Poser is mostly pre-made. It is intended to pull up a model, pose, in whatever scene you want, and render.
Drag and drop any figure from the library into a scene. Drag, and drop specific clothing, pose, and go.

YouTube can be your friend.

yes there vids are great
better quality than most youtube videos
>>
>>498363
Poser is about to come up with a newer version with more features. Should have held out, but at least an upgrade is usually cheaper.

Don't start with Poser. You won't learn anything from the experience really. You don't learn to model in it. And animating in it is like trying to eat tomato soup using chopsticks.

Just download the free educational version of Maya and start learning.

Nothing to be ashamed of in buying a product you enjoy. It rewards the company to produce better.
>>
>>498404
Depends on what OP wants. If to create your own do Maya, but if you're interested in the images for whatever - advertizing, previsualization, simple animation, comics then Poser is a good start.

Some of us don't want to spend weeks, or months working on one image. Especially for diagrams, previz and such.

>Just download the free educational version of Maya and start learning.

Thanks. I have a week to visualize characters in a workplace setting for a presentation at work and I'm sure I'll be able to model, rig and texture them along with clothing, furniture and hair after watching some YouTube videos and asking lots of questions here.

I'm grateful you kept me from using some commodity tool full of shortcuts. Teach a man to fish as they say.

Teyon's a better sculptor than the random fucks SM picked in the past, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope.

I'm sure he is an excellent sculptor, but it is my worry that the team at SM whose tendency of being enslaved to politically correctness groupies that can affect the final product.

People don't like marginalizing beauty but all you have to do is type "pretty face" into google image search, and it will provide many examples to narrow a concise answer.

Poser update?
Still waiting....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Try to imagine a dried corpse that has already turned to dust missing every opportunity to do anything with Halloween, Star Wars promotions while being hammered by competitor advertising for nearly 5 months.

I'll probably be dead by the time of the new release it presented to our eyes. This perpetual waiting period is sucking the life out of me.
My excitement waiting for the latest Poser, has worn off, and transforming more into ever increasing animosity again.

Yes, I could learn Maya, or Blender, but that is NOT what I want to do.

What does a company do when the competitors show off their goods for months? Remain quiet, hoping you don't mind being treated like a punished child told to stay kneeling quiet in a closet.

Count down timer starts now...

40 days since last word still waiting....

If you want to go on Renderosity's webchat and tell the people in beta they're not really using a beta, be my guest.

Will it be underwhelming, too little too late, really neat or none of the above? I don't fucking know.

> DAZ betur haet Pozur
Then use DS, and hope they get an even cooler dynamic clothing engine in 2017 when their current license expires. They probably will.

Competition's a good thing.

>Competition's a good thing.

Competition is good if you're able to provide actual competition. So far there has been no show of anything to the general online public while being stomped by competitor promotion.

This is not good.
There is an old -"Put up, or shut up." and so far they're doing the latter.

Can't say what the reaction will be with nothing to show.
So far this tactic suggests the same as promising water to a thirsty man trapped in an isolated desert. Certainly he will be pleased once or if he gets water, but you'll wonder if it is on the quality of the water, or just out of complete desperation happy to finally quench his thirst.

You do that, champ

At this point keeping up is what needs improvement. Twenty four month cycles might be too slow for today's rapidly changing 3d technology.
>>
>>498856
> I had no actual criticism

that's nice kid
>>
>>498858
Maybe it has to do mostly with the figures. Traditionally 2 (to 4) models are introduced every 2 years with an upgrade with some extra model once a year, maybe.

Meanwhile the competitor introduces a figure that expands every 2 months with lots of support, and options.

So with Poser introducing so few models after so long, with little support it remains a huge hit or miss, that leaves customers waiting 2 more years, or stick with the old V4 (created by the competitor in 2009) in the hopes that the next is more appealing.

Perhaps what is desperately needed is simple, more figures, or a figure that is offered a drastic modification every six months offering the customer more range.

Waiting 2 years for a new figure that didn't impress ends up being too long to wait.
>>
>>498866
> completely valid criticism

You have no argument from me. I think SM should buy out Project E assuming it's as far as Erogenesis claims it is and finish it.
>>
>>498921
>I think SM should buy out Project E assuming it's as far as Erogenesis claims it is and finish it.

I honestly cannot imagine that happening with the model being associated with computer generated erotica. Personally I would have no problem with such an idea as that would provide a model that offers something never done with any model, but seems unlikely given the PC attitude.

So I don't even know what the big deal about Project E is. You can mod Daz and Poser figures to have genitalia and orifices easily enough, and making custom figures in Maya or Blender is trivially easy (the technical aspects; good art is always a challenge) after you do it a few times.

Also, on the constant poser vs daz studio debate, I will always choose poser over daz, just because it has a traditional dopesheet and curves editor built right in. Little things like that daz nickels and dimes you to death for. Yeah, poser is expensive and daz is 'free', but once you buy all the stuff you need to give daz everything it needs, it certainly isn't free anymore.

Also, once and for all, if you use pre-rendered images from daz and/or poser to make sprites for a game, do you have to buy the game licenses? I researched that a lot in relation to daz, but there were -contradictory- answers from daz people on their own site.

>>499185
>, if you use pre-rendered images from daz and/or poser to make sprites for a game, do you have to buy the game licenses?

As far as I know with Poser is if you render it, you own that render, and anything you create with it.

>>499185
>don't even know what the big deal about Project E is.
Depends on the person. Some people are strongly against having any association with erotic, while others don't care. Most companies try to maintain a moderate unbiased stand disconnected from erotic content. It is purely up to the company. Since this relates to art, and a user's discretion I'd hope that is where the responsibility remains.

In the case of GND: Anastasia, Blackhearted gave away her genitalia morphing free on Renderosity. The same could be done with Project E, making it separate feature sold elsewhere. Although some people rather not having to increase a dial setting.
>>
>>499195
>some people rather not having to increase a dial setting

At the rate those people are consuming cocks, there will be none left to perpetuate the species.

Also, Renderotica should make their own app. Everything they need to do it is open source now. They could even build it on a fork of XNALara / XNA Posing Studio if they wanted.
I know that's impractical as fuck and will never happen, but I would love to see a company that unapologetically embraces the lewd get into the market with their own app.
>>
You know what? Fuck it. I know real 3d applications (Maya, ZBrush, Blender, Mudbox, 3D Coat, Silo, etc) and I think I am gonna get into making lewd art with my skills.

If I am going to go the DAZ or Poser route for quick base figures, what should I get? Do either of the programs do lewd especially well? What figures should I get and what accessories or whatever? Assume I know fuck all about either one.

tl;dr- want to make (good) lewd (that I can sell) with Poser/DAZ, wat do?
>>
>>499196
>At the rate those people are consuming cocks, there will be none left to perpetuate the species.

You're kind of mean. It has to do with morph creation. Building extra morphs from a zeroed setting is easier as it doesn't complicate adding other compiling morphs on top of others.

>>499196

Many people such as myself do not see erotic content as lewd. I see it as another form of art. When sculptors in the old stone craving days made male or female nude figures it was up to that person creating their art to decide.
Why can't people be allowed to decide for themselves? Think of it as buying a car, with extra feature you do not have to use, if you don't want it.

Also, if you have a problem with seeing nudity, stop undressing yourself from now on, or remove your eyes from your head.
>>
>>499202

I think you misunderstood. I enjoy erotica, 3d as well as other types. I was using lewd as a silly meme buzzword tat originated on some other board, maybe /a/ or something. I wouldn't mind if someone made outright porn with CG, as a lot of people do. I'm not really sure how wires got crossed on that one. I guess the comment read as sarcastic or something.

>You're kind of mean.
Fair enough.
>>
>>499206
>I'm not really sure how wires got crossed on that one.

Me either. Sorry for the misunderstanding. As for porn, I don't mind it, but it is not my main interest. I when it comes to full human anatomy I want it as true to the real as possible.

Most people are exciting about Project E because of the kind of bending that ironically might not have ever been considered unless it were by someone working in erotic content.

For, instance you might have wanted figures that looked more real with people sitting, squatting, and moving but some were content with the standing poses. It took someone such as Erogenesis, whose using it, posing the figures to come to the conclusion that there is room for improving how the models work.
You seem to think there should be separate app venues, but I'd suggest that everyone benefits when working together to create most life like human anatomy.

We end up with better results when people compete to create the most life like model instead of competing to separate. When the goal is - best human representation, that is the better game to fight for. If also helps push the people in the higher end modeling programs to do more.

The point is that when representing human accuracy is the competition, we all win with every platform.
>>
>>499198
The point is: the more accessible a more human mimic in function model is across more apps the better.
>>
>>499185
>I don't even know what the big deal about Project E is.
Genitalia is a tenth of it, and carefully rigging a good successor to V4 that's built to current Poser's rigging capabilities is the remaining 90%. It's taking forever because the developer wants to make it perfect out of the gate.
>>
>>499198
>want to make (good) lewd (that I can sell) with Poser/DAZ, wat do?
Lurk on Renderotica and look at what sells.
>>
>>499375
>It's taking forever because the developer wants to make it perfect out of the gate.
Plus, waiting on Poser to release the update that would fix bugs instead of building work-arounds into the model.
>>
Still nothing on an update. No planned release date, no mention of anything from SM about Poser in over a month.
>>
>>499578
Yes, still nothing.
>>
>>499668
Indeed, nothing still.
>>
>>499578
>Still nothing on an update

> We've added a tool to automatically adjust the rigs of weight-mapped figures for drastic morphs. So if you want to make a troll morph out of a super model you can. Once you morph the figure just use the Adjust Centers to Morph command and it will match the centers and create all the code to make those centers follow the morph. For clothing to match these figures all you need is the matching morph and to enable the Follow Origins setting. There's literally nothing else to set up.
>>
>>500187
>So if you want to make a troll morph out of a super model you can.

Since all of the SM models resemble trolls I would need to do the opposite, make a troll into a super model.

OP box pic related. Look at that face. >>498363
