I have good reason to believe a friend of mine is possessed and i wish to perform an exorcism.
Any advice
Contact a Catholic Priest as they are the only ones able to handle this situation properly since they are the only official members of Gods one true Church and he will point you in the right direction. Most likely you'll end up talking to a Bishop or an ArchBishop. Where do you live?

She got involved in magic about a year and a half ago. Shortly after that she developed depression and started shutting down. I was worried about her but she said she was fine.

Do not use the conventional tricks of salt, signs, ancient languages. These will not help you. If what you're against is a demon, trust me when I say they've spent years tricking people into thinking being a wannabe magician is the way to kill/get rid of them.
Do some things, first. It would be good to clarify its not a demon - it may be a parasite of some kind. Check on her while she sleeps, make sure she breathes evenly - for best results, make sure she's cold while she sleeps. Feed her hot food. Try and get her to exercise. Keep her healthy, but ensure that her immune system and body is under stress, constantly. Any creature dislikes when its host's body doesn't supply it the nutrients it needs. Whatever it is, it will soon manifest somehow. From there, take proper steps to get rid of it.

Check on her while she sleeps to assure there are or aren't irregularities in her breathing, keep her cold, serve her hot, nutritional food, make sure she gets exercise, get her to walk around and talk to people. Keep pressure on the immune system, but ensure she stays at full health. The demon should then play its cards and try and drain the host's body desperately. At this point, starve her and ensure she does not sleep. If the demon isn't gone after a day or two after realizing the host is becoming too weak, then you should begin worrying, but I doubt that's the case here.
If the first step doesn't work because the demon makes her refuse, then use as much force as possible or necessary. Violence is always a last resort with demons, because it's very likely it'll come to possess you, too.

The friend i speak of is an ex. We were together for 5 years but i was young and foolish and didnt realize what i had and didn't work at the relationship like i should have. I can only speak honestly from my own experience. After I asked to be saved I felt released from a pointless hierarchy and existence. I read the new testament with the presupposition of truth and with awakened eyes (the key is not to reject outright but discern afterwards). After this I searched for a place to be. Protestants are too weak in faith and lack. Roman Catholicism made my soul uneasy. I found my home in the Orthodox church it is rigid but not dogmatic in its logic and focuses primarily on mysticism and union with God so that we may be as God.
As for spiritual practice or meditation I suggest attempting the Jesus prayer. "Lord Jesus Christ (son of God), have mercy on me (a sinner)" first clause in breath, second on out. This stills the mind from intruding thoughts similar to mantra meditations but focuses on the One Who Is. A rope helps to keep count mechanically and helps focus the mind. Believe it or not a general google search will provide more depth than I can offer here.
Lastly, do not accept images or visions. They may be there to tempt you. If God truly wants you to have it you will bot have a choice.
