Iron, traditionally because it was said to bring good luck and had positive qualities. Back in the day ( well...the iron age. Obviously) it was the best metal that you could get to make weapons, armor, horse shoes, and so on. The idea that it warded off evil probably spawned from that. dude meets a really creepy tall thin dude named Nic who works as a mortician or some shit.
Nic doesn't talk to anyone really except for this guy. One night Nic takes this dude out into the middle of BFE (midwest) and parks the car, kills the lights. They see creatures walking back and forth under a lamp light. Nic says it's totally normal, comes there to watch them.

They went and explored an abandoned building and something fucking insane (they say it's a demon or some shit) recognizes Nic and adresses him by name.
After, dude is like super freaked out and asks Nic to level with him what is going on. Nic never really explains who he is, where he comes from, or how he knows any of this but he has a ton of knowledge of the occult and similar subjects.
Dude gets redpilled by this Nic, who agrees to level with him when they go places to check out spoopy shit.
The majority of this text highlights some of their adventures and the creatures they saw, creepy shit Nic did/said. Apparently the dude visited a prophet and has reason to believe he's going to die soon, so he decided to share with the public.
He worked with Nic so closely and for such a length of time that he took on the position that Nic also had. Nic alluded to being part of a very, very old group of individuals called "watchers" scattered throughout the globe that serve the purpose of keeping all things occult and crypto in check. Basically what it seems like is he makes visits to different creature's territories and kinda keeps shit in order, when it comes down to it. This dude goes on to talk in a seemingly familiar manner about the monsters and things that go bump in the night that he deals with.
Really great read, I recommend it.
