If you've ever seen the anime "texhnolyze" or something like that, everyone gets enslaved and turned into robots that root themselves into the ground in order to stand around for "a very long passage of time" or some shit. It looks fucking boring as fuck and a bunch of them went insane.

Every parent of a child on the planet suddenly bereaved. The wave of grief is unbearable to many and suicides soar. Toy shops empty and eventually closed because no-one can stand what they represent. Department stores clear out their children's sections. All traces of children are erased from society as the mass grief and realisation of what it implies takes hold.
And over the next 30 years, society declines. No new workers replace the old as they die, so production declines. Economies go into recession and pension funds collapse. With no means of support, retirement means death for many. Suicide is the obvious choice as what is left of government forces mandatory extermination for the retired. Eventually infrastructure collapses as the number of able workers reaches a critical level. Food production and transport, power generation, medical facilities and medication run out. Those who have survived this far are now in their 50's and 60's. Still young enough to hunt and kill. Scavenging has used up all stores and reserves. The only food left is each other.
But at the end, a handful of the stubborn remain scattered across the planet, alone, diseased, infirm, demented, and one by one they turn their guns on themselves.
It has only been a few decades since the last child died, and the human race just fades out, ending with not even a sound, just the silence of utter despair and desolation.

I got tired of thinking about it so much, but I used to think a lot about the most likely scenario, because that's the most frightening: the fact that it is the most likely and could easily happen.
The most likely scenario is either a "terrorist attack" or solar flare dropping the electrical grid, taking the internet down along with it, satellites lose communication and there's no way to call anyone or communicate with other humans except face to face. All major roads become locked down as people attempt to flee innawoods or at least escape their major cities because looting and rioting and eventually murders are taking place without any authorities capable to stop it without the technology they depend on to coordinate.
Runs on food supplies and stores ensure that the majority of people will be starving and everyone knows this, further escalating the panic. Standoffs between landowners and the wealthy escalate into a full civil war. At this point everything from random bombing to stray bullets are killing innocents and the push to escape innawoods continues.
The in the wilderness people are gathering at bodies of water to escape dying of thirst and attempting (unsuccessfully) to hunt enough wild game to feed their families. Those who are barely scraping by become targets for those who have nothing. Those who are managing to survive have to band together and form tribes who have no choice but to war against the zombie hordes of doomed people who want to kill them and take what they have.
People lose family members, their children, and by extension all hope or faith in humanity and this ensures that the number of ruthless people skyrockets. You can no longer safely coordinate with other people and any tribes that formed fall apart.

I saw a video on /f/ and subsequently had a dream a few weeks ago that freaked me right the fuck out, I think its probably my top tier apocalypse. Basically, some unknowable elder-god-tier bullshit happens to the sky, and looking up at it, unobstructed by cloud cover or whatever, causes people to go violently insane and develop the single-minded ideal of forcing other people to look up. Life either ends quickly or becomes a super easy to fuck up and die in zombie-like apocalyptic hellscape.
So you either don't ever dare look up and kill anyone that sounds like they might try to make you look up, or you move underground and still probably die.
