Pic related is a dilapidated body shop right around the corner from a local naval support facility. The place is mostly open air now because the roof caved in sometime back, haven't had the chance to go inside yet.
This was at one point an insurance agency. Ever since a much bigger and structurally sound building went up 2 miles away they closed this down and nobody in the area has shown interest in buying it to this day. I'd try going in there but there is way too much activity happening around there during the day and night.
Also I have a question for more experienced urbexers; how do you normally go about searching for and exploring abandoned places like these without getting into any legal disputes/confrontations? Do secluded areas work better? Maybe going at night while using long exposure mode/flash on a camera in order to get photos?
I've done a lot of exploring, mostly at KPPC. You can see some of the videos below:

I did urban exploracion twice, the first time was in an abandoned sports centre and then in an old factory.
Both times were in holidays like new years eve to make sure no one is going to be arround.
I always bring a knive with myself in case i need it for technical reasons or self-deffence, you dont know what you are going to find in that kind of places.
I always go at night and I study the place before entering into it, I dont wanna et caught by the cops or get in trouble with some vagabounds.
Im planning on going to an old military hospital and entering entering through the
sewerage system but this is going to be very hard the most risky one.
I try to use my torch as less as possible to make sure I dont get caught, I only use it for places without windows and without moon light.
PD: Sry for the possible grammar mistakes, Im still learning english.

Dude if you have more videos upload them, they are amazing
>>17688440
To be honest man, if you know there's going to be an even slight risk of getting caught by police, then I wouldn't bring your own weapon if I were you since you can be charged much worse than you would be without it.
When first finding somewhere you'll need to check the area for anything like cameras, guards or any passerbys then you move on to finding an entrance (best if you find one rather than make one)
Also if you feel threatened use something you fount in the area to be your weapon and begin to carefully scope out the area for anything and don't let your guard down till everything is clear with you.
Lastly do not take anything, again you'll just be adding to possible offences you may be charged with.

Thanks, glad you like them. I have three or four more I can put up, but they're not as good as the ones that are already there. No fancy intros or music.

It's just a slightly longer version of The Mad House. Longer because I left in more boring stuff, nothing good there that isn't in the other one.

Seconding this. All good advice.

Love them put up the others
>>17689172
Sure, but it'll take a while. I'm going to wait a couple of hours for everyone to go to bed so I can upload without causing problems for them, then I'll start. In the mean time, there's always the flickr albums. Pic related.

from the small uploading to youtube experience, i suggest converting to webm before uploading, things go much faster that way

Where do you find all these great places man?
I live near pic related. It's a hosptial, abandoned in 2008. The oldest section was built pre- ww1, and the newest in the 90s. I have a few pictures saved, and if anyone can think of a way to do it, I'm willing to live-stream me going inside from my iphone, as soon as tomorrow night (eastern time)
Alright, here's the first of four new uploads. This one was a crisis/isolation unit for patients.

Almost everything is from the same place: Kings Park Psychiatric Center. It's an urbex playground, with dozens of buildings still standing. The only downsides are that it's a really well-known and therefore heavily vandalized place, and the security that patrols it. We haven't been caught, but they seem to have been stepping up their game lately, especially since they're in the process of demolishing some of the buildings.
Here's a great resource on the place if you want pictures and more information:
http://www.kppchistory.com/index.htm
The links on the left and right sides will allow you to look up most of the buildings, past and present, and learn what they were for. Pic related is a map of the place.
Ascension Hospital = Building 7, Medical
The Mad House = Building 15, Criminally Insane
September = The Quads, or 41-43/Group IV, Female/Geriatric
Ice Cream Demon = Building 44, Storehouse
Isolation = Building 140, Crisis Housing
136 = 136, of course. The OLD medical building
Apartments & Basements = Buildings 18 & 19, Staff Housing
The Doctor's House = Pretty much what it sounds like

It's all a hosptial. Served most of the area for a long time, but the halls were too narrow, and there weren't enough beds, so they moved to a newer, bigger facility. It has about five sections each built at different times, with obviously different architecture now. It's suffering water damage on the inside, with one level completely flooded, and the one above it, (pic related) six inches deep in water. Heavy vandalism as well, and an arson case last week that caused some minor exterior damage.
>>17690321
Interesting, hope the stream goes well. If it's doable, you should consider going during the day at some point, for easier picture taking.

I was in an old administrative building of a disused mine, sadly it has been torn down later.
>>17691409
it had quite soviet-ish atmosphere in it
>>17691413
but overall, nothing interesting has happened
>>17691416
but I was 15 back then, so it has been quite spoopy anyway.
No.Eu. urbex here. Have lots of post-soviet stuff abandoned. But pic-related is somewhat strange. It was once a leisure-activity club for the workers of textile and machinery manufacture, where they played in theater, made movies, wrote books and had sports activities. The manufacture itself is partly-used and bought by a private investor, yet, this building is a 4 storey brick compex, 2-3 time "built over", you can clearly see it, stand on their ground and is NOT used. And it is also conserved as you can see. Been in there several times and there's just NO FUCKING LIGHT. Yet it has this eerie feel of cultural ghosts being there - several people died there already after the abandence and there was also a part-time court session over 2 soviet rapist schoolchildren, both dead now. AFAIK, suposedly haunted, Yet I haven't met a geist in there.

there's something really calming about old abandoned buildings. it's just pretty to look at, you know?
i was once at an abandoned place called Kings Park, it was an abandoned psych center. i went into a burnt out laundry mat on premises and threw on my respirator. Inside was untouched and moldy, i then continued into the basement which i then fell threw the floor. i found some cool medical papers and equipment that i took. My advice is to watch your step, wear heavy boots, and watch you're footing

You gonna do a write up? Sewer system entry sounds p nasty but also v cool
>>17698820
There's actually a good number of dedicated groups to this, the UK has a very healthy community. But it has declined somewhat since they made squatting illegal

There was an old ROF site I always wanted to visit but by the time I was old enough to really consider it the place was pretty much all gone. Most of my family worked there, would have been interesting. Probably would've gotten caught anyway though.

Any one in nm know of any good places, I've been trying to get into urbex but other than some dinky ghost towns waaay out in the middle of no where I can't really find anything. And any tips on where to look to find places? I was just thinking of driving around
I always go at day time if it's near houses - people often report lights & shit. It depends on the place, how you look etc.
Dress plainly but normally. If you don't look notable people won't notice you entering.
Always, always closed toed shoes.
Invest in any form of slr camera - even a shit one. Having a clunky, fancy looking camera can get you out of some major fines "I was just taking photos" normally gets me out of any trouble - note, I am in Australia and a girl- these things probably matter.
Avoid times when punk kids might be around - avoid areas that look like they house the homeless at night - moat of the time if you keep a wide birth between you and there clear base, you get left alone.
Never run - always walk slowly and lightly on wood - follow floor beams and whatnot.
Shit moat of this is probably fucking useless, i tried.
>>17699690

Story time.
>my friends and i went on a road trip to celebrate birthday
>driver wants a stupid ass gimmick by putting a blindfold on
>we drive for about three hours (while blindfolded for me)
>we arrived at a campsite
>campsite was shit but doable
>we set up camp which took the whole afternoon
>night time
>mosquitoes fucking everywhere
>drank too much water and told friend i'd take a piss
>went off outside bringing flashlight
>trekked for about three to five minutes to find a suitable tree to unload
>take my sweet ass time to piss
>anon hears something in the bushes
>anon checks it (while still peeing)
>flashlight that shit
>saw these two shining red orbs adjacent to each other embedded in the bushes
>i lose my shit and run while dick is out
>i hear a howl that did not sound like any other animal i know
>fumble with zipper and reach camp site
>told my friends what i saw and they thought i was crazy
Never going camping again.
I'm new to the whole thing; had my first adventure a few days ago. I live near a university which has an extensive steam tunnel system. A couple friends and I went down on Friday to check it out. There was some cool stuff, but we never got to see this large graffiti painting of Jesus that we were looking for. Going to try again soon and go into a different grate.

"call me ranch cause i be dressin"
>find a cool abandoned mental hospital near my home
>explore it one time with some friends
>pretty cool, creepy as fuck too
>find a room filled with mirrors on three of four walls
>no idea what that room was used for
>a little spooked, venture elsewhere
>get access to the basement, chairs scattered randomly throughout underground passageways
>decide to leave eventually, want to do more exploration
>end up returning to the hospital multiple times
>other people begin to check it out
>they're not so interested in exploring, more so in breaking shit and making noise
>since it's near some houses a lot of noise complaints are made
>we go back one time at night
>friend mentions hearing footsteps outside
>gets called out on his bullshit
>about five minutes later we hear noises coming from the window we came in through
>turn back to check it out
>dude standing there, light beams through the window
>fucking police
>end up getting arrested and spending some time in the cells
That was the last time I went urban exploring. Sorry for the boring story but it's one of the few I have. Be careful out there, try not to make too much noise.
Pretty sure I'll go out exploring again some time but I really don't want to get arrested again. I think my friend has some cool photos of the abandoned chairs in the basement, potentially the mirror room too. I'll try see if I can get a hold of them tomorrow morning if this thread is still alive.
>>17703196
People are way too reserved (guess that's the word) in my neighborhood yet we have some spooky spaghetti everywhere. I could go at 3am on a Tuesday morning into an abandoned house right down the street that isn't lit and somebody will still end up seeing me and call the cops.
I've considered taking the legal route before but law enforcement won't get back me about local laws the couple of times I have asked them. I tell them I'm a small time photographer too to make the situation sound less sketchy, but still not a word from anybody.
bump
anyone ever been to SFNO? I know it's risky but damn do I want to see that
this thread's really putting me in the mood to try out exploring. Not pic related though, I can only imagine it would be a death sentence to a newbie like me.
Only thing in my home town is a abandoned winery that the roof caved in on. It's next to the lake and next to a old abandoned butchery building from the same era. Went there a bunch a times during the day and went there once at night was pretty spookie since its in the middle of no where and a miles walk out towards it. Homeless people call it home some times and gang bangers party there often.
There's an old hospital complex ~30 miles from my hometown. It's like 6 stories and has multiple wings. We heard squatters moving around and there was some pretty creepy graffiti. The city built a new hospital and didn't have the money to destroy the old facility. Indiana has a lot of abandoned shit; it's a poor state.
>>17704687
More for this. It's located in Ukiah California. Not much to check out around here. I wanna find more things to explore though.

Story
Now
>>17707210
The story behind the place is that some patient killed like 5 people, got out then killed a few more at a diner. That was in like 2005. The place is said to be haunted and me and my friends went up there one night and got in. Did a lot of exploring saw some cool areas but the only thing spooky I saw was that we were all exiting a room and I was the last one out and I heard someone walking on the paper on the ground behind me and then like a bang on the wall kinda thing. Pretty creepy experience but all around awesome.

What gear does everybody usually take? Some photographers/filmmakers out there that take a crapload of equipment?
>>17712548
Some take a lot, but you really don't need to. Just bring a backpack with snacks and a bottle of water, a flashlight, and you'll probably want a respirator. This is the one I use:
http://www.amazon.com/3M-Facepiece-Respirator-6291-Particulate/dp/B000FTEDMM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1463747775&sr=8-5&keywords=3m+respirator
If you're looking to take pictures, just make sure your camera has manual control. You're going to need a tripod, and a camera that allows you to control shutter speed. Most cameras will, even a point-and-shoot. For example, >>17686734 was actually taken in a really dark hallway, but it was a 30-second exposure. Unless it's pitch-black, a tripod will allow you to get noiseless shots with no motion blur in almost any area.
