1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

Yes, no, yes. Zen can be contrived garbage depending on the lineage. The oldest Buddhist tradition based on the earliest written scriptures has a very lucid, straightforward approach to enlightenment, whereas Zen can have a lot of pointless obstacles in the way (though, like i said, that depends on the lineage/tradition).
