What do you mean by control a tulpa? It's a creation of your own mind, you have complete control over it either way. It's all in your head.
A tulpa is basically an imaginary friend for adults, and having a real tulpa pretty much requires you to force yourself to acquire a mental illness.
I really don't see the appeal of those when you already have porn to masturbate to, anons and real people to talk to, and pets to keep you company.
The idea of a tulpa in itself scares me. I don't even want to know more about it.

Well, the idea is a 24/7 companion that is easy to take care of, has similar interests to yours, and is generally fun to be around.
Then you get into being able to do some neat things, like pain numbing, messing with your perceptions of things, all on command and within your control. I haven't had a damn headache in over a year. Any time one starts to brew up my tulpa takes care of it. Same goes for most aches and pains. If I sleep funny and wake up with a crick in my neck, my tulpa can ease the pain away and give my freedom of movement back. It's a wonderful thing, really.
All I can think of when I hear about tulpas is Master Chief and Cortana.

Well this is wrong. A mental illness has to be ailing in some way, anything simply not considered socially acceptable does not fit into this criteria. Plus you're basically training your mind the entire time, tulpa can be used to help deal with mental illnesses like anxiety.
