The big otaku pandering areas like Akiba, Nakano, Ikebukuro etc are packed with people the days immediately following comiket, so they jokingly extend the event in that spirit since you're going to be pushing/shoving your way through extremely crowded stores and probably sweating a ton.
In summer it is absolutely unbearable in the popular shops. Even with all their AC on you feel like you're in a sauna. At least at comiket there are shaded areas and being next to the ocean usually grants a gentle breeze that helps, but in the stores you're just captive to the heat.

If their line has died way down then they may let you take a look though. Otherwise the tables with shorter lines are usually more lenient. The fringe tables usually have somebody (sometimes a decent looking girl) behind the table asking if people want to take a look at their goods.
Most of the smaller books range from ¥500-¥1000. The most for a single book this time around was probably ¥2500, with the Tabgraphics blanket costing ¥4000 but that is a specialty item.
