Why are there no news worthy, interesting cults anymore? What happened to stuff like Heavens Gate, Jonestown, and the Branch Davidians?

Why is life so boring?
>>
>>17531737

you could consider muslim fundamentalists members of cults

look at isis and the taliban.
>>
>>17531745
Would rather see some new religions
>>
>>17531737
scientology and Raëlism are new.
>>
>>17531737
>>Why is life so boring?
They're being kept out of mainstream media because of sheep mentality of so many people nowadays. We'd have like half the current planetary population if you knew all about the cults that are out there.
>>
>>17531791
Scientology has been around about as long as the cults that OP mentioned though. It just lasted way longer because they don't suicide.
>>
The 12 Tribes moved into my home town a while back and got some decent media coverage. Nothing spectacular though.
>>
>>17531762
You won't see them, because they're either corner-of-the-internet bullshit or a bunch of losers roleplaying IRL.

The only even minutely interesting groups are all defunct/invisible at this point in time.

But the real question is, if you like cults so much, why not make your own? There are plenty of idiots to join you.
>>
Well why don't we start a cult, OP.

You are part of a cult already OP.
>>
>>17531737
1. They're small news

2. They're literally nothing compared to other stuff going on like ISIS

There's just bigger fish for the media to fry.

Isn't this exactly what a cult is though

Because our culture is dying

True religion is the sign of a healthy culture. It will spawn cults that will become very popular very quickly

The proliferation of ever more esoteric cults is the sign that a culture's spirit is sputtering out

Finally, the culture is seized by a politicized, hollow mass religion that satisfies no one, and degenerates into atheism

Atheism and agnosticism eventually spawn conditions that inspire madness and vigor and the cycle begins again

Hopefully something terrible and newsworthy happens to you, then.

Mfw I saw it.

The Heaven' Gate people aren't all dead! I wrote them an email and they responded in a few hours. Apparently they left a few behind to handle stuff like the inheritances and the website and so forth.
Here's their email adress: [email protected]

Raëlism has been around since the 70s
>>

>>17535255
Huh, they use "real" in there name, they must be smart and factually correct.
>>
>>17531737
Internet paranormal message boards satisfy many enough to prevent cult-seeking behavior.
>>
>>17535260
Can you actually read?
>>
>>17531737
You only know those cults because they went on the news.

Out of the three you named, only one went on the news at their own discretion. The other two went on the news because of the events that were befallen on them against their will.

Judging by this it would seem most sects will not end up on the news as long as things are going as they wish.

Church of the Last Testament should prove interesting to you.
>>
>>17533105
Interesting point of view

Would like some references etc though

Did you come up with this or read it or watch it?
>>
>>17531737
You want danger and excitement

Join Isis

Who are they gonna bomb next?

In fact join a task force to shut them down?

Hell, go vigilante and attack them from the inside. Join a mosque go to Syria

Join the revolution

Life isn't boring you're just a boring person with no drive to take control of your own happiness
>>
>>17531762
It's probably not exactly what you're looking for because it's not quite the same as what you seem to be looking for, but if you want interesting religions you can try looking Discordianism. It's interesting.

Pic related
>>
>>17535367
It was a joke. Raelism is obviously meant to make you think of realism, thus giving them some credibility. Same thing with scientology, nothing scientific about them, but it's sound more official than deadalienenergyghoststology, which would be a lot more accurate.

Don't despair about life being boring. Realize the absurd truth that life is far to stupid to be boring! No newsworthy interesting cults?! Have you seen a Trump rally? And I do think many people have mentioned ISIS at this point.

>>17535391
Eris is rather interestingly interesting. She has given us the gift of laughter in the face of oblivion, and asks only for a well crafted BLT in return. Hot dogs are so unhealthy, you know?

>>17531737
Da'esh is an apocalyptic cult like Aum Shin Rykyo or Heaven's Gate or what have you.

Why are you bored would be more pertinent. Because God. God is everything you want, yet you reject him. You find boring everything that isn't God. You are mentally sick.
>>
>>17531737
I'd love to see some new crazy and dangerous cults pop up, the ones that you've mentioned are always fun to read about.

I'm not sure that they've diminished in number though, it's more a case that cults like Heaven's Gate are always going to be very rare compared to the large number of cults that, while crazy, simply keep to themselves.
>>
in the past before the internet, social media, and cell phones, it was easier to get people isolated or severed from the rest of the wider social climate... cults need to exist in a vacuum where the outside can not come in.
you have to control the information the person receives... and any connection to the wider world breaks that.
atleast thats my theory.
sound legit? fuck...i duno.

i thought the Kek cult was gaining support

You should email the admin at [email protected] some questions or if you're really into it, PGP message him under the privacy section of his web page if u guys wanna talk about all the gay sex they did before killing themselves and wasting their lives.
>>
>>17536774

what the fuck mate?
im not ever joining a fucking cult you angst ridden cunt.
i just explained my answer on what the op was asking.
>>
>>17533116
In all fairness, the people of Jonestown were murdered by the FBI, right? Or am I confusing events?
>>
>>17536819

you might be thinking of Waco in 93
and it was the FDA not the FBI
>>
>>17536819
they mostly killed themselves and those who didn't were murdered by jim jones and staff
>>
>>17536647

Congratulations - this is the most bizarre usage of that word I've seen yet
>>
>>17536833
Bill Hicks speaks extensively about the Waco siege and actually shows a clip of one of the bradley tanks shooting a flamethrower towards the building that supposedly held the women and children IIRC, you can find the interview on yt i think it was a program called capsized or something like that. It was a call in show that was hosted by a metal head.
>>
>>17537234
>Bill Hicks

Yawn.
>>
>>17535794
Mm, but both sure are tasty. Whichever suits you the most.. I say take both. I like to enjoy life..

And so does she.

Hehehee
>>
>>17536833
FDA... you mean ATF? Otherwise maybe there is something to those big pharma conspiracies I hear about
>>
Stefan Molyneux
>>
>>17536774
That explains why the website is still up. And also explains OPs question somewhat- modern cults are more aware of mass media and internet exposure now. They are always there, you just don't hear about them as easily
>>
>>17531737

There are Trump supporters.
>>
>>17531737
You never hear about them until the shit goes flying, and a bunch of people die

There are still a shit-ton of cults.

It's just easier to suck money out of people over the internet now.

http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/10965406/hiding-plain-sight-former-san-diego-state-star-adam-muema-ditches-pro-day-nfl-combine

You get shit like this now, where cult leaders can hide behind twitter and not have to interact with the people they steal from face-to-face.
