You should get it if you like video games at all. I've made quite a few friends from it.
You could also play any sort of MMO, those are really nice to make friends with too.
Otherwise I recommend joining some kind of forum. You could talk around on MyAnimeList if you don't mind the weebs. Another decent anime forum is Nihonomaru.
I haven't had any luck with people from 4chan though. Most of them end up being either furfags or psychotic.

Yeah, that's difficult. Nervousness is irrational so there isn't much you can do about it other than talk with yourself and tell logically yourself how unlikely the things you're worried about will happen.
Take a break, get a glass of water, and go for a walk if you're able and come back to this if you're up for it. Nervousness and anxiety suck, but you get less nervous if you build up your confidence if you do the things you're worried about or have something productive to put your stress into.
Hope you find a good friend eventually. Doesn't have to be today, but you seem like a decent person so I'm sure you'll connect with someone eventually.
