my current holy grail of creepy animation is Homo Augens by A. Zaninovic (also one of the Zagreb school). Only saw it a few times on PBS an eon ago.

I recall many years ago watching a video, IIRC it was stop motion animation, of a gladiator or something fighting his way through a castle or temple or something, to get to a throne room at the very end of it.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? The ending was pretty good, but I don't want to spoil it in case it does get linked.

MOST of the old Soviet and Russian cartoons (especially ones with puppetry and stop motion effects). There are things worse than any nightmare.
