Naruto suffers from the fact it has two main characters and they're both awful. Naruto and Sasuke are caught in a never-ending cycle of bullshit one-upmanship that means they get more and more powerful, while retaining their abysmal personalities. Naruto isn't too bad when it focuses on someone other than those two.

The second greatest hero and the MC's second mentor having to gang up on a wild beast doesn't make them competent, it just shows that again, the author refuses to have ANY character accomplish any genuine feat if it isn't Deku or All Might. Only them are ever pushed to their limit in life-or-death situations, if it's not them, the battle is one-sided as fuck or ends on someone being stupid and making a fatal mistake.

I think other than Todoroki, Shouji, Tokoyami and Aoyama no one would follow Kirishima. And the reason why these 4 would follow him is because of guilt about how they couldn't protect him.
Deku has to tell all of them about the consequences if they do this mission. Getting wounded like him, getting punished by the law, expulsion from UA, death. All of these are possible consequences of doing this mission and Deku has to ask them why they want to do it, because guilt shouldn't be the reason.
Only Deku and Kirishima have a real reason because both of them call Bakugo their friend, although he wouldn't call them his friends.

I mean, Deku's quirk is super strenght, the mangaka chose it because (and I believe it's even aknowledged in-story in the bus ride to the training area, or was it referring to the hardening's quirk), it's flashy and efficient in most situations, so it's easy to write satisfying fights for the character.
