>Do you take any day off from studying japanese or you study everyday?
>and how much do you study?
I study daily. I spend around an hour and a half on Anki (reviews and new cards + custom study session of today's forgotten cards at the end of the day), and probably about 20 minutes on writing kanji.

Going to start reading and mining soon though, so the above is subject to change. I'll still study every day though because one day off can quite easily turn into two days off, then three, four... a week... a month... etc.

How do you guys do your vocab reps?

1. Do you try hard to remember what a word means before pressing "again" or do you do so shortly after noticing that the meaning is not obvious?
2. When finding a unknown kanji in a word, do you stop to search what it means on jisho (or equivalent) before carrying on?

Would you keep doing anki reps if you got cancer? I think I would.
>>
>>133565964
I think "know" is commonly used in both senses, that is including just recognition or including both recognition and production, and that trying to monopolize its meaning in some sort of war for semantic supremacy over one specific use of a word with an already ridiculously broad meaning is silly and unproductive. It's easier to simply make it clear whether you're talking about production, recognition or both.
>>
>>133566366
Right now I'm doing anki reps exclusively for harder kanji and rare words; if I got a fast-acting terminal cancer (dead in less than 2 years) I'd drop it and just read moege / nukige while crying because I'll never read Muramasa at a good speed; if it'll take 2-4+ years then I'll actually double anki and speed the fuck up trying to get to Muramasa level in time.
>>
>>133565979
Most of the arguments involving RTK are likely the same few people, considering it's the same argument every time. If you're interested in handwriting kanji from memory and understand how mnemonics work, then it's great at what it aims to do. If you're just using it because you have slight retention / recognition issues / mix similar kanji up because you don't know radicals and aren't paying close enough attention and don't actually care about ever handwriting, then it's likely a waste of time unless you have the worst vocab retention in the world.

My only issues are some of the keywords are a bit shit and some kanji are easy to confuse due to similar keywords. I'm combating this by adding cloze vocabulary to my cards (words with the kanji in question replaced by its reading in that particular word). I'm eventually going to remove the keywords from the front altogether.
>>
>>133565964
Does "one" ever "really" "know" a "kanji" though?

つったって here is used as a broken down version of -って言ったって which means "even if you say so" or "you say that, but".
The rest of the sentence; 体位 - Body Position, バリエーション - Variation
Combined, the full translation is:
You say that, but, I don't know too many sex positions.

there is no correct reading, it depends on the context

So? Both are used. If you're going to make a reading quiz shouldn't you keep it limited to words with unusual readings at the very least?

They are words commonly misread by Japanese. It doesn't matter if some gaijin says that the kanji is just using a common onyomi.

What do you mean by that? Each kana only corresponds to one sound, doesn't it? Are you talking about kanji?

It takes a couple days at most to learn all the kana through rote memory, if you put some effort into it.
>>
ゑ What is this hiragana?
>>
>>133571642
Yes, but two symbols can be in the same Kana, and it makes a completely different sound. In Korean for example, ㄱ= k ㅣ= i 기= ki. whereas in Japanese, こ = ko, and に= ni, despite both having the symbol for ko in it, if that makes sense.

Genki only teaches classroom Japanese. It's primary purpose is to give students the information they need to answer questions in exams. Tae Kim has a broader scope because it's intended for self-study and not constrained by what is and isn't needed for students in a classroom environment.

For instance, you won't find any of this in Genki because students won't be tested on it:
