What happened to all the ARGs? I remember coming on /x/ regularly between '08-'11 and there was always a thread focusing on the current popular ARG at the time.
A few I can remember were BEN DROWNED, 8-3-11, and kip021020112200. Am I missing them or is this just a dying phenomenon?
yes, hardcore bump plz
4chan prbly did some wonderful things with those
4chan has been on a decline the past few years.
Maybe it's a conspiracy, these weren't just ARGs.
Maybe so. Am I the only one who remembers those ARGs?

I never partook in them but I had friends who did and watching them whisper about shit going on in an alternate reality (the "game") was really bizarre. It was nerdy and embarrassing but also a little creepy (no offense ARG players). It reminded me of being little kids on a playground playing a "secret game" nobody else knew about. Half the fun seemed to be in replicating a type of secret society situation where they were talking about gameplay and political situations that nobody else would have understood because it was literally make believe.

Because it's literally roleplaying. It's like LARPing except people were (or are) doing it in their everyday life without dressing up or declaring gametime. It was like non-stop roleplaying.
