What do you bring on a paranormal investigation, innawoods exploration, or urban exploration?

Well OP you forgot to have a weapon of last resort. If the cryptid you're seeking is invulnurable to blade and bullet, you need a can of black spray paint. Spray it in the eyes and run like the fucking wind. I know I'll get laughed at for this post but seriously, think about it.
>>
NO food, drink, vape, ect, anything aminals will sniff up and want to eat you for, though water could be alright

a knife, mainly as a tool. I've used mine to cut snags from plants off my leg and as a pry

the right footwear, I wear Reebok compact boots with a composite toe anyway and those work for anything

a jacket, leather is best but carharts are great as well

you could have a flashlight but I don't say it;s necessary, learn to make your eyes adapt

matches or a lighter could be a think you might want, but dont need

a tape recorder could capture things

a hatchet could be useful

I'll be honest, not a whole lot aside from my city, forests, also some abandond buildings in said forest. There is an old abondoned asylum not too far from where I live. But it's very hard to get to. I'd love to check it out but I need comrades. Also things are happening to it, first, allegedly, it was being made into a movie set, now its being made up as a tourist trap thing. But I know of tunnels underneath, and there has to be some areas left untouched.

Anyways, sort of an urban legend but there's word of some crazy old guy with a gun on top of all the standard /x/ themes down there. Slamming doors, faces, sounds etc.

Fuck I wanna go there

Here's mine. Keep in mind I'm a poorfag in college who doesn't have a firearms license yet. Even once I do though I would most likely only add a sidearm to this loadout because it's meant for urban ex stuff. I keep this relatively light so I can run if I need to without ditching gear. This also is a day pack it's not meant for extended use, but it's my current get home bag for day to day stuff.

If you do nothing else, watch the film. It captures the spirit of what /x/ should be better than any other film I've seen. Seeking hidden knowledge, urbex, introspection, and the reality of uncertainty.
How much of the Zone is real and how much is psychosis? Where is the line between the unknown and the unknowable?
It's worth watching just for the visuals, though. The pacing makes it "comfy" (some would say slow).

For the purposes of this thread, the nut and gauze can represent a small object that's not in the inventory. There's a certain amount of approximation needed because of limited options. You carry gum, use a chocolate bar. You wear a crucifix, use a whistle.

>>17552282
On the point of duct tape, I'm reminded to mention that it now comes in patterns and colors. Some camouflage pattern can conceal, some bright pink or glow-in-the-dark can mark. An entire roll of duct tape is pretty chunky, but you can wrap a few yards of it around something else you're going to carry (the handle of a prybar, or a roll of quarters).

Or you could carry electrical tape instead, a roll of which is pocket-sized and which also comes in colors. It doesn't seal out water / air quite as well, and it's narrower (so less coverage), but it's tougher and electrically insulating.

You've assumed he's hunting unarmed. Maybe you should read the OP. Some of us are just out exploring the local spook hollow. A pistol wouldn't be a bad idea, sure enough. Find out exactly what you're allowed to carry, and then carry that much. Are tasers regulated? How about mace? How big a knife? What about axes / hatchets / machetes / brush-hooks? Baseball bats? Golf clubs?

What about a blank pistol (like a starter pistol for sporting events) or a flare gun?

If you can't carry anything for self-defense (English rules), get a D-cell Mag-lite. A four battery one is a suspiciously big and heavy flashlight, but no reasonable person is going to argue that it's not first and foremost a flashlight. And carrying a flashlight is simply being prudent. Not even making excuses there, a heavy duty flashlight is something that's useful in daily life, which a lot of this other stuff isn't.

Fair enough. I had read it, but apparently got caught up in the idea that we were all supposed to be hunting things and so on. Regardless, solid advice. Thank you.
>>
>>17572420
On the point of hunting, I'm not sure it's general knowledge around here, so I'm going to point out a few things. It's rare to bag something by blundering around the woods and hoping you cross paths.

For large game, you observe your surroundings to note signs of their activity (where they eat, where they drink, where they sleep, and the paths they take to get from one to the other). Then you pick a nice spot, conceal yourself downwind of it, and wait.

For small game, you conceal yourself somewhere and make some kind of calls to attract them. Or, if you have help, you can try to flush out hiding critters.

Since with cryptids we know next to nothing about them, we're stuck in the observation portion. The most reasonably strategy is to stake out a choke point in the routes to a source of water. If there's no such thing in the area, and you can't create one, then you watch the most well-worn game trail.

My theory is that most cryptids and legendary monsters are whatever thing skinwalkers are. That they're some moderately intelligent creature that can change shape at will. It would use this as both hunting camouflage (go up a tree, pretend to be a branch, catch a squirrel) and defense camouflage (people are coming, pretend to be a tree stump). Or just slither into a convenient hole. They'd probably reproduce by fission. If so, then probably their size and intelligence would be proportionate (split a slime, get two smaller, dumber slimes).

Probably there's no such thing and all of it is just human imagination. But this is the most efficient explanation otherwise. You've got shape changer legends, and if it wasn't between fixed forms then that would cover everything from El Chupacabras to huldras to dragons. And also explain why they're only around when they're trying to eat you. And weapon invulnerabilities (shooting something with no discrete organs isn't very damaging).
>>
>>17573015
Well, that was much more in depth than I had anticipated, honestly. However, when it comes to things without discernible organs, I have found that fire and acid work wonders for making trouble go away. Nice reply.
