Isn't going to catch on? We might have not been using that exact word, but we've been saying some version of it since before this site was started. Remember, 4chan began as a hangout for anime nerds, and we're well aware of a clear distinction between us and normal people. Adding new boards hasn't greatly changed the character of the site. If anything, the difference is that society has become more favorable disposed to nerdy pursuits.

Exactly. What was a clear distinction for someone who's been here since the beginning appears only shallow and newfaggy to people like me. The isolation NEETs felt is dissolving as society and 4chan adapt to coexist with each other. It's like the shoutbox of the internet.
"Catching on" is a phenomenon that acknowledges the perpetual cycle of newfaggotry that keeps this place alive. The only thing an anonymous image board can ever have is its culture. Even identity itself is actively berated, and when you use terms like "normie" you just give us a clue about yours. I like to think that /x/'s culture is one of, "Just let them expose themselves."
