Half true.

There can definitely be a warm up period where you have to get into the swing of things, and the period after your warm up sees you get better.

However, after a few hours, you kinda start to lose focus. I've found a few times that towards the end of my reading, I started running into more and more things that I couldn't understand. So, rather than lose parts of the story, I stop playing. Then I come back the next day, and those parts are easy.

Sometimes I wonder if learning a foreign language to masturbate to erotic games featuring drawings of underage children, at the expense of socialising with other people or contributing to society is really a good idea.

Learning a foreign languages increases your capacity to contribute to society, and widens the pool of people that you can socialize with greatly.

Why the hell is を at the end of a sentence? I get that there is neither a subject nor a topic specified since it's the continuation of a monologue about an unwanted guest which is spending time with the speaker's master, but I still can't wrap my head around this

The reviews are when the words actually nail themselves into your long term memory, and the longer you wait, the longer you have to forget, and the less chances you have to review the word. So yes, you absolutely need to get your reviews down to zero every single day. You're actually making life harder on yourself by setting a review limit for purposes other than splitting your reviews up throughout the day.

If you have too many reviews for your schedule/capacity to focus, tough it out and lower the amount of new cards that you're doing every day by five.

>>
>>134118434
If you want to keep reviews low then
1. keep your new cards low
2. hit easy more often
3. adjust starting ease, easy bonus, and/or interval modifier (If you know what you're doing)

The only time limiting reviews regularly won't result in a pileup of reviews is when you could have gone through it normally like a good ankek

The only circumstance where it's acceptable to hit easy is when you know the word so well that you can recognize it without even thinking about it, as if it were a word in your native tongue, and you're sure that you'll never forget it. If you can hit easy, you can basically delete the card from your deck with no consequences.

Otherwise, hit good if you get it right relatively easily, and hard if you struggle or possibly when you get it "close enough" (for example, you say きゅう when it's きょう) and when it'll just push it back less than a month.

>>
>>134119920
There is no universal best way, all people have different ways of learning and necessities. I for example use Genetickanji for learning new characters and Obenkyo for doing reps while commuting
>>
To people worried about thinking in English instead of Japanese: Get your reading skills up a bit, and then put a concentrated effort into your listening skills. If you're reading VNs, you can work on both at once, using the VN text as a transcript (a text parser can come in handy here).

You can't think in English while listening. You don't have time. You understand it either as Japanese or as a jumbled mess.
>>
>>134119411
I can't understand without context. I interprit this sentence as 挙句+こっちの忙しくなる時間に帰ってくる妙な問答+を. But in the first place the word "問答" feels odd in this sentence. Isn't it 面倒?

>You can't think in English while listening. You don't have time. You understand it either as Japanese or as a jumbled mess.

This is why you should start watching anime without subtitles (sol-shit and the like, that is) as soon as you learn some grammar and vocabulary. (in my case I started watching sol-shit without subs when I was half-way through Tae-Kim and knew about 1500-2000 words)

Instead, most faggots think that waiting until they are masters of grammar and know +25000 words before watching anything without subs is the best course of action.

If you can't understand it you can't understand it. Watching without subs isn't going to magically increase your comprehension yet sometimes subs can be useful for quick reference to check your comprehension on the fly which in turn can make it easier to deduce further surrounding things from context that you can take away and learn from.

There is no shortcut to "thinking in a language" as it ultimately boils down to dominance of comprehension in the given context. The adult brain can't simply shut down and start thinking like a child if it has already build up an extensive and complex knowledge network of concepts and meaning attributed to language. After enough continual comprehensive input you'll naturally start to focus less on things like subtitles as it is actually easier to let yourself focus on the spoken language because 1. the comprehension is there and 2. the context is easier to follow overall from the visual queues in association with what is being said.

>Instead, most faggots think that waiting until they are masters of grammar and know +25000 words before watching anything without subs is the best course of action.
These straw people would get a hell of a lot more out of unsubbed anime than those with fuck all vocabulary and structural comprehension. I'm surprised people to this day still spew out repackaged versions of AJATT blog posts. The science doesn't support your rhetoric. Your ego is the only basis here.

>>
>How did 面白 end up meaning “Interesting”?
>According to 語源由来辞典 ( http://gogen-allguide.com/o/omoshiroi.html ), 「面白い」 is originated from 「面白し」. 「面」 used to mean "a sight/view" (the source says the front of eyes) and 「白い」 used to mean "bright and clear." Then 「面白し」 later came to mean "a light/bright sight/view" and then later "a beautiful sight/view". It further came to mean "fun" or "comfortable", which represents a pleasant feeling.

Alice in Wonderland, norse mythology, etc. I especially recommend reading the plot summary of Cyrano de Bergerac, it's referenced a lot and is quite important to the story so far, you'll be doing yourself a favour if you know the gist of it before you start reading.

Why did Japan think it was a good idea to have 4 vowels that only make 2 sounds?

Look at this shit.
>まえ
>まい
and
>もう
>もお

It's fucking impossible to tell the difference unless it's very carefully sounded out. Given Japanese operates at a pace almost twice as fast as English, it becomes indecipherable pretty quick.

These are actually pronounced the same, but that doesn't mean う and お are the same. う and お are completely different sounds but, for reasons, as a rule, when う comes after an お syllable you pronounce it as お.

So I need to start learning Kanji/Vocab while practicing Grammar today (transitioning from Kana).

I grabbed Anki and the Core2K/6K deck last night and tabbed up the Tae Kim guide for grammar. Is doing these two in parallel good enough for beginner material vocab/grammar or should I add a Japanese Grammar deck to Anki to supplement?

I also need to ask if the default settings for Anki are ideal as far as reviews/new cards/intervals go. Haven't payed attention when lurking the threads earlier since I was still on Kana.

I've read Tae Kim really only covers up to beginner level grammar so I feel I should have a contingency plan once that well runs dry.

Any advice, /djt/? My compelling content awaits.

Oh man I fucking remember that game and being slightly annoyed the third one wasn't released in English. Finishing it completely tanked my mood because I realized there was no more. I guess I have some compelling content of my own to go get now I can actually read it.

As for your actual post, fuck, I took a really unorthodox path I can't advise at all since it was slow as shit. Sorry.
>>
>>134127486
Set max reviews to 9999 and new cards to whatever you can handle doing daily. 20 new per day means 200-300 reps per day after a few days
>>
>>134127486
Tae Kim covers enough to start reading. You'll still encounter stuff you don't know but as long as you aren't too stupid to google or look things up there's no problem.

DOBJG deck is probably a good idea too just because people here go through tae kim fast so you need to try to actually retain a decent amount of basic grammar somehow

Let's not get into this here further since it's nether /pol/ nor /r9k/ but /a/, but suffice it to say that: yes, there are some women who are attracted to crazy murderers. However, there is a contingent of men who feel the same way, for example all of the guys saying "I want to fuck Casey Anthony" back when that case was going on. Most online posts claiming things like these are joking, and the ones that aren't jokes should just be ignored. Anyone who actually would want to be in a relationship with a murderer, regardless of gender, is crazy and should be avoided.

What I'm saying is no one with a handsome face will have any problem finding a girlfriend as long as he has the social skills. If dealing with a younger counterpart having no social skills would be okay as well. The game of 'love' always comes down to looks and money.

Regardless of whether he is a murderer, or insane, this kid will have no problem getting a girlfriend thanks to his face. 10 years down the road if he doesn't become a neckbeard he'll be fucking girls left and right.

>人並みの知性を朱った少女
I' having a tough time wrapping my head around this bit. Particularly the purpose を serves here in making "bloodied girl" the direct object of average intelligence. Does it just mean that she's of average intelligence? Here's the whole sentence I'm looking at:

人並みの知性を朱った少女は、自らの首に巻かれたピアノ線を気に留めることもなく立ち上がろうとし、もがき、それは徐徐に少女の菜肌に食い込み、首の肉を裂いていく。

And my take on it so far:
The bloodied girl of average intelligence keeps trying to stand up, struggling, without considering the piano wire around her throat, so it gradually bites into her green tinted skin splitting open the flesh of her neck.
