Do you know any actual good watchable horror movies that you know about? Seems I'm running in circles watching the same old crap.
>>
the orphanage
>>
So, what movies have you watched and like?
>>
>>17008225
I watched your mother die

No no say dry joking do bro she alive we cool we cool
>>
>>17008178
Watch the original version of that if you haven't. Way better.
>>
>>17008178
Trick 'r Treat is really fun
>>
>>17008248
She actually isn't alive, though.
Jerk!
>>
>>17008178
well you can start by discarding that one and watching the original let the right one in. also, rosemary's baby, possession (1981), the brood, the exorcist, house of the devil...
then you have films like funny games, santa sangre, holy mountain, suicide club, cold fish, noriko's dinner table, gozu... these are not horror films per se, but have horror elements and are kinda creepy and far better than most generic contemporary horror movies
>>
>>17008178
There are too many genre movies to just rattle off a list. You're going to have to be more specific about "good," "watchable," and what you've already seen/liked. I've seen almost everything twice. I monitor threads like this in hopes of gleaning ones I missed.
>>
>>17008178
Try watching "The Host"(2006), it's a Korean film, not extremely frightening, but still good.
>>
Cold Prey
The Changeling (1980)
Suspiria
The Abandonned

Blumhouse movies
>>
I liked the original Poltergeist, Insidious 1 & 2 (need to see 3), and The Canal.
>>
>>17009987
watching this rn. it's more of a drama with a monster somehow involved in it, but it's pretty good. joon ho bong is a pretty cool guy. dude's friends with park chan wook

I recently watched:
>Noroi- Loved the lore they put into it, really well done.
>Digging Up the Marrow- Found footage poking fun at found footage, turns into actual spoops. Creature design was awesome, shown just enough for emphasis without ruining the eeriness.
>Fire In the Sky- Great build of tension, the alien bits were fucking ace, ended left me feeling like I missed something
>Men Behind the Sun- Not paranormal, but seriously fucked up. Great special effects, based on true shit.

I'd also recommend:
>Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
>Medium Raw
>Lo
>Troll Hunter
>Slither

Is this any good?

I don't know if any actual supernatural shit happens in it, but I've heard good things otherwise.
>>
Fuck it, I'm reposting my suggestions from the other thread. Anyone seen them?
>Kairo (Pulse). The Japanese one. Has one terrifying moment that became that famous webm with the woman walking towards the man in a dark hallway. Also one of the most depressing, interesting apocalypses ever concieved. The concept is sligjtly dated, but it's a great movie nonetheless.
>And watch Noroi the Curse if you want an interesting (only slightly scary) movie to watch.
>>
>>17010407
It's not very supernatural, but it's still pretty awesome. for a stranger movie by the same guy try a field in england
>>
>>17010393
>Fire In the Sky
>Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

Can vouch for these. Two very different movies, but both good.
>>
Bone Tomahawk for an amazing new horror/western/ cannibal flick.

Deathgasm if you like a good dark comedy/ horror.

Wyrmwood for a decent zombie flick

Starry Eyes for psychological horror
>>
>>17010164

>The Changeling (1980)

awesome movie!
>>
>>17010439
That's really what I love about the ones I listed, everything is completely different with different subgenres or mixes of genres.

No idea. Actually, I don't think so, but it could be interpreted either way. To be honest, I just thought Mr. Babs was a plain boogeyman the whole movie.

>>17010443
Is Bone Tomahawk really good? The trailer was nice, I just don't want to be disappointed..

I don't think she really hated Sam. The Babadook, he could be basically interpreted either as her mind playing tricks on her - or an actual boogeyman/demon who FORCED her to go insane and start seeing things, from constant fear, paranoia and anxiety.
Also consider the fact that Sam was seeing him too, I mean, he was constantly scared and having panic attacks, even a seizure once, as if something was choking him. After all, he was the main target for the Babadook - mind the "Bring me the boy" line, and also the final sequence when Babs turned into a huge winged black thing and tried to beat him telekinetically against a wall and then drag into the darkness.
>>
>>17012336
have you watched "Monster", the short film from the same director?
>>
>>17010407
I watched this not knowing anything about it. I honestly thought it was going to be a "lock, stock, and two smoking barrels" type of Brit caper movie.
Oh shit... boy was i wrong. This is a great movie that integrates different genres seamlessly. Damn. Think I'll watch it again.
>>
>>17012360
but he was right.
>>
>>17012319
>great acting/ casting
>tight script

it's destined to become a cult classic for sure.

It's good but it starts a bit slowly. I didn't find it to be brick-shittingly scary but it was highly unnerving.

>>17010164
>The Changeling (1980)
The only movie that scared me in the last ten years or so. Sadly, it doesn't hold up that well when you re-watch it. It's still better than most modern ones, though.
>>
The Grudge
Dark Water
Frozen (Not the Disney movie lol)
The Tortured
Devil
Shutter (Korean version is better than american one but that's my opinion)
VHS 1,2 &3
And the first two from The Human Centipede weren't so bad.

Seriously, ALL of you have to watch this movie..

www.imdb.com/title/tt0365376/

It's one of the greatest movies ever created. It's not a "slasher" as you would expect from the cover. It's not even really a "horror", but it's definitely /x/.

Please, watch the movie. You will be amazed.
>>
>>17013083
Koren Shutter is definetly miles better than the american version, which isn't all that bad but totally worse than the original.

The reason Men Behind the Sun had such good 'effects' is that they used actual cadavers for a number of the scenes.

Here's a list of more modern "horror" themed movies I found watchable. Not really gonna include too many foreign ones because I will have to think too hard and that hurts my brain.

Let the Right One In (2009)
Orphan
The Hills Have Eyes
The Descent
[REC]
Silent Hill
The Collector
Sunshine
Session 9
House of 1000 Corpses

Triangle
The Midnight Meat Train
The House of the Devil
The Canal
Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
I Saw the Devil
The Orphanage
The Last Exorcism
Insidious
Insidious: Chapter 3 (didn't really like 2, but you may as well watch it)

What We Do in the Shadows
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
100 Bloody Acres
The Revenant
Severance
Monsters
Frontier(s)
Grave Encounters

Megan is Missing
The Signal
Below
Pontypool
>>
>>17008202
Yep, very interesting characters, unsettling mood and even a great story. I recommend the orphanage too.
As a Benchmark: I also liked these moody and/or character-based horrors:
>The Babadook
>Blair Witch Project
>Conjuring
>Paranormal activity

And for horror games
>Amnesia: The dark descent

If thats your taste, try the orphanage
>>
>>17016286
Because its not an actual monster, it literaly comes from a childrens book. Its depression, anxiety and sleep deprivation that let this fantasy become reality in a sense. Rightfully this doesnt affect the childish design though.
>>
I'll write down a few, some have been mentioned so take it as a re-rec

>Shutter
>The Blair Witch Project (besst lovecraftian movie imho)
>Kairo
>The Innkeepers
>Tetsuo: The Iron Man (not really horror but cool)
>The Borderlands
>Tokyo Gore Police/Machine Gun Girl/other Nishimura core
>Honeymoon
>Goodnight Mommy (again not horror but really, REALLY goddamn motherfucking awesome, one of my bo/2015)
>Antichrist (it's beautiful and pretentious, what's not to like)
>Evil Dead (original&remake)
>Martyrs

Bonus, a few literary recs.

>Project X (about school shootings, fairly terrifying)
>High Life/Cows (Matthew Stokoe's, pretty gruesome and "perverse", if you're not prepared)
>I Am a Hero (Manga, breddy gud)
>My Twisted World (Elliot Rodger manifesto, not memeing, rightfully creeped me out)
>Dreams of Amputation (have Tetsuo rape Williamm Gibson and then give birth, print the result)
>Abara/Blame!/Biomega (Nihei core, read it or perish)
>David Peak's The River Through the Trees (cool standard modern horror)
>Hakaiju (kaiju hyper splatter. Pretty straightforward right)
>The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All
>Everything Ligotti, esp. the double collection that just came out with Penguin Classics
>>
>>17016598

Off the top of my head

Let the right one in
The Brood
Pontypool
The Host
The House that Screamed
Dale and Tucker vs Evil (not really scary but it's some meta shit on horror)
Lake Mungo (really liked it, kind of a slow burn but creepy)
House (japanese movie, from 1977. It's a horror but not scary, it's kind of just fucking insane. Really fun to watch though.)

plenty of good dario argento movies other than the obvious (already mentioned) Suspiria,
Phenomena, Inferno, Deep red, Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Tenebre
All really good.
>>
>>17016763

His "corporeal" form is creepy. The book portrays him in a more Tim Burton-esque style, kinda goofy/cartoony but still creepy ("ugly-cute" something, if memory serves). It's a pop-up book "for kids", after all.
Sigh. Shame they only printed about 2000 copies of the book from the actual flick, I'd like to have one of those on my bookshelf.

Little Otik

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0228687/
>When a childless couple learn that they cannot have children, it causes great distress. To ease his wife's pain, the man finds a stump in the backyard and chops it and varnishes it into the shape of a child. However the woman takes the root as her baby and starts to pretend that it is real. When the root takes life they seem to have gained a child; but its appetite is much greater than that of a normal child.

I think it's a fairly good movie. A good mix of dark surrealism, sci-fi, and film noir in a galaxy far far away. There's no strict fixation on the actual ayyliums, though they still play the big role in the plot. And you won't find the usual "alien movie" stereotypes here. This film is more like an a bit outdated but very stylish predecessor of Matrix.

Bumping because movie threads are rare but faggot roleplayers are ubiquitous.

>movie threads are rare

Look who's new. We might have more RP threads than movie threads, but we still get them on a regular basis.

Starry Eyes fucking sucks.

I loved Dark City but it's only scary halfway through. Very cool movie though.

What I liked about the Strangers, is their edgy apparel. All those black trenchcoats, and heavy boots, and gloves, and tips-fedoras (also, daggers), oh my goodness. In fact, their taste in clothes, in general, was a fucking fetish fuel for me - especially those strapped bondage-style leather suits a-la Hellraiser, which just gave me a solid boner.
...In fact, until you realize they are just parasitic worms that use human corpses as hosts, you may not even think they're actually aliens - they appear more like some sort of undead. Well, they ARE undead technically. The first time I thought they are vampires - well, given their flight abilities, telekinesis and strong intolerance to sunlight.

yep, sure these guys were terrifying - especially that little (dead) child one, Mr. Sleep was his name if I recall (their names alone were quite ominous - Mr. Night, Mr. Book, Mr. Face, Mr. Shade etc.), - yet strangely appealing, in a weird creepy way, so to speak. I mean, they were super-malevolent in nature, and sinister emotionless fucks overall, but still quite dapper and gentlemanly.
I'm only puzzled by the fact that their entire race seemed to be male-only.

anybody knows of any good Lovecraftian movies?

Yes
From Beyond will blow your mind. Make sure you get the super sexy Director's Cut.
Dagon is also extremely cool and absolutely brutal at one point.

A very good film, about a guy seeking the ultimate scent. Eventually believes he requires 12 women to achieve all the "notes" of a perfume.
No shitty jump scares or pornographic gore needed.

I ordered one of the books for a friend. Since then I've been getting periodical email updates. I might take pictures when it eventually arrives and put them on here but The Babadook isn't popular around these parts.

Brilliant film, one of those its best to watch without knowing about it in advance.

''La herencia Valdemar''(2010) and ''La herencia Valdemar II: La sombra prohibida''(2010).
It's a mystery horror. Both films are great, though CGI Cthulhu looks kinda silly. Still, very interesting to watch.

nah, do it anyway m8, I'm interested.

Well it's 4chan after all. I still think it's a great movie, and rightfully got 98% positive critics.

Same. Was a good modern horror movie and had more going for it than just being dark and edgy. made it more memorable and impactful

Did anyone watch The VVitch? I liked the trailer. Looks good.

I was so disappointed in this movie.

After all of the hype I was expecting something with a unique legend and some real creep factor. Instead it's all comedic timing pluss every haunting cliche I can think of thrown at you, and a guy in some second rate VK makeup.

To top it off there's no origin, no reason this shit is happening to these particular people, no connection to the husband's death... nothing. It was kind of fun for the laughs but the more I think of it the more I realize how bad the story telling and cinematography was over all.

The monster looked like the lead singer Full, of Guniw Tools. lol Damn shame Victor Entertainment are taking all the old music videos down or I'd link the one where he has the exaggerated big boxy coat, top hat, and long pointy fingers.

>tfw I was the Babadook on this year's Halloween
huh, people were quite amazed with my costume and some even took photos with me.
Dunno how to feel about this now.

>exaggerated big boxy coat, top hat, and long pointy fingers
I already said it's quite a common depiction of your typical Boogeyman and besides, the film's creators definitely weren't going after something super-original for their monster's design.
>>
>>17032758
It was a fun movie and it makes for a good costume. *shrug*

>>17032766
Apparently they weren't going after something scary, ether.

The Woman in Black is pretty spooky.

>big boxy coat
What the babadook wears, looks more like an undertaker's jacket. Complete with the hat.
