Magical herbs general?
Hey all, I've been following a witchy path for about a year now, and I'm super interested in the use of plants and herbs for magic/medicine. Any contribution of any kind will be great, I'll post sources and things I've learned.
I really like the history of healing women and some day I want to have my own little apothocary, but if anyone knows about poisonous plants that would be great as well, I mostly want to learn about the magical aspect of herbs.

It also has lots of reliable information about every kind of drug imaginable and has a library of free books.

If you want to get spooked, read the DMT, Salvia or Datura experience vaults. Weird stuff.

>Chamomile
Latin Name: Anthemis nobilis

Planetary Ruler: The Sun

Element: Water

Magical Properties:

Chamomile is scared to the Celtic Deities: Midhir, Aengus Og, Lugh, and Aine. When working with the plant, Midhir was called on for prosperity, Aengus Og for love, Lugh for sleep, and Aine for purification and protection. It is also used in spells for good fortune, love, peaceful sleep, and purification. It is often used in sleep and meditation incense.

Medicinal Properties:

It is used for anti-inflammatory for the skin, an anti-infective for colds, and anti-spasmodic for problems with the stomach and indigestion.

It is can be brewed into a tea or taken in capsule form to relieve menstrual pain, stomach and intestinal ailments (cramps, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, indigestion, diarrhea). It is used to treat colds, fevers, nasal congestion, headaches, sleep problems, anxiety, and stress. It can also be used to treat children with colic and the pain of teething.

The flowers can be made into a paste or ointment that can then be used to treat burns, ulcers, rashes, and infections. To make this ointment, combine the ground flowers with warm water and oatmeal to reach the desired consistency then apply to the problem area. The flowers can also be placed in cheese cloth and put into a hot bath to relieve pain caused by hemorrhoids and cystitis.

Chamomile essential oil can be used to help eczema and neuralgia.

You can also inhale the steam from chamomile tea to help with asthma, hay fever, and sinusitis.

Does anyone know anything about the meanings/properties of speedwell? It's a little blue wild flower of the genus veronica. I keep dreaming about it and I've been noticing it everywhere I go. It make me kinda happy to see it, and I've been wondering if there's anything special about it. Google didn't help much.

"---Medicinal Action and Uses---
Old writers of all countries speak highly of the virtues of the Speedwell as a vulnerary, a purifier of the blood, and a remedy in various skin diseases, its outward application being considered efficacious for the itch. It was also believed to cure smallpox and measles, and to be a panacea for many ills. Gerard recommends it for cancer, 'given in good broth of a hen,' and advocates the use of the root as a specific against pestilential fevers.

It is not to be confused with Germander (Teucrium chamaedrys), the celebrated specific for gout, used by the Emperor Charles V.

"The Germander Speedwell has a certain amount of astringency, and an infusion of its leaves was at one time famous for coughs, the juice of the fresh plant also, boiled into a syrup with honey, was used for asthma and catarrh, and a decoction of the whole plant was employed to stimulate the kidneys."

I'll keep looking
>>
>>17739471
" It is employed in herbal preparations as anti inflammatory, tonic, expectorant and diaphoretic. Speedwell has also diuretic, depurative, liver protective and tonic properties. It is astringent (it contains tannins) and bitter. Many herbalists use it to relieve various types of allergies.

Externally it can be used in ointments to treat skin inflammations, wounds and eczema.
It used to be consumed as a tonic and relaxing tea in England."

>Folklore: The herb was sewn into the garments as a protective charm,
although there is an isolated folk belief that if the herb is brought
into a family the mother will die within a year.
>>
>>17739471
"The name speedwell comes from an old meaning of the word speed, "thrive." The scientific term Veronica goes back some 500 years and is apparently connected with the name of the legendary Veronica, who is said to have wiped the face of Jesus as He went to Calvary. It is possible that the genus Veronica was named after her because the flowers supposedly resemble the markings left on the cloth with which she wiped Jesus’ face."
