, they'll lose all three.
>>138924937
Tokieda is pretty level headed regardless
>>138924809
Youtaro senpai is holding on to it atm so don't worry.
>>138924981
>>With Tamakoma not having any bail outs.
No way, though I suppose they've almost managed before.
>>138925037
At worst Chika will get hit since she won't be suing bagworm the whole time, but that will be it. Osamu will be safer thanks to taking a more frugal support position
Osamu will almost certainly get taken out early. Maybe not in this fight, but possibly a later one. But his Spiders will remain and set up a few more points.
>>138925157
Katori and Kakizaki don't have snipers, so she won't get taken out by surprise. No one in border can take down her Shield with a gun either so they'll have to get in melee range, that's where Osamu's Spider will come into play.
>>138925292
Katori is apparently is a high mobility all rounder who uses grasshopper so she would be able to get to Chika fast.
>>138925205
Later fights? Sure. This fight? I'm doubtful.
>>138925292
One of Katori's members has chameleon. They can get in a surprise attack.
>>138919979
This image is so sad and funny at the same time, poor Reghi
As usual, I'm happy people can't really agree on how an upcoming battle will turn out.
>>138918704
Katori and Glasses sure do dislike each other
>>138920587
I think it promotes the flexibility of thought, rather than the actual action.
>>138925679
Which one has chameleon again? The one that's taking the opposition seriously, or one of the ones that's kind of blowing it off?
Either way, the chameleon user running into spider wires and getting detected seems like a prime way for Osamu to make a contribution.
>>138925908
>>138926038
Glasses has chameleon.
>>138926038

Been meaning to get into this every time I'm on crunchy. Is the anime alright or should I just read the mango? I've been wary of watching the anime since I don't trust Toei with anything that isn't precure. Is it DB Super bad, or does the anime has a semblance of budget?

Q.290
Which chapters does sensei most like and spend the most time on?
A: There are two chapters, chapter 79 and chapter 85. Chapter 79 was the climax of the large scale invasion, and I had already planned out what I was going to draw, however in the end the story took off in a complete different direction from what I had planned, but it still progressed naturally, for which I am grateful for. Chapter 85 was during the time when I couldn't move my body at all due to my neck problems, and I had designed that chapter to be the last chapter of this series, so it stirs up some deep emotions within me when I go back to read it.
>>138929004
I think the potential black trigger needs to want to become one, and you can't just slaughter whoever for the sake of making it
>>138928235

Remember, black triggers reflect the personality of their creator, and require a compatible user. So attempting to mass produce black triggers doesn't guarantee the creation of black triggers you can use. It's entirely possible you'd end up with a bunch of black triggers that can only be used by someone that's insane, or hates your guts, or is loyal to a specific(rival) country or family, or who only serves themselves.
In short, there's probably a lot of ways that forcing someone to make a black trigger can go wrong, so most people just wait for someone to willingly an hero for their country.

Their new trigger combos are designed for support rather than scoring points, so it would make more sense if they earned most of their points by setting up easy kills for Yuma.
But if it comes down to Osamu and Chika vs. either of the other captains, and either of them managing to land the kill shot, then that would be really hype.
>>138931030
So that's why Chika's attack is so low
