Can any /x/philes help me identify this structure I found in the woods? I have reason to suspect it's some sort of gate...or that it's at least a sealed entry to a bigger structure, perhaps an ossuary...as I've found what I believe are human remains nearby as well. My gf has been plagued by nightmares of this thing ever since the night we found it, and I'll admit it gives me the chills as well. Any thoughts, /x/?

The structure in OP is next to, but not connected to, two other small abandoned buildings that were left to ruin in the woods as well - all that remains of them is their stone foundation. But they look younger than the Arch itself.

It feels like a morgue inside the thing - I had pressure on my chest like I was at the bottom of a stagnant pond. As much as I'd like to know what's behind the wall, I'd like to do so and still be able to keep whatever is behind it, behind it, if I need to.

Others have tried, behind the wall of stone and mortar lies a second wall of loose stone. The others have punched holes in the first wall but nobody has penetrated the second. It's worth mentioning on the hillside behind this Arch, there are holes that seem to lead straight down as if for ventilation, but I can't confirm this as I don't know how deep the holes go.

Here's a pic of a hole in the wall

Even if I had a small enough camera, like a Go-Pro, I couldn't shove it through the second layer of rocks that are stacked behind the wall.. personally I'm slightly unsettled by the fact there's loose stone stacked behind mortared stone. How would you go about building that when the loose stones lean against the sturdy mortared ones?

The first time we found the Arch, it was night time. By the glow of our flashlights, it looked as though there were runes or incantations scratched into the stones. Returning by daylight, I couldn't find them. But I know they were there at nightfall. Here's a better pic of the Wall itself.

I'm not looking to vandalize the thing, I just want to know if anyone has ever seen or heard of a structure like this and why it would exist here. Is it an ossuary entrance?

It's gotta be at least 100 years old, and if my local knowledge on field stone masonry is accurate, at least 150+ years. Why would they build a shelter for wild animals into a cliff face that they would have had to dig out by hand in that day and age?

It may also be worth mentioning the structure sits on a trail in the woods - said trail was a road way back when that has fallen into decay and is now one of several such roads in the woods that vehicles are banned on. Further down this road are more ruined houses - there was once a small town of at least a dozen houses down here.

Since the thread has slowed down I may get out of bed and go back to the woods today so I have more stuff to post tomorrow. But I'm just curious as to what this Arch is, I can find a meaning for all the other ruins I find...except this one. Be back later, /x/.

That's not a hunters nest. A hunters nest or stand will be made of wood and high up, and is camouflaged. no one would spend that much time digging into a hill or making a wall.
and if that's 150 years old then it's not an animal shelter because they didn't make those back then, and if they did then it wouldn't be a huge stone structure.
my guess is that it's a barrow. the second wall layer is the main chamber where the bodies are, the place you go in would be where people might leave gifts or presents outside.

my guess is homesteaders may have lived here a while back. they may have buried some people there, but had to leave for some reason, and their house and barrow fell into disrepair.
I'm getting a bad feeling from that, OP, so be careful and don't disrespect the dead.

OP here, hadn't considered this but doesn't outrule the structure behind the wall nor the bones

Bottom of the opening littered with probably 100+ broken bottles and pottery. I found the iron rod from earlier pictures still lodged in the Wall (an iron key?) So I pulled it out and photographed with gf. Lit a white candle for purification inside and let it burn as we left. Found old relics from the house's like shoes and such, took pics. On mobile at gf's now.

I had one like it growing up on an old farm in Missouri.

The vents are normal for them too.

Now as to what the cellar was used for (prolly food storage) I cant say of course.

That is a beehive coke oven. There should be more of them if you look. They are usually in a straight line with a small guage steel track in front of them (for a cart). You found what is part of an old coal mining operation. It is probably close in proximity to train tracks or at least a railroad bed. Look for signs of a coal mine nearby such as a mine face, ventilation shafts, old wheels ,gears etc There may be nothing metal left due to scrappers. That shit may date back to the 1870's or older.. Appalachian american here.
>>
Root cellar that someone has been living/squatting in. The bones are dear bones. The coal found in the crevasses would be put there to keep an ember hot and burning slowly for the better part of a day. It's faster then having to remake a fire. Most likely it's a old farm house so they did probably do their own iron work there.

OP here, posting more pictures from yesterday before I go to work. Ended up falling asleep after me and my gf hiked for 4 hours yesterday lol.

I don't believe it could have been coal related, as it's the only structure of this type in the area, and there are no railroads near here (though there are in the nearest town, there are none in the park).

A freezer is possible, and would explain the bottles and vents, but this building is completely detached from the others it's nearby.

I'm completely unsure at this point, however unfortunately I think these 3 buildings are on private property, as they aren't within the marked area for the county park entrance.

Resuming pic dump, here's one of the holes that lead down to the room behind the wall

We ended up hiking through the park for a good 4 hours hunting for more buildings like this - while we found more abandoned houses (As I think I've said before, along this unkept road turned trail in this park, there's probably a dozen abandoned and ruined houses all from the same era, why an entire town up and left/fell into ruin I have no idea, especially since the county park says nothing about it), the Arch remained unique. There's more area that I personally haven't explored, especially in the hills off the trail, and there's more pictures I haven't yet dumped, so I'm taking requests and questions as I can since I work tonight.

Here's an..odd footprint we found in a Grove by the pond where locals claim to see spirits floating in the water at night.

Ok OP I need you to answer a question what country region and/or county are you in literally any of these will help
Also as far as I can tell those scratch marks are vandalism from a third party as they are new and there is not any others
At the moment I can sus out three options
1) this was a part of a brook(a small flowing baby of water)
2) this was a dumping ground or burial tomb for a rich and fancy fag, unlikely but would explain bones
3) you have come across some serious mojo in the sense this could be the escape tunnels of a previously built house as most paranoid and powerful people had them as they were afraid of assassination/murder. These passages were blocked off either to stop easy access to the house and/or to disguise them. I.e. Loose bricks behind so it can easily be pushed over. Now this can be linked to murder, corruption, and injustice in that sense you have a potential (one a scale of 1-5) class 3 haunting on your hands
This is a long shot but still possible
I would suggest report this to the nearest priest/church, museum, and police department because of bones

These stand a chance of being human. First one does look like a human tibia. It's a bit large for a canine, maybe it could belong to a deer but I don't think so.

This could have just been a mausoleum of sorts once. Maybe as time went on it got broken open and the coffin was taken.

OP here, not dead.

I checked the property lines surrounding the Arch (I figured if it was in the County Park I'd say fuck it and take down the wall because public property and nobody would give a shit), but it's not in the park so I'm not sure I want to vandalize someone's property.

The Arch is on White Oak Road in Winterstown, Pennsylvania for anyone interested. Follow the road to where it turns grey (Maintenance Road 2?) and it's shortly before the end.

1) It's worth mentioning there IS a natural spring that runs almost through the two buildings nearby the Arch. Pic related.
2) As I've said, there is a small abandoned town of about a dozen buildings of similar age and style nearby.
3) Perhaps, but I'm a natural skeptic. In lieu of paranormal though, there was the Iron Rod stuck in the wall, which I removed. If the Rod was keeping anything paranormal locked inside, it'll be out by the time I return later today.

>>17575905
She hasn't had nightmares since we went back and got the pics I've been dumping.

>>17575971
Sounds tempting, in a few paychecks I might pick up a Go-Pro or something.

>>17576137
My biggest fears with knocking down the wall are compromising the structure and having those damn rocks fall on me (and if they're iron or granite like I think they are I don't think I'm getting out of that one easy) or that I'll be vandalizing private property, as I've said above.

>>17576167
If I could do more beyond taking a sledgehammer or my Jeep's bumper to it I would -_-

>>17577699
my Navy Bro says he thinks the bones are human, but needs to see them in person to confirm. I've stashed them under a pile of bricks so nothing/nobody else swipes them until I can get him to see them. He's seen combat in Somalia so I trust his word on human remains.

Any picture requests? I think I might be almost out until I go back today. I won't be able to stay long though, got a date night with the gf.

I hiked to the top of the hill the Arch is in and there are no remnants of anything further up the hill past it. I've tried explaining it away as a Basement Entrance, Furnace or Freezer/Cooler but it's detached from everything else around it, unless behind the wall actually GOES somewhere.

The orange stuff is actually all that's left of a POSTED sign, pic related w/ gf's boots.

@Whomever said this was an old spring house, that's untrue. Further along the abandoned road (Maintenance Road 2) I found more ruins. Here's a pic of a ruined springhouse.

The Iron Rod as I found it - lodged in the wall's biggest opening. It was so rusted and warped I had assumed it was a stick until I pulled it out.

A close up of the rod after I pulled it out. It rusted oddly, but I'm no metal expert so I can't 100% say anything else about it's condition or age. I'm also... completely unsure as to why it was in the wall(door?) in the first place.

Is it possible that it could be an old smokehouse? As in a room used to smoke meats and stuff.

It just looks like a hole, maybe a small cave-did you try exploring it, like a normal person who doesn't believe in bullshit would?. Only a crazy person would see a hole and describe it as a gateway. Your girlfriend has too much imagination, she's having nightmares about something completely normal. It's insane to be fearful of something so normal and simple.

OP I'm in the 717 area, in the township named after the first major tradesmen to work here back in the day. About as unimaginative name as can possibly be. They literally sat around and looked at eachother and said fuck it, let's just call it ********. Can you guess where it is?

Also I'm always down to go hike some creepy shit if you ever need a battle buddy. Want to exchange emails?
>>
>>17583397
Why not just give the OP your town name instead of being a faggot?
>>
>>17583397
DESU if you're planning for a meetup, it'd be easier to tell me which County of the 717 area you live in before we dig into Townships.

Personally I live in York County, live near Stewartstown. But yeah, e-mail will work for now.
