Take it for someone who's been trying for years with results being so far and few that I question if I'd done any magic at all, what you get out of it isn't worth the time you spend on it unless you have no life outside of dedicating yourself to the study of the occult. There's basically 3 kinds of magic.
Parlor trick shit, get those at toy shops or bookstores or stuff
Hippee shit, look around town for places with names like "the crystal imporium" or "brass unicorn" or something. Stuff's like meditation or prayer, not bad, keeps you focused, helps you relax. LOTS of swindlers interested in you taking things literally though, they'll sell you water and tell you its gold
But that's the thing going into the third kind of magic - esoteric magic. This is a bit more complicated; it's culturally sensitive to boot. Look up shit on wiki and read it, but always remember you're trying to read beyond it; everything is symbolic and every story is a parable. Me? I like Egyptian magic; most things are home remedies there, but heka also involves a lot of ritualistic things that should get you thinking about the ethics of revenge or adultery or so on and keep you from destroying yourself that way.
Lastly, secretly, there's religion. Different religions are good at different things and all of them have their mystics. Rumi is a good start for Islamic mysticism, and Islam is good at Charity (don't call abrahamic ritual magic though; monotheism was trying to outcompete polytheistic magic and so disassociated itself). Anywhere outside of India is this way for Buddhism, which is itself good for pain management (but recommend theravada for your skeptic friends). There's other mysticisms, but remember that it should all be taken as parables or analogies to the actual spiritual reality.

jin is japanese for human being, and was borrowed from northern chinese a few hundred years ago, where the word is ren (pronounced run). But the northern chinese form goes back to an earlier nren, which goes back to nyin, which is the source of another japanese form of the word, nin (as in, ningen = humans). It's the same in southern Chinese languages like Cantonese (nin) or unrelated sinophile languages like vietnamese (nhin). The indigenous Japanese word is hito, which goes back to an old japanese form pito, which is why the plural of people is hitobito; h and b are a pair because p and b differ only by voice
Jinn is pronounced differently (Arabic js are like English, but Japanese js are flatter, more against the hard plate, softer sounding because like the y, or ee sounds, it almost makes you smile), and the second n means something. A beautiful thing about Arabic, Hebrew, Egyptian and their relatives is the way they make words out of other words, and semitic languages are famous for their triliteral roots. So like Arabic S-L-M makes iSLaM, muSLiM, SaLaaM, and the hebrew cognate makes SHaLoM. J-N-N makes JiNN, but also JaNN (hide), maJNuN (insane), JaNNah (garden), and JaNiN (embryo). also, OP, I recommend you study magick by searching for a few grimoires. Once you do that, scope out demonolatry, see if the spirits commune with you. Maybe you're more of an elemental, or more of a pyschic type.
Magick is not any specific form but rather a method which multiple expressions exercise.
