By this I mean the car was in itself a stressful experience. Then I hear the sound of the car's wheels on the dirt road outside, I look out and theres this little slope any visitor has to come up. Come out there and it's completely silent, no car. There is no way to drive up there and then turn back in the short time that passed. The whole thing was an illusion. I suppose my favourite vampire adaptation (not so much myth) would be True Blood. There's a scene where Eric Northman has a load of humans in his basement and, when he goes down to see them, one attacks him with silver to try to escape. He grabs him, growling with a weirdly echoed voice, lifts him in the air sideways and proceeds to bite the fuck out of his side. It made vampires seem more like monsters than just people with a blood-craving.
But if you actually wanted to become a vampire, I suppose it would depend on which adaptation you were looking at. Going from glittery stone vamp, all the way to demonic beast vamp, you've got a lot to try to narrow down.
