Is it worth upgrading from a 1080 monitor to a 4k one for making 3d stuff?
>>
>>524972
no, it's actually stupid, cause your gpu will have to draw a lot more pixels
>>
>>524972
Complete opposite. It's an absolutely terrible idea
>>
>>524976
This. Woe is me for falling for a 4k laptop with 950m.
>>
Though, it's probably fine with some steroid setup but hell. $$$$
>>

I refuse to get on the 4K train. That means going to 8K textures. I restrict myself to regular HD as target resolution and manageable 4K textures.
>>
>>524986
4K would make sense for VR where the extra resolution is stretched across an expanded visual field, for a 'window to another world' monitor it is overdoing it with current tools.
>>
>>524988
I don't mean 4k as a render target. I mean 4k as your own desktop resolution, like more space to fit more UI shit on screen like Maya
>>
>>524997
You will want your display to show stuff at it's natural resolution.
A 4K display device showing a stretched 1080p image will look less pleasing than viewing a 1080p image on a display that have 1080p as it's natural resolution.
>>
>>524999
unless you disable scaling and have a giant enough display so that it's not a UI for ants.
>>
>for 3d
lmao no it isn't needed at all

>for digital painting/drawing
absolutely
>>
>>524999
isn't it not an issue if you're halving the native resolution, though?
>>
720p for life!
>>
A second or third monitor is a much better investment.

I'll be that guy who'll say yes
because interface has way more space and you need space when you are working with graphic programs
just don't render in 4 k because you have it :D or go 2 k ro 2 monitors IDK
but more resolution means better interface and interface is the most you are looking at :D

>I'll be that guy

you sure are

This. Getting an extra monitor was best pic upgrade I've had. Although I mainly do programming it'd awesome to have a reference image or something on one screen and blender on the other when modeling.
>>
Get a 5k monitor, 1080 gtx, water coooled nitro CPU.

You'll need it as a beginner 3d artist. It'll improve your art.
>>
Jumping on the dual or triple-head train. Multiple monitors vastly outclass a 4k behemoth screen.

In fact, if you *really* want that extra push, you can 2160x1440 monitors instead of 1920x1080, but do understand that it's a bump in price for only about 30% gain in resolution.

It will rek your GPU but it gives you more workspace.

I'm upgrading to 24" 2k monitor, if it doesn't get lost in the post again I'll let you know if it was a good idea.

Before memearrows I got it since 24" is big enough, i'm going to move soon and this monitor has really good colors and contrast, something I value because I also do 2d. Also pixel density is good for gaming and sims
