There are split theories. I think it's safe to say that like any skill, there are people who are simply naturally better at it than others.
There are those who believe bloodlines come into play, or a natural family affinity.
I can tell you that to that credit, my family has a very small history with such things, but the only people who have ever tried anything were effective, got scared, and never did anything with it again.

I can see that you're a fairly smart and creative person, who has ambition. For your "Past" card I got the Page of Swords. You probably thought this out and had a plan to get the thing that you want.
For the "opportunity" card, I got The Moon. It could mean that there's a danger of failure or of making enemies.
For the "possible future" card I got the six of pentacles reversed. I interpret it as that you have to be really careful how much effort you put into this because it might not get paid back.
For the "overall comment" card, I got the nine of swords. It seems to be saying that you're going to be disappointed and that you're going to fail.
I chose one more card to clarify things and got The Hermit. It's telling you to be careful and that maybe somebody's working to keep you from getting that thing (which The Moon is also warning you about).
