can we get an alternate reality game thread going?

Everyman hybrid was/is a cool one

Here's the nightmind explanation:

https://youtu.be/L-0gD2jU98Y

Plus they got a great taste in music
>>
How come I only ever really see something like this on /x/, and rarely ever a different variant somewhere else?
Seems like it'd be a fun way to kill some time, and I'm usually pushed away from visiting /x/ for so many reasons, so I end up missing out on stuff like this.
>>
>>17731192
Check out nightmind, he's pretty cool and is usually up to speed with that kinda stuff
>>
>>17731200
You got it. Because this stuff seems genuinely pretty interesting.
>>
Erratas had me hooked. I'm curious if it's over or ended prematurely or if we'll get a "season 2" or what. First ARG I've seen in a while that actually hinged on player involvement instead of just being a youtube series or a shitty binary code thing.
>>
>>17731200
I second the Nightmind recommendation, he's great. A lot of his explained series last over an hour. Many times they have multiple parts.
>>
>>17731249
His marble hornets series was great
>>
>>17731247
Where can I find it?
>>
>>17731476
Right now the main central sources of "clues" (which I use loosely since they're pretty abstract and we're not entirely sure of what the story truly is) are the Tod Ellsworth twitter (@ErratasOrBust), the ChronosForLife youtube, and the KFC Murder Chicks tumblr which also leads to their soundcloud. A lot of the what's going on involves clues hidden in music.

>Grassroots ARGs tend to be shit.

While I can see a lot of truth in that, it's sort of saying that Corporations are the good guys here, in fact the only legit providers. Regular people should keep quiet, watch TVs and wait for Big Businessmen to supply them with entertainment? That kind of flows from the other anons insistence that 'children' are getting in the way by even discussing ARGs.

Great ARG film: "The Institute"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2386327/

Film is about the great Granddaddy of all ARGs. Way bizarre. Film starts with an interview of two flaming street loons for some reason. Ignore them, once they're gone film kicks into gear.

I know the EMH guys (Jeff mostly). I admit I haven't talked with them in awhile.

If you're wondering why it's taking so long to update, it's mostly because they all have lives and shit. Jeff isn't really involved anymore so he was
killed off in the series
, it's mostly just Vince and Evan running things. You can find updates here:

https://www facebook com/vinnieeveryman/?fref=ts
>>
>>17738336
I used to be pretty involved in the Slenderverse when it was it's most active. You can ask me anything if you want, I have plenty stories about creators and might know why your favorite series isn't updating.
>>

Those girls are some of the coolest people I've met. There real names are Tatiana (TJ) and Aimee (Amy).

They had a bunch of bag things happen them when making TJA Projects and their attempts to make sequels. Tati's brother was a drug addict living with them when making the series (I heard got clean so that's nice). They also got CPS called on them when they showed how messy their apartment was in their videos and showed Tati's daughter (They thought Tati and Aimee were a lesbian couple, which wasn't true).

They also had some backlash when they made that video using footage that showed Aimee's stepdad shooting a (off-screen) dog that had rabies (an actual thing that happened that they used for their series).

Also, Tati dated that guy Xakk (still don't know if that was his actual name or not) from that 5zer02 series they crossed over with. Xakk was apparently engaged with Aimee also way before Slender Man was a thing but it was broken off. Xakk and his friends actually started a series not knowing his ex was also doing one.

After their series ended they we're going to move in with this guy who was in the Slenderverse (Forget his name, I didn't really know him before this incident) and start a new series. He turned out to be this crazy stalker who tried to attack them, Tati had to get a gun and take down some videos for safety reasons.

1/2
>>
>>17738810
2/2

Other then that, I their pretty much done with the Slenderverse. Tati from what I remembered doesn't really care for TJA Projects and doesn't want to revisit it. Have no idea about Aimee's feelings.

They lived with each other for awhile after. Tati got pregnant again with a different guy and they got married. Last I heard she was living a good life making decent money managing a strip club.

Aimee got a boyfriend and moved to Portland.

Other facts:

Tati had a bad break-up with Xakk and trashed his series a few times.

Tati was apparently going to be on 16 and Pregnant but was apparently too good of a mother for the producers.

I heard rumors that Tati and Aimee both fucked Evan from EMH (Not a threeway, separate times).

Also, this:

>>
>>17738808
Sorry about that dude, although the height of Slenderverse popularity had a lot of annoying drama (Especially Adam, who deserved none of it).

Adam definitely wants to finish the series and has an ending planned. I don't know how close were to it, but I think we are starting going towards a finale soon.

Adam is going to medical school, which is why updates take so long. Setting up a patreon was a good idea I think, gives him more incentive to finish the series.

https://www.patreon.com/tribetwelve?ty=h
>>
>>17738863
Also Night Mind did kind of revive some interest in the Slenderverse although he says he's going to stop covering them for now (until the big series update/finish), so that's kind of dead now.
>>
>>17738867
I do wonder if Night Mind was active in the Slenderverse during it's height under a different username. I don't remember him if he did. I don't know his real name, does anyone here?
>>
>>17738867
Yeah, Night Mind was what got me into it after I found his channel by chance. Always kinda scoffed at it before.

Do you have any stories on the MH guys? They seem so disconnected from the rest of the creators, almost as if they think they're too good for them
>>
>>17738899
That's true, they kind of were like that, although more of wanting to do their own thing rather then being "too good". They even called their Slenderman "The Operator" and prefered that, I think mostly for copyright reasons. I talked with them a few times (I wonder if they still accept friend requests from anyone on FB) and they seemed somewhat nice.

I'm guessing you guys all heard about the big break-up of THAC?

http://forums.thac.tv/forum/news-and-updates/159236-why-tim-and-joseph-left-thac

>>
>>17738947

Tim went from being this guy who quoted stuff from /b/ to being a huge Zoe Quinn-supporting SJW.

This fucking thing is what made me want to start making an ARG in the first place. The initial shock, the intrigue, the searching for clues to find out what's really going on, this is the stuff I want to do.
>>
>>17738899
Yeah, I turned up my nose at EMH until I decided to watch NightMind, and found SIX HOURS of thorough analysis.

>>17738947
>>17738970
I don't feel like reading huge walls of drama, so can I get a tl;dr on this situation?
>>
>>17739389
THAC was met to be co-owned by all the MH guys, but at first started as being only owned by Troy because too much paperwork.

Clear Lakes 44 starts and people become disappointed, patreon money starts going down. Troy just had a baby so he starts using company funds for family stuff behind the others back. Troy makes decisions that the others don't want because "sole owner", including bringing in the new guy Noah who Joseph and Tim don't really want.

Tim and Joseph eventually find out and quit, forcing Troy to cancel Clear Lakes 44 and breaking up THAC.

Troy claims he will reboot Clear Lakes and start a new production company (Like anyone will work with him again).
>>
>>17739502
For those who forgot:
Troy=Jay
Joseph=Alex Kralie
Tim=Tim/
Masky
And Noah was that unfunny new guy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teFDceSyDdY
>>
>>17739514
That was so painful, I had to stop it
>>
>>17739514
But to be honest, many people we're disappointed with the MH guys long before this.

The second season of Marble Hornets was okay, but left people disappointed. The third season was even worse, it dragged on for three years with so much filler episodes and a bad ending people outright hated Marble Hornets by then.
Then definitely should've just stuck with the minimal plot of season 1 and shouldn't have tried to bring character dramas, they were bad actors.

The guys also changed, I think fame went to their heads and they definitely let fanboys/fangirls produce their ego (especially on tumblr).

Their newer videos definitely start going downhill, their funny sketches became Tim and Eric rip-offs and the new guy Noah who was seemingly brought in for no reason threw off the guys natural chemistry.

I never participated in Marble Hornets, but WAS it an ARG? Was there any viewer participation or input? Puzzles? Places to go? Just watching a story on YouTube isn't an ARG, there's no 'game' aspect.
>>
>>17739596
The totheark videos had many puzzles you had to solve and try to see what they met. The Night Mind videos show you how it was done.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_sACgfX50g
>>
>>17739596
Puzzles, yes. totheark's videos contain crazy hidden codes, one of the earliest videos was only just recently cracked
>>

>>
>>17739648
>>17739650

>>
>>17739661
Here, or other websites. There's people (like Night Mind) who'll post on new ARG's.

Unfiction was good too but no really uses it anymore (Like every 00's forum).
>>
Ok cool, second question. How do you get started on this? I get the general gist (may be spelling that wrong) but can you give me some tips?
>>
>>17739674
What do mean? Like trying to crack codes?
>>
>>17739674
Google.
>>
>>17739666
The main channel is just a spoopy webseries for the most part, totheark is the one with puzzles. The only real puzzle element of the main channel is trying to figure out where all the pieces of the story fit together. A lot of videos are uploads of unmarked tapes with no context, and a lot of things are left up to viewer interpretation.
>>
No, I get the ciphers and stuff, I also understand the spectrogram stuff. Im mainly asking just for any info in general. Get as much as you can right?
>>
>>17739693
Usually a thread on a forum should be setup to keep track of things.
>>
Reddit's ARG page is where everyone that just learned about ROT13 or base64 goes. N00bs make a coded message or a 'spooky' video & dump it there saying "I just FOUND this" -- it's mostly low quality junk, but a constant supply of it. They must get three new ones a day, day in day out. Just mentioning for completeness' sake:

I was one of Night Mind's first thousand subs, and he's my favorite youtuber. HOWEVER. He's a little bit of a tumblrfag. It just annoys me because he'd be so welcome here. He also has a tendency to overreact to potentially anxiety-inducing things. Example: in his video about the Wyoming Incident ARG, he strongly emphasized how "dangerous" the ritual it involves is/was when in reality it contains nothing harmful. Worst it could do is an anxiety attack if you're weak-minded as hell.

Yeah m8 he is just goofin' us. The wyoming incident is very interesting but sadly is mostly forgotten. My biggest question is what went on with the happy cube website before the ARG existed. >>
>>17740766
I think ARGs spawn mostly fun, but every once in a while someone takes it too far. I'm probably too old to get into them like most of you but ARGs seem to lose steam really fast. Hell even watching Night Mind's videos explaining them become very tedious, much less waiting days or weeks for the next piece. Sorry for not being clear, I wanted to make one, not watch. I've already seen CL44 and the golden age of MH

I think a light ARG is pretty Marble Hornets, pretty much stay on one website, Youtube, and make videos that contain cryptic mysteries for viewers to solve.
>>
Whoever's sittin' back spitting personal information about folks in the 'verse should probably not. That's a whole messy can of worms no one really wants opened.

Does this count as an ARG? I don't see it discussed anywhere except on some german site. They thought it was a real thing. Apparently the info they saw came from a website that no longer exists, and this channel started kicking new stuff out.

Anybody know anything about "Verite Komplika"?

There was an OP on here a few days ago who was posting about a new ARG called "The Remnants of PL4YGRND", and he just uploaded the first video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKmev9pkoSc
It makes zero sense and it seems like he's trying to do the whole, "this guy's crazy and thinks he's surrounded by people when he's really alone" thing.

Probably not the best place to post your own project. You should wait until it really starts going (Like episode 6 EMH).
>>
>>17751298
Hi Jeff
>>
>>17752109
Not my project, but I was one of the 34 people that the creator whored it out to who subscribed.
>>
>>17752109

Circular dysfunctional reasoning there, "Don't tell anyone about your project until everyone knows about it."
>>
>>17752258
I don't mean that, no paid attention to EMH until episode 6 cause that's when shit starts happening. And I'm not against posting your own work (As long as you're not shilling, I would pretend to be another member). Just show off your work when you are at least a few episodes deep, don't just upload episode 1 and start spamming it everywhere.
>>
>>17751317
>>17752109
Considering the date of the videos and the fact that there's evidence this thing's been around a long while, I don't think they were plugging and running.
>>

>This guys got it right. EMH kind of faked everyone out at first by being an intentionally shitty MH knock off but a few episodes in there was a big OH SHIT moment that made the unfiction forums explode. Unfortunately if you only begin watching now youll miss out on a lot of the more "interactive" things that happened in the series like emailing the characters and getting packages in the mail. Also no one who makes slenderman ARGs knows how to fucking end them apparently.
>>
This brings me to another quandary about making an ARG, or pretty much anything

How will anyone find it? How do I generate interest? I don't like to be that shill who goes around pretending to be someone else and go "hm this is secres pls follow"
>>
>>17755928
Look around unfiction, they have an anonymous submission function in there somewhere. Then they look at what you suggest and decide to act on it, or ignore you. They're pretty picky, they don't deal in quantity.

reddit's /r/ARG on the other hand is where people dump every damn string of practice ROT13 they find. But you will get a lot eyes on your project.
