Seems like it might be this season's kyousougiga or uchoten kazoku, something that starts off with amazing production values that quickly deteriorates, with half of /a/ proclaiming it's saving anime and then never mentioned again after airing.

Holy fuck, this episode was a BLAST! I'm generally not into action shounen stuff, but this is probably AOTS. The fight scene was great and the whole narrative was genius. With some funky jazz that gives off an atmosphere right out of some 50s film noir, this is a mix between so many things that it works like a fucking tank.

If you're referring to the gate that explains why the city is in such a weird state (the one that destroyed and rebuilt the city) then there is no exact explanation, that's part of the mystery, mate.
if you're referring to the gates the one specific monster (or two halves) came from then it's simple. We see a half of the monster coming out of the bandit through a gate/portal which looks very similar to the the other half that came out of the monkey.
Then we get to

Hence they are following the monkey and trying to kill so that the monster doesn't reunited
